London Underground Strikes

Not sure how much this will impact things, but 2 strikes have been announced for 3rd September and 10th September. Both are 72 hours long..

(Updated with correction of dates after update on BBC site below as mentioned below)

If I were going on those dates I'd buy VIP tix for the Thames Clipper, at least you're guaranteed to get there and back then!

No need to buy VIP anything as you can just roll up to either of the two piers at Waterloo and London Bridge - getting one back too is a nice experience in itself to round off a great evening

Yeah, I wouldn't normally buy VIP but if the tubes are on strike I suspect many more people will try to use the Clipper service and it could take ages to get to the O2 and back again. At least VIP gets you to the front of the queue!

Yes, but you still have to queue and like I said, if there are tube strikes you can bet that the Clipper service will be very busy on those dates. I used the Clipper on Saturday 11th and it was really busy. It's a great way to travel, though. smile

If the unions don't work it out and the strikes go ahead, it's dead easy to get to the O2 by bus. If you go to Charing Cross, Waterloo East or London Bridge and get the overground train to either Blackheath or Charlton then there are buses outside that go straight there. It only takes 5 minutes from Charlton station.

Can I point out that it is in fact the 3rd and 10th NOT 6th according to the BBC link.

Which means only the 12th will be affected if they go ahead.

I would hate to stick up for tube drivers - but if you read carefully - it's actually the MAINTENANCE STAFF that are striking - NOT the drivers - so hold onto your hats people - surely this may just mean SOME small disruption - not NO trains - it's just the maintanence guys after all... we should wait and see...

Well London was hell yesterday because of this, but luckily the Jubilee line was 1 of 3 lines working. If this continues to the 2nd strike next week then get there well early and you should be fine coming back on the Jubilee line. I got a bus at 9pm last night from the Royal Albert Hall and it took 2 hours to get to Kings Cross, but when I jumped on the Piccadilly line at 11pm (1 of the 3 working/semi-working) it wasn't too bad.

the northern line and more importantly the jubilee line are maintained by a seperate company, so you should still be able to get a tube to the o2 as normal on thursday. those lines may be busier than normal due to the other lines being down, so leave with extra time and you should be fine. the strike ends at 6pm on thursday, but as it's maintenance it's not really going to help things

so if you travel from kings cross to the o2 you can get the northern line to london brige and then the jubilee line to north greenwich - normally about 40 mins, but leave an hour or so to get there

they are 72 hour strikes starting 6pm on 3rd september, which means it ends 6pm on 6th september

the next planned strike runs from 6pm on 10th september to 6pm on 13th september, so it affects the service for the 6th, 12th and 13th september

Yep apparantly this has caused a lot of probs. this strike looks defo, hopefully they can do something about the one for the 10th.

else we may need to get our heads together and work out other routes etc
