What exactly is the connection between the promoter and the artist? What does the promoter do and why are they needed?

MY GOD! - I AM NOT THE ONLY AUSSIE WHO LIKES PRINCE!
I never realised there were so many Aussies who were signed up to prince.org. This news is just eating me up inside. I've been planing all year to go to Minneapolis next year to see Prince, and now I hear that he's coming to our backyard!. I'm still not convinced though, the pesimistic side of me is telling me this is just a rumour, and that nothing will eventuate. Let's hope I'm wrong. If he does come, I plan to see every show: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane (my home town), Adelaide - I don't care - I'll make sure I get my memberships worth!

Has anyone heard anything more on Australia? I recently left Norway for a year of fun "Down Under". Yeah, right! The first thing I saw when I checked my email from Sydney was the email from npgmc saying Prince was playing in Norway! And Sweden! and Denmark!And here I was! IN AUSTRALIA! I almost cried... All the concerts I could've gone to...

So I am desperate for a chance to "make up" for it... Please, someone! Give me good news!!!

We still havn't heard a god damn thing unfortunately.

If we dont hear within the next week or so we may be out of luck.

AFAIK the promoter books the venues, and probably promotes it (as the name suggests) by advertising for it. I think the artist is paid a certain amount for the tour by the promoter and the promoter makes his profit by getting a part of the ticket sales.

The more rumours eye hear, the more eye get sick of hearing them and waiting.
If Prince is coming in early Dec, there has 2 be something announced by the end of this week or at least Monday or else he will not be coming here then.
Ive never heard of, or seen a tour been announced less then 1 month b4 it is supposed 2 start so if nothing is confirmed by the end of the week or on monday we should start hoping that he plans a tour in Jan, but personally eye cant c that happening since he will allready b half down under next month in Japan.

Eye rung visa preferred seating and asked them where they got the rumour from and they told me that they usually get it from either a promoter or a Prince website.

Eye still keep thinking of the Nov issue of NPGMC 2001 where he put Live 4 Love live in Australia as an extra track, that 4 me is what started my heart pumping and hoping that he didnt 4get us and will come again soon.

And don't forget, both Rhonda Smith and Takumi said at the celebration that they were planning a tour of Australia in December.

I totally agree with you f2002. We should be hearing something soon. I mean, Prince isn't one to continue working on the same things for very long, is he? If he doesn't come to Oz after Japan, I seriously doubt that he's gonna find the motivation to pick up the tour for an extra couple of shows in January. If he doesn't come in December he'll probably go back to Minneapolis and start working on some new material...

And not even Prince will confirm a show only days before he arrives. I mean, he must give "the others" time to realise he's coming and to buy the tickets. Not all the aussies are checking npgmc everyday... lol..

I say fingers crossed that we hear something within a few days. Hopefully that he has scheduled the grand finale in Australia before Christmas...

eye have a little story 2 tell which eye hope means something 2 all of this.
about 3 months ago eye had a dream that me and my brother were at a prince concert here in sydney, eye woke up very excited but of course after a few seconds realised it was a dream.
the next day eye got on this website and heard the 1st rumour of a prince tour in australia, eye spun out and couldnt believe it.

last night eye again had another exciting dream.
eye dreamt that my mother told me that prince is coming 2 australia, eye said what r u talkin about mum where would u hear that? she says she heard it on the radio. so straight away eye got on2 NPGMC and there they were, the australian tour dates 4 a tour in february 2003. cant remember exact dates but eye remember it being a pretty long tour, just as long as the 92 tour. a couple in brisbane, there was some in melbourne and about 5 in sydney, eye also remember another city being in it but couldnt tell u witch 1 it was.
the last thing eye remember doing in this dream is ringing my brother with heaps of excitement and getting on this very website writing a front homepage story on it 4 all u people who r dying 2 hear this good news.
do u know how annoyed eye was when eye woke up? damn!!!

if this dream comes even close 2 being a reality, like the other 1 did, im sure we will all be very happy people in february.

Well, I have some good news.

Todays Herald Sun states that Prince will be performing in melbourne next month. It says he will be performing at The Metro.

That's a small venue. At a guess I'd say 1000 to 1500 people with no seating.

Update:

On Monday i rang The Metro and was told that Prince is NOT booked to play there. They had been flooded with enquiries but the newspaper had made an error.

I rang Jacobsen on Monday and the woman who answered the phone told me to ring back in a couple of days when the director returned from o/seas. There's definately something going on.
