Has anyone become a parent within 24 hrs of attending a Prince concert?

At 20:25 on August 18th, as i was waiting for Prince to come on stage (albeit an hour later), i received a text message from my wife in Berlin to say she'd gone into labour. I've not attended many Prince concerts before and was willing to sacrifice not going to any of the 21 London concerts, even though it was relatively close to home, as i didn't want to appear selfish by attending at such a crucial time. Anyway as soon as the NPG music club email came through my wife bought me a ticket and told me i was going to a concert two weeks before the baby was due.

As luck would have it my wife started showing signs of going into labour when Prince was due to take to the stage. That really plays with your emotions. Should i try to get a flight home or stay and try to enjoy the concert knowing i'm about to become a Dad?

Despite being in labour for the first time and in a country we didn't know (we only moved to Germany in April), my wife changed my flight from late Sunday evening to early Sunday morning on the 19th and took herself to hospital.

After witnessing a good concert (not the best due to it being so short, and alos having an eye on the phone for developments at home), i spent the rest of the evening texting my wife to ensure she got to hospital and was ok. By 11am on Sunday i was in Berlin and by 4.30pm, less than 24 hours since attending the Prince concert i became a Dad. What a weekend! We resisted the temptation to name him Prince, or even Maceo, and will remember that weekend forever.

Has anyone else gone through something similar?

First of all, congratulations!

I'm not exactly in the same boat, but I am four and a half months pregnant, so my bump will have been to seven concerts before it's born!

I'm hoping that it will "pound on the two and four" by the 21st!

That's intense!

When my missus went into labour I was playing an online Pro Evolution Soccer tournament. I couldn't even finish the half of the match I was in, so I know I wouldn't have been able to wait through an entire concert, even if it was Prince. lol

Fair play to you though and congratulations. Maybe Prince got wind of your situation and kept it short to help you out? wink
RIP sad

Congratulations! I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter during the Diamonds & Pearls Tour - she's 15 in 2 weeks. I took her to see P on 28/8 and she loved it. I feel like my life has come full circle. Having been a fan since day one 1979 - to have the opportunity to take my child to see someone I believe is the greatest showman on the planet - cannot be beaten. I'm gonna start a new thread about taking your kids to see him!

have not gone through something like that, but whem my daughter was born (in hospital) the first thing i did coming home after a long, long, very long night in the hospital was putting 'The most beautiful girl in the world' in the cd player. Still don't know if it was for my new daughter or my wife.....

I suggested Prince, Maceo or Renato but we ended up agreeing on Frederick. Not very princey but he'll certainly be told about how Daddy nearly missed his birth!

He's already listened to For You and Prince and didn't cry so i'm taking that as a good sign. I'm planning on taking him through each album in order and then repeating the process over and over until he can tell me his favourite song/album.

Thanks for all the messages (so far).

Many congratulations! We should all chip in a buy him an electric guitar for his 1st birthday biggrin

I certainly haven't become a parent following a Prince concert. However, my ex-girlfriend got pregnant during a concert on The Nude tour in 1990, which was nice. Sadly, I was at the concert and she wasn't.....bitch. confused

razz razz
Maybe you mean Billy Jack Bitch!
My friend was trying to persuade me to a Prince concert in 1997 when I was 8 months pregnant, but my husband and my midwife were adamantly aginst it, so we let that one slip by (i'm sure it was a good one, too!) Oh well, we ended up going to 2 Musicology shows in 2 different arenas and made up for all the lost fun. (left the kids with dad...girls night out!)

Thats a lovely name , you could always add prince or a symbol as a middle name !! My little boys Nate courtsey of SOTT only recently told the other half my reason for the choice but nate does mean gift from god ...( prince is a god in my eyes ) Good luck to you and your family !!!

Congratulations! And I have a similar story, though not so dramatic!

On the 14th August I had my birthday (yay!) and splashed out on six tickets for friends and family. My cousin (who's more like my brother) has been tending to his wife for weeks expecting their first child and a gorgeous baby boy (a future stand up comedian, I swear) was born to them Sunday Aug 12th.

So he and his wife go to her home to rest and be taken care of by her huge family. But I give him the guilt trip and convince him to join us on my birthday. He has NO IDEA we are going to see prince.

So 48 hours AFTER he just became a father, I take him to an amazing gig and a truly mind-blowing aftershow. We stayed up all morning, danced home and the next day he put up a picture of the little one on facebook wearing the symbol necklace he bought as a souvenir. And he says Empty Room is now his favourite song in the whole world.
Scrub the dishes!!
