1st Sept - THE MOST AMAZING NIGHT AT THE O2 & 3121 - THANKYOU P & NPG

Am too dazed to remember everything, and certainly not the right order, but here's a brain dump of the whole night..

Mutya supported, seemed pretty lame...

Anyway, to the main event! There was no video intro this time, he probably came on around 9-ish.

Prince started with 1999, Take Me with you, Play that funky music (with crowd dancing), oh, then lots of other great tunes.

Ah, he did Toilet Seat Blues biggrin Was stood at the arrow end of the symbol, literally 4 metres in front of us and sang it from start to finish... amazing. He did quite a few slow numbers, Satisfied, the band did some nice Blues (NPG style). The whole of Kiss.

The Piano medleys were awesome: Sometimes it snows, The Beautiful Ones (a couple of verses!), Pop Life..STRANGE RELATIONSHIP!!!!! Erotic City, DMSR (amazing to hear that live!), I wanna Be Your Lover... god, too many to remember. Alphabet Street, Sign o the Times....

Purple Rain, with what sounded like the full extended ending (violin synths and everything!)

Then THREE encores - Controversy, I Feel For You, can't remember what else. Then he came again with the Keyboard, and then again with Let's Go Crazy... LOVE BIZARRE!! The One, Cream...

Finished at around 11.10pm....

He came on at Indigo at about 1am. But before he came to the stage, he appeared above us from the balcony, with that big old smile on his face!

Jesus, amazing one and a half hour set.. Honky Tonk Woman, WHEN YOU WERE MINE (all of it!), the covers, loads of extended jams, the band got really involved, some lovley Jazz & Blues numbers. Maceo was scorching, Prince's guitar playing is indescribable, really unbelievable. Ah, he dropped the guitar laden Alphabet Street, beautiful version of Do Me Baby

Get on the Boat, ah, really can't remember any more... He came on for an encore, and when that finished, the lights came on, DJ started playing, crew on the stage... My girfriend and I went to the front of the stage, just to have a look.. and suddenly Shelby was infront of us, Prince in pursuit, and they launched into a killer track. The place went nuts, everyone rushed to the front...They ran off at the end of the track as quickly as they came on!

Was really struck tonight by how much fun Prince seemed to be having. In the main show, the crowd really warmed up, toward the end, and during the encores the cheering was LOUD!! It was great. He kept saying 'Thank you London', and applauding the audience. Same in Indigo, the place was so up for it, and so was P & the band it seemed. Lots of thankyous from him again.

When it was all over, P appeared for ten seconds out of the door to the left of the stage. Of course, the poor guy god mobbed and ran out again.

Right, over to someone else to make sense of what I've typed...!

Nobody does it better, believe it. biggrin

well put, what a F...in night, main show was exhausting, that is how good it was, was in the f2 area at the aisle, got to high five almost all the band as they left, and a good hand shake with Maceo, aftershow simply burned, he wore this brilliant red outfit, with big hat an all, the quick peak at the balcony at about 10 2 1 give us all a taste of what was to come. The mainshow was over 2 hours, the crowd were going mental, and he was lovin it, i actually was getting worried that he might not turn up at the aftershow, simply becoz i was shattered, so i cant imagine how he was.

Then there was the aftershow aftershow party on the clipper on the thames, any orgers who were there, a big thank you, that was absolutely halirious and helped me wind down after the nights events cloud9

the temptation to postpone my flights again is huge and simply stay till the 22nd err
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Oh, just remembered that in the main show he sang the whole of "What have you done for me lately" as well. Anyone know what that amzaing jam at Indigo was, it sounded like the bass track from the Massive Attack tune, then some guitar riff on top of that...?? Yeah baby, YEAH! Ah, and did Prince play the guitar part of Question of U as well? It's all a bit of a muddle, hope someone got it written down!

I saw the photographers as well. And I thought Kiss came across as being quite 'managed' (not a criticism before anyone shouts at me!), the light was very white, and definitely brighter, the confetti, etc... But hey, maybe that's just concert design..!

I had already posted some of this earlier but I thought it would fit better in this thread (title-wise). Changed a couple of bits here and there. wink

Head still buzzing from last night's aftershow and voice still croaky from all the cheering and singing. I’ve now been to three aftershows (including 18th August the historic "Tangerine suit & Feathery hat" night) and I got to see Prince at each one of them. Can life get any better than that?

The aftershow last night was simply star fantastic star, brought me on such a high level (way, way up there) and left me so inspired. These guys are unbelievable (can’t find any adjectives that encapsulate the quality and vibrant atmosphere of these shows). Prince himself got incredibly creative with his guitar, experimenting with various styles over a wide range of songs (I’m not going to list them all), including a far-out version of Stratus and a couple of Sly & The Family Stone classics (Thank You for Talking to Me Africa & Sing a Simple Song) with amazing vocals by Prince, Shelby & Marva.

And we got several encores! The first one was a brilliant performance of Get on the Boat (with guest will.i.am from the black eye peas!). The last one happened suddenly whilst everyone had already started to leave the Indigo. I had been standing near the steps on the side of the stage all evening and was still there, saying goodbye to everyone, when the band swiftly started playing again. I was abruptly pushed by a forceful crowd movement. I had no choice but to start climbing those stairs in order to escape the pressure, ending up nose to nose with the security man (who was really cute btw). One poor girl below in the crowd started to hyperventilate as she was being squashed so much she couldn't breathe. No one had noticed her and I tried my best to free her by asking people to stand back, but this proved really difficult, as the crowd had turned into one compact mass of bodies. The girl eventually managed to free herself as the crowd’s pressure eased a little. Unfortunately this distracted me a little bit and I can't remember what song they were playing, but it really rocked!

I also met a lot of great people last night, a nice couple from France, two people from Holland, and let’s not forget the star of the audience: Carla from Chicago, standing out with her bright red shirt, glittery trilby hat, and glorious smile, who despite not having slept since leaving Chicago the day before, seemed like the liveliest person in the audience. And of course SuperGT and his wife Little Bee! (will see you very soon). smile

One thing I had forgotten to mention earlier was this (as quoted from 3121 website)

"Shelby J. tore things UP last nite 2… at one point we lost track of her as she sang, only 2 spot her right down in front IN THE CROWD belting out a tune like nobody’s business! Shelby, u’re brave!!!"

Yes, Shelby J. literally plunged into the front of the audience in the middle of a song, and disappeared for at least a minute (whilst still singing) then re-emerged, helped by an assistant, and carried on singing. A wild night!

Everybody is a star
I can feel it when you shine on me
I love you for who you are
Not the one you feel you need to be
Ever catch a falling star
Ain't no stopping 'til it's in the ground
Everybody is a star
One big circle going round and round

Many thanks to Prince and the NPG for giving us such a great night!

We love you!

I agree and thought the same. Also during Guitar, they took loads of photos and the lighting was brighter than normal.

Knowing Prince, he'll change his mind and it won't come out....however, I pray it does.
