Squirrels Quick review of Main and Aftershow on the 9th Sept (With full set lists) The night can be summed up in one word: Wow!
The main show was solid, with some great additions. The opening (without the Hall of Fame crap) was great, and I was really glad to hear The Best Of You. The piano section was particularly good as only one track (Diamonds & Pearls) was shortened. The song of the show for me was hearing a great playful full length “Adore”. The encores were slightly disappointing, but, as I was heading to the aftershow, that seems to take the pressure off a bit! The only real negative was the crowd. They were the most subdued I have witnessed so far. There were quite a few people sitting in the gold circle seats in 111 and 110 who stayed sitting down the whole show! I’m wondering whether this had any influence on Prince finishing by 10.39? But thanks to those dull people…..Prince had a lot of excess energy he needed to burn somewhere…… And boy did he burn! 12.30 on the nose, Prince takes to the Indigo stage. At 3am he had blown the roof off the dome! I been to some 30 or 40 aftershows in my time, but this has be up there as one of, if not THE best I have been too. It wasn’t so much the set list, or the 2.5 hour show, but it was simply the energy level from the crowd and Prince! The place was simply oozing funk! When 1999 started up, I though, here we go, the man is in the mood, and boy was he. He looked like he had something to prove. Shelby was smoking too. Prince simply didn’t want to stop playing! I started off standing on the slight raised platform area half way back, but had to hit the dance floor by the time All The Critics Love U in London. Great to here the song in full. I moved all the way back for the encores and I was surprised how good the view was even at the bar. Other highlights for me were the great renditions of Joy In Repetition, Alphabet St and the song of the night, Chelsea Rodgers! Prince, put it in the main show, it had everyone bouncing!!!!! I got to meet 02Review and TraceyTracey too, which was great. It was quite surreal being at the show while 02Review used his blackberry to give the orgers a live update! Tracey and I went onto the aftershow, where the girl has tasked me with finding here a spare ticket for the 21st! Help! My big dilemma now is….shall I break my self imposed ban on more gigs? After last night, I’m simply too afraid to miss another aftershow! It was that good! I did the main shows on 1st,3rd, 7th, 11th, 14th,17th, 18th, 31st, and the 9th. I was going to hold out until the 21st…….but ….more dates….it would be rude not too wouldn’t it? Main Show set list (pretty sure its correct) We Will Rock You Let's Go Crazy Baby I'm A Star Proud Mary All Along The Watchtower / The Best Of You Take Me With U Guitar Shhh Musicology Prince And The Band Play That Funky Music Sexy Dancer / Le Freak What A Wonderful World / Your Song (Renato piano solo) Somewhere Here On Earth Diamonds And Pearls (edit) Adore Strange Relationship Sometimes It Snows In April 7 Come Together If I Was Your Girlfriend Black Sweat Kiss Purple Rain Encore Sampler: Irresistible Bitch/SOTT/Rasp Beret/Doves/I Wanna Be Your Lover/Alph St/D.M.S.R/Erotic City/Nasty Girl/Soft And Wet/Lady Cab Driver/She’s Always In My Hair I Feel For You Controversy Aftershow set list (Best I could remember, I'm sure its wrong, and not in the right order) Jazz Improv/ The World Is A Ghetto Footprints Cherish the Day (Shelby) 1999 All The Critics Love U in New York/London Sexy Dancer/Le Freak I Never Loved a Man (Shelby) Love Changes (Shelby) Tell Me Something Good (Marva) Sweet Thing (Marva) Chelsea Rodgers Alphabet St Yakety Sax Crazy I Can get You Out Of My Head What it Hip Joy In Repetition Peach/Rock Me Baby I Wanna Take U Higher Question of U (Intro) The One Fallin (Marva) Question of U (Outro) Girls & Boys 3121 I Feel 4 U Controversy [Edited 9/10/07 9:22am] .

It was a great show - one of the best I've seen (that was gig number 5 out of 6 for me). The atmosphere was great where I was and there was a real party atmosphere. The piano set was fantastic, and the sample set worked for the first time (rather than just annoying everyone with snippets). The definite highlight was 'Adore' but I loved 'Seven' and 'Baby I'm a Star' too. And I've discovered 'Shhh!' on this tour too, a real treat. The pace of the show was just right. Top night.
I got floor tickets yesterday afternoon so I didn't even know I was going until yesterday. Thanks to the orgers for tipping me off about the tickets on TM yesterday.

Also there was a girl next to me who stood up all the time but i couldnt work out if she was a trainee statue or whether she had just died on the spot. i couldnt even get a smile out of her all show unreal. 2. Good to meet you too Good luck with the ticket hunt for tracey hehe. I had two spare tickets at the back of the stage but have let aymiderham have them at face value so those have gone. 3. see you wednesday night then lol and i cant imagine that you are going to let the 20th main and aftershow pass you by. the guitar is the best instrument in the world!

which reminds me that whoever wrote the set list for the 28th forgot irresistable B at the end of SOTT If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Didn't Prince also get a chant of the Miss You refrain going at one point? Can't remember where though.
And I thought at one point in 3121 the horns played the BLue Peter theme tune. Though I could have been hallucinating. The speeded up 3121 sounded great. And Shelby did a little rap in the Crazy/Can't Get U Out of My Head medley that sounded like it was from a contempory r'n'b tune, but I didn't recognise it. And after Peach was that guitar jam with the speech about choosing a single and not "selling music, I make it" thing with insane rhythmn guitar. It's crazy, he put more energy and effort into an aftershow attended by 2,000 tops, than the main show attended by 20,000!! U gotta love that.
