My MuM

When I was about 8 years old I fell in love with Prince, It was like my first ever crush and everyone thought I was mental... My Mum used to say to me that she just couldn't see what I saw in him he was a skinny wee wimp that dressed like a woman! She told me that I'd come to my sences one day?.....
Well here I am 34 and I still havn,t came to my sences I think Prince is Beautiful and I still love him!
And I think he's growing on my Mum now too..Ha

I 1st went to see Prince on the Parade tour in 1986. My mum was a bit of a 'rock chick' and I didn't think she would be that interested, I remember her going to concerts when I was young and she also went to the Pink Floyd Wall Concert in Berlin. I should point out here that I lived with my dad after they split up in '82.

Anyway, such was the performance that I went on and on about it. In '88 I had tickets to see the 1st night of the Lovesexy 88 tour and it completely blew me away, so much so I had to drag mum along. I got on the phone the next day phoning any ticket agency I could to get tickets for another night. I booked 2, 1 for me and 1 for mum!!! Mum LOVED it, and I mean loved it, she named her cat cat (original) she started to virtually replicate my record collection and was filling cd/video shelves with Prince stuff. Year after year passed, Mum came with me to the Lovesexy tour, Nude Tour, Diamonds & pearls tour, Ultimate Live Experience tour and had tickets for the doomed Blenheim Palace 'Extravaganza'. I'm sure we all know what it's like to be 'the only Prince Fan in the area' so having mum accompanying me to every show was fantastic.

In all honesty I've never been the biggest fan of 'Purple Rain' but always loved it Live, so much so that when I first saw it Live with my mum I was quite emotional as it took on a whole new meaning (Mum went through a lot of heartache when the family split up).

Mum passed away very unexpectedly in '03 and so when I went to the opening show at the 02 this was to be the first show without mum and I wasn't exactly looking forward to hearing Purple Rain for this reason. When Prince opened with it I was still pumped with the excitement of the show opening that I (only) just managed to hold everything together. Mum would have (and probably did) LOVED the 02 show and Aftershow, we always promised ourselves we'd get to 1 aftershow eventually.

Anyway, that's it really, dunno why I just typed all this and shared it with you but glad i did. So, on the last night at the o2 there won't just be me and every other lucky ticket holder filling the arena, mum will be there too, in fact I imagine she's seen all 21 nights!!
