Manchester 7th Apollo Gig

headbang

WoW what a night!!

Show started about 8:15ish and funcked through to about 10:45pm.We were up in the circle overlooking the stage. Can i just say that the Apollo is a superb venue, the sound was excellent and am sure everyone had a good view.
Prince was feeding off the vibes from a very pleasing crowd. It seemed he had everyone in the palm of his hand.He was clearly enjoying the warm reception he got.

This was my first Prince concert and i was abosultly in awe.Let me say that it was pure class, his raw and spontaneous guitar work was mind blowing, right through to his vocals, running up and down a superhuman scale like a man possesed!A mixture of a few of the old and heaps of the new proved a huge success with Prince opening with The Rainbow Children,a true jazz/funk fest giving way to a show packed with energy and style. The NPG were seriously tight,Blackwell,Rhonda,Renato and co were all on sonic form. They really sound hot as a collective. My fave songs that night would have to be The Rainbow Children,Family Name and a couple of the ones where Prince just sat alone at the keys and played with ease, inc Sometimes it Snows in April and Starfish and Coffee. The sheer quality of the music made every song a success, the performance could be called flawless! His voice was incredible and the whole sound aspect of the show was very well suited to the acoustics of the Apollo.

After the final encore and the guitar screetches of Purple Rain ringing through my ears(!)we left the theatre overhearing ten's of comments all giving Prince the credit he so rightly deserves.

Going to see him live was just awesome,a world class act,he's a true enigma.I feel myself among a very privilaged few.

My only whine was the concert programme. At £15 i thought it may have been a bit better and more detailed. £7 tops would have been more acceptable for what i got, anyhows its a keepsake from the show so nevermind!

I had heard they were £20 beforehand, but yeah they weren't much for £15, but you gotta get one, right!

I saw Kylie earlier this year at Sheffield Arena, programs were £20, which was a bit dear, I mean I saw her at the Manchester Apollo the year before and they were £7.

Goes to show what a resurrected chart career can cost a fan!
