Aftershow 28 August 2007

You hardly need another person telling you how good lastnight's aftershow was, but i feel i have to. Really for myself. Maybe if i put down some of my thoughts it'll help me calm down- come back down to earth. Do i want to come back down to earth?

Thank you so much for lastnight. I got tickets for this concert when i complained about about the Friday 3rd aftershow fiasco. I didn't expect him to perform.

And then you hear the guitar roaring from behind the curtain. For like 5 minutes you can hear him playing - only Prince could pull this off. And then slowly it's drawn back - and there he is. just him, the drummer, and bassist. And he rips into "Anotherlover"..

This is how i always dreamed i'd see Prince. So much attitude and purpose. Just playing for himself (and i mean that in a good way). Not trying to please the 'hit demanding' fans. He goes into tracks from 'chaos and disorder' - argueably his least successful commercial release - and he puts a life and intensity into these songs that leave you knowing that he's one of the greatest musical artists of all time. It's not even in question anymore.

He has nothing to prove anymore. This is for himself. HE's playing like this will be his tlast 90 minutes on the earth before going back to wherever the gods go.

I'm not doing it justice - last night was so special. The energy was electric. The place was alive. It was like people knew they were witnessing something so special.

I can't not mention Emtpy Room. How has this song never seen a release? Maybe it shouldn't. It could never sound as good on record.

My favourite moment though was 'when will be paid'. I've always loved his version of this. So dark and compelling. His live version was out of this world. I would love you all to have witnessed it. The song - the message behind it - it obviously means so much to him. The crowd were hypnotised.

I am so thankful to Prince for lastnight. I'm too young to have lived in the same age as Hendrix. I've often wished that i could have seen him live. But last night i think i did, just with a little Princely touch.

I'm sorry, i'm sure this post is all over the place. I've had about 2hours sleep, but you get the idea.
"London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"

"YEAH!!!"

"Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"
