Is it just me or is anyone else looking forward to the show on the 21st with a tinge of sadness? This could, and I suspect will, signal the last time Prince plays live in the uk - certainly a show of the scale we r used to. I can't wait for the show for all the reasons we know but there is a sense of finality about the show aswell. Thanks to a couple of org members (you know who you are and I'm eternally grateful) I'm lucky enough to be going to both the show and the aftershow and after 20+ years of following Prince both on record and Live I have a chance of getting closer than I've ever been and it almost seems apt that this will happen at (potentially) the last show he will play here. Going to a Prince Concert has always got me 'high' for weeks in advance and has usually resulted in hitting a 'low' for a while after but with this show there's an element of being 'low' beforehand mixed with an amazing high. I was wondering.....Is it just me ????

I have to say that it has been totally different experience for me. I went on the 31th of august and 1st of september (and saw the amazing aftershow as well) and I still haven't come down from that high. I've been grinning like an idiot ever since and can't stop talking about him. After 18 years of being a fan I finally saw him Live and he was better than I could have ever imagined and no concert recording could ever have prepared me for it. I just cannot be unhappy although I know I won't be seeing him for a while (because I live in Finland and he isn't about to come to Helsinki any time soon).

But I do have to ask, why do you think that Prince will never come to the UK again? From the way the man plays and performs, feels to me that what we have seen isn't even close to being over. His fame keeps going up and down and he still manages to come up and fill a 20 000 capacity arena with 21 concerts.

I agree, I like a nice mix. I remember wathching the Gold experience tour where it was touted as "the new album by Prince (symbol..whatever)". It was great to hear Endorphinmachine, Gold etc... new for the first time but it was hard to get the crowd going and singing along without the classics!

Your not the only one. A nice combination of new songs and hits would be ideal, but I couldn't imagine him never singing Purple Rain or Kiss again. Alot of people will discover him in years to come and dip into his back catelogue and discover the classics for the first time (like me a few years back). It would be a shame for them not to hear the hits, if you get what I am saying.

I don't understand how so many people hated Musicology and 3121 and haven't warmed to Planet Earth - but still complain about the hits and want new songs. Some people are never happy.

I really don't believe that someone like Prince can live without playing live. Scaled down, ok maybe, but not forgo it altogether. Music's his life, i don't think he could live not sharing it, partying (and getting the adulation too!) All credit to the man for wanting to take time out to study the bible and travel, that's cool, and I can't wait what he'll come back with, integrating those experiences with/through his music!

i can!!! i live 4 the day!! and they would b hearing the hits when discovering them 4 the 1st time. i came on aboard in 84 and never heard a lot of the previous hits like sexy dancer, sexuality until many years later on a certain format and appreciated that i did. I didn't need 2 c it live in order 2 enjoy it. why can't others do the same thing?

Keep trying, if you still have no luck by the night of the Concert itself go and see the Customer Services desk inside the arena. As you have a genuine(?) fear of heights they would not wish to be seen to be responsible in case you have an accident.

Whenever you contact them make sure that you ask to speak to a supervisor, don't forget to ask for the persons name, you should also make it quite clear that you are making a note just in case you need to make a subsquent claim. Always try and be polite as I like to think this approach works rather than rant and rave.

They are responsible for your safety whilst in the O2 and they have a legal obligation of due care. Can another orger help out with advice on how to approach this problem.

Just (cheekily) tried with ticketmaster to move two row a upper tier tickets to good lower tier ones on the 21st. Pleaded that I purchased the tickets before the warning about heights was issued.

Was told that this switch was no longer possible (nor would it be nearer the date) as there are no tickets left at all for the lower tier. Was told that my only choice now was not to go. I think we will manage to get by. lol

No, you're not the only one that still wants to hear the hits.... I've been reading the odd post from L4OATheOriginal, and while I appreciate that we all have different opinions, I do still believe he doesnt "get" that ALOT of people still want to hear the older stuff as well as the newer material. Just because he is sick of it - others arent. I think you've made your point mate - numerous times!!!

I think his older stuff is always going to crop up during future performances. Maybe not Purple Rain or Kiss, but there are plenty of other older songs that are fantastic and that arent classified as commerical "hits" which I hope are not gone for good. Alot of the older material still sounds excellent now and compared to other music out there today, its still way superior. Thats just my opinion.

PS - Cant wait for the 21st - am going to love every second of the whole night!!!

i comprehend it fine..understand it ..not quite. why would u want 2 hear the same tune over and over? i agree with ur 2nd paragraph where he could still do old material just not the well known ones and give a fresh spin on it ala the ONA tour.

