Why are people sooooo ignorant?!! When I tell them I've been to see Prince, they ALL (without exception) make some sarky, yet common comment! And some of these people reckon they know good music and a very eclectic 'record' collection.

What's the matter with them? I've held my tongue for ages, but today I let it rip . . . . . they rapidly backed out of my office

Some people do not have a clue about music,One of my mates does not even know 1999 was sung by Prince!

My step mother thinks "he's OK" but the aftershows sound boring. This is a woman who has been to see Katie Melua live twice *sniggers*

No-one else has commented negatively, although I did get teased in 2002 when I saw One Nite Alone. Everyone at work thought Prince was a weirdo has-been and kept doing stupid impressions of him when I'd walk past their doors. I bet they're all dying to see him now.

its tough, guess thats why we come on here(as well as for tkt and concert updates and reviews) but to chat to people who we know like him as much as us

Yep I get comments too, the normal one for me is "he'll only come up to your waist" (I'm 6"1) like it really matters, like I'm gonna get that close to him, its always said in a way that I'm gonna end up in bed with the bloke! I don't think height matters when you're lying down anyway!

Forgot to say also whats his height got to do with his music ability, this world is barking mad sometimes woof woof

all my friends like my age think im gay because obviously Prince is gay. It just really fucks me off they make that assumption about Prince when they havent even heard one Prince song!

One of my friends said "I wouldn't even be able to name a Prince song". Someone else said that he wasn't a proper guitar player.

I get the negative comments about Prince all the time. Everyone always says 'I heard his latest album is crap' or comments along those lines and I just want them to realise that if that is their opinion then how about giving the other 30 odd albums a try! It makes me sooooo annoyed, but then when i think about it it's quite nice that the whole world and his dog doesn't know every prince song...it makes prince and prince fans that little bit unique!

Oh - another good one is that he's had to "resort" to giving his album away for free.

It's true people are ignorant, but I believe people are easily split into two categories when it comes to music. Those who listen to music, and those who love music.

Most people only hear music, and can generally be told what to like. I bet those same people in '84 would have owned Purple Rain, not loved it but raved incessantly about it 'cos that's what everyone else was into. Today they would probably own a James Blunt album, it's sad really.

Another problem for people with Prince is his image. Most people think he's a bit wierd. He said something which addressed that criticism in an interview with Chris Rock around the time of Emancipation. He spoke of people thinking he was wierd, but then all the revelations about Michael Jackson were being made then, and the tables had turned.

For us, we know he's about music, and that's where he remains peerless. We can give ourselves a pat on the back for being so musically savvy to enjoy one of the best musicians, living or dead.

Everyone else can drown in their own mediocrity!

I've met people like that ALL my life and I think you can't fight people like that.

They have stuck Prince in a box and labelled him.

I spoke to a guy today who asked me if Prince was English.

Some people don't always know what they are talking about, they just pretend too.

Mind you, I myself over the years have been proved wrong.

I've said 'That's shit' and then lived to regret it when I realise, embarrasingly, that I was completely wrong...

Anyway, if anyone needs any support in giving BIG LOVE to our Purple Hero...
