Memories of the ONA soundchecks

I was just talking in another thread about these. Anyone have any memories of these - the two i went to were really quite different, so i guees they were probably different experiences in every country! What songs did he play? What instruments did he play? Did he talk to the fans/fams? etc

Here's what i wrote in the other thread, with my slightly dodgy memory!
-----
I imagine it varied a lot from venue to venue, but we turned up early evevning - i would guess about 5, but i honestly can't remember exactly what time it was, queued up for a bit, picked up our laminates with the email printouts we had, and then we were ushered into the venue to the front few rows where we all took our seats. The band were already on stage playing, but prince wasn't there at first. When he came out, he was dressed in what i guess is casual for him, but still smarter than most people! a black kind of jersey shirt(much like the ones he wears now) and black trousers, and a kind of beenie hat. He picked up a bass moved to the side of the stage and jammed along with the band.

It was after the sound check that he came to the mic and thnk us for coming, a guy shouted out that it was his girlfriend's birthday, prince said happy birthday. Someone else asked if there was going to be an aftershow, Prince said 'not tonight' after an audible sound of disappointment from us lot, he added 'maybe tomorrow' which got a cheer.

It was a pretty surreal experience, people were keeping a respectful silence through the whole thing, just obviously happy to be there...then when he came to the mic a few bolder people piped up with questions!

We then left the venue, and re-queued for the main show.

The soundcheck in dublin was different, we were kept waiting outside a lot longer, when we got into the venue(more like an arena) the band were in full swing doing Pop Life. Again we were in the front few rows, but as the venue was bigger, the stage was separated by a barrier, so it was a bit more removed (no banter between us and Prince) It felt more like a private concert (the lights were being used too)

Sorry, i wish my memories were a bit better! also I wish i'd written something down at the time! Two of my friends came with me, so i'll ask them what they remember! There must be a few people here with memories of it too! - i'll start a new thread

cloudguitar said:[quote]yea, it was through the npgmc . $99 and you got a ticket for the main show in the first few rows, entrance to the soundcheck, and entrance to the aftershow(if there was one)

though the aftershow i went to they still charged us when we went in...they said the proceeds were going to charity, but i'm not convinced!

the sound checks did feel slightly rehearsed...kind of as if it was a post soundcheck soundcheck if that makes sense...they only lasted a few songs....i remember him doing empty room, days of wild, poplife, and question of you/falling...he did come and speak to us briefly too...i'd guess there were maybe 40 people there