I too am going to be horribly, painfully, crushingly sad when this journey is all over. Him doing these shows has been a wonderful gift and I am grateful. But, do I think this will be the last time he plays in the UK? Absolutely not. Will it be the last time he plays massive shows? Given the shitty sound and the hits for casual fans, I can only hope so!

James Brown was touring and kicking ass on stage well into his 70s. Prince is up there a man of 49 but playing and moving like a man in his 20s. He doesn't believe in birthdays and he will go on for decades yet. No doubt about it!

I had Upper tier tickets, front and centre, for one show and they were not too bad. Yes you are high up (nosebleed time) but then again it gives you a real appreciation of the entire stage. Mind you having been to a few shows I have also become a bit of a seat snob. I really want to sit in one of the side blocks and between 5-10 rows from the front.

I'm not convinced this will prove 2 be his last live appearance on these shores but I doubt he'll tour on this scale again, possibly the odd small scale low profile appearances. This would suit me for 2 reasons, firstly havinf missed out on the ONA tour at intimate venues I still look forward to the opportunity to see him at an intimate venue and secondly if he plays smaller venues then it might (just might) mean he plays closer to where I live!! I think his next tour should be a tour of small venues in countries he's never played, specifically Wales, ok so now I'm dreaming, may I live to see the dawn!!

Hi
I am going on the 9th for the last time and will be crying for sure! Didn't manage to get tickets for the 21st, but if i did, I think I would of been even more of a mess at the end of the show. Why don't we on the 22nd all have what I call 'Prince nights' at home. Get all your Dvd's/videos/records and CD's and dedicate the whole evening to Prince. The lovesexy video does it for me everytime. It brings back so many great memories.

Yeah - great idea - would love to. However - my husband doesn't really allow Prince in the house - I have to hide all my DVDs at my sisters! My last show will be 16th - am dreading it - but will be in the US while all you guys are going to 21st show - so I'm hoping that my complete detachment from it will mean I don't feel it TOO bad (who am I kidding?). I am dreading leaving the UK -knowing HE is still here (how can I be in US while he's in UK????) then when I get back - he'll be gone - for how long??? If I could tell myself that he'll be back next year, then I could probably bear it. But FIVE YEARS people? Worked out that I'll be knocking on 40 if he leaves it that long again - and of course - he'll be well over the 50 hump! Could he try and fit some more touring in? PLEASE! I can't wait another 5 years for his return. cry nuts

And who says you can't enjoy Prince when you're "knocking on 40"!!! I'm 42 and am still rocking! I am a bit of a lightweight though - after the main and aftershow on 1st September, I lost my voice and my whole body ached for three days solid. How Prince does it I'll never know.

PLEASE! I can't wait another 5 years for his return. cry nuts

not 2 b cynical but aren't u over dramatising this? US fans suffered a five year absence as well, he never toured with Sott here, and not 2 mention the diamonds and pearls tour as well.

have some compassion 4 the fans in Japan who have seen him less times than both of our countries. And what would u say 2 those in Australia that have seen even LESS than Japan.

i swear, he needs 2 give the aussie and japan fans more love than either one of our nations.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

And who says you can't enjoy Prince when you're "knocking on 40"!!! I'm 42 and am still rocking! I am a bit of a lightweight though - after the main and aftershow on 1st September, I lost my voice and my whole body ached for three days solid. How Prince does it I'll never know.

a lot of herbal tea 2 loosen his vocal chords and the physical training u put ur body through 2 maintain.

I hear you I hear you. I spent too many years living in Australia (readers, I married one that's my excuse) Now my decision to emigrate back to UK is completely vindicated, and knowing how often Prince goes down under, there is NO WAY on earth I am moving back there - at least until Prince can no longer tour (I can't put it any more subtely than that that I suspect he may be mortal too and the awful day will have to come at some point). My husband wants to move back 'home' to Queensland but how can I when Prince doesn't go there??? To do my 'bit' I took a HUGE Aussie fan to a show with a spare ticket. She had worshipped Prince for 20 years but never seen him live. Was tempted to tell her she should live in sensible country but resisted.

You people in US seem to have lots more of him on TV, popping up here and there than we would EVER get over here. I don't think I've ever seen Prince on TV (oh - there was the Brits or something last year I recall). Anyway - that's not the point - us Brits clearly love him lol and we could go on loving him an awful lot more if he let us.... lol tease beg beg thumbs up!
If anybody asks you, I belong to Prince....

the major factor of him being on US tv more is, well he's a american has more residences here in the US than in the UK. the same can b attributed 2 british acts having more time on UK tv than in the states. thus it makes even sadder knowing that Housequake's video section is closed. it bridged the gap 4 fans all over the world 2 c prince's per4mances on TV
