Teenagers say the dumbest things!! I had the misfortune of having a conversation with one of our office juniors this morning. You know the type...18, earrings the size of dustbin lids, and whose musical taste extends to what "r'n'b", chipmunk sounding ringtone she has on her mobile phone.
Anyway, we had the whole what you got planned for the week chat, and I mentioned the upcoming Prince concernt on 21st...to which her reply was, and I quote:- "Oh, he did that kissing song didn't he.....isn't he dead??" ...I don't consider myself old at 26, but I am truly staggered sometimes by the sheer ineptitude of today's "yoof". Needless to say she slowly backed out my office as I starred at her in disgusted disbelief. www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Let us know who she is and we'll beat her to death. Not that we're fanatical or anything...

I work at a university - and have a Prince calendar and some 'subtle' Prince pictures up in my office (as well as playing on stereo 24/7 natch) and the amount of times students have asked me 'Who is that?' - I always tell them that there went their degree out the window - I'm now going to fail them regardless for being totally clueless. Mind you - I did have a student once who I suspect had the smallest of crushes - and whenever he saw me - he'd take out his earphones and claim he was listening to 'Raspberry beret' or 'sign of the times' and grin at me - sad but also kind of cute that he was trying to impress me! I am pleased when I see 'youngsters' posting on the org - as at least some kids know Prince and are going to keep his music going! If anybody asks you, I belong to Prince....

I am pleased when I see 'youngsters' posting on the org - as at least some kids know Prince and are going to keep his music going! Ahhh....the old student crush on the lecturer!! Unfortunately, all my lecturers at Uni were minging, and certainly none of them were Prince fans, or not that we ever discussed music of anything. I do think its great when kids find Prince. Just think what a massive back catalogue of amazing albums they have waiting for them. I still get a buzz about discovering artists that I never previously liked or knew about, its such a rewarding experience. I still remember hearing Thunder from Diamonds & Pearls back in '92...a mate brought a tape into school and I had to find out who was playing this amazing music. Think I was about 11 at the time. I got hold of a dusty copy of Purple Rain at a bootfair the following weekend and stuck it on my Dad's old turntable. I listened to the whole thing over and over again the rest of the day and have been hooked ever since. www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

That's too funny! My oldest sister, now in her 40's, thought that Tom Jones did the original of Kiss! This was only about 5 years ago. Young people do not have the monopoly on ineptitude.

My nieces, aged 10 and 11, are beginning to get into Prince. One has quietly confiscated a copy of Planet Earth for her room (she is a bit of a rock chick and likes Guitar, but she thought noone noticed). Anyway considering one of her other aunties likes Cliff Richard, she probably thinks her mum and I are really cool.

My best friend's in-laws who must be in their 50-60's had never even heard of Prince.
I think I was struck dumb when I said "I'm going to see a Prince concert!" and they said "Who's he?" God knows what planet they've been living on.

I never get the whole "Prince is gay" thing that some people seem to think. I mean, apart from androgynous dress sense in the earlier days, there's no vibe whatsoever from the man himself.

I do hope your story isn't entirely representative!!! Some of my young relatives asked who he was, so I gave them a copy of Planet Earth. I suspect when I see them next they'll be using it as a coffee coaster... "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

Wearing a corset on the cover of your latest album doesn't help. He should've worn it under his shirt like the great William Shatner... "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

In all seriousness, I suspect this was partly "artistic licence" in that he needed to look thinner in order for the shape of the earth to stand out and not be "swallowed up" by his shirt. I can still see some people going "whoa..." though. "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

As we both know mate, Prince is a skinny mofo if ever there was one! That corset although bad, is not as bad as the braces on his leather swimming trunks, was that clockin' the jizz or gangsta glam, can't remember...

Shhhessssshhhh....talk about treading on egg shells round here!! Its was a tongue in cheek post, and I didn't mean ALL teenagers. Perhaps I need to add "overly touchy" to list as well!! Well expect an angry response when you attack a group that there are actually a lot of people of here. It's amazing how the older people on this forum think they're some kind of high and mighty legends simply because they're older. Apparently, this also means that every single teens taste in music sucks and even if they do listen to Prince they probably only listen to Purple Rain

My original post, as I've already stated, was tongue-in-cheek, but obviously the humour in the post and the subsequent responses from other Orgers has gone over your head. And I'd hardly call a few comments about a girl who works in our office an "attack" on your group!! Perhaps you should read what I actually put and note the black humour contained therein...and if that's not a concept you're familiar with, look it up. Unfortunately, though I my comment about being over-touchy was also in jest (hence the smiley faces) you seemed to have proved that one correct with your somewhat bitter reply. May I suggest you have a coke and a smile, and drop the whole "I'm a teenager, its me against the old folk" schtick; its been done before www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Why would it have any bearing on anything if he was gay? Personally I think he's fucked both. That, to me, just means he's a dirty git Lot's of stars have used that to their advantage at different points of their careers. Personally I think Prince just loves having sex and gets off on everything. Wonder if he's ever got it on with Dita...?

Right, new topic: Teenagers Smell of BO and are know-nothing know-it-alls Who listen to crap like Paramore and the like and may listen to Let's Go Crazy because it has a guitar on it. And Welcome to the Jungle. Same reason. Maybe even Enter Sandman for that classic metal vibe. Man.
