There's quite a few people going to more than one show. I think the missus and I will have about 15 copies between us at the end of September.
I'd personally prefer to hear the new stuff but there's no way he would have sold out the O2 for 21 nights doing that. I can live without hearing most of Musicology as for me it is easily the weakest of the last 3 albums. So far I've heard the following from 3121: 3121, Lolita, Black Sweat, Satisfied and Get On The Boat. I would love to hear The Dance, The Word and Fury but aren't too fussed about the others. He should definitely be playing more Planet Earth stuff and to go a night without playing anything from it just seems wrong to me. So far I've heard Planet Earth, Guitar, Somewhere Here On Earth and 1 line of the chorus from The One U Wanna C which was sung during Pink Cashmere one night. I'd love to hear Planet Earth again, along with The One U Wanna C. RIP

I've only heard Guitar so far. Hoping for Planet Earth on one of my other nights. Shopping is not a sport!

So I don't mind hearing hits, such as Purple Rain, Lets Go Crazy, Take Me With U, The Beautiful Ones and When Doves Cry. It's almost like they were made 2 go 2gether. Guys, u can buy these 2gether. They r on the same album entitled Purple Rain. [Edited 9/11/07 8:53am]

IMO, I am very disappointed with the set lists. With a catalog as deep as his, you'd think he'd drop the covers and medleys. Though it is understandable as he hasn't been out there in a long long time, but still...1999, Purple Rain, Let's go Crazy, Kiss???? You're gonna get a roasting for saying that. Did u not read my post entitled `Okay Prince u got so many hits...then why don't u play them!' But we are entitled to our opinions. This is an thought-provoking thread. So I'm going to irritate you with mine
Maybe the covers are there because he feels the set needs to contain a good proportion of material that the audience will know... but doesn't just want to become a "hits machine". So, play well-known songs by other artists. I'd love to see him do "Long And Winding Road" again. That's a beautiful song. I thought it came across better than "Come Together". Re Hits vs new, even though I'm not big on the new album, I'd rather see new. But that's a fan perspective for you. Playing lots of new material does depend on the audience actually having heard the new album. Genesis (you're thinking "What!?", but its a particularly famous example of getting it wrong) toured their "Lamb" double album in the seventies, playing the whole thing start to finish every night... before the album was actually released! The tour was a total bust and the reviews they got were so bad they had to cancel the last few dates. (Don't worry, I wasn't there for those shows! I'm not *that* old One problem for P is that because he doesn't do the promotion that he used to do, new release sales are lower, and only a fraction of any given audience will know the new stuff. So he kind of has no choice but to do "hits". My concern is that he'll start to become one of those artists that audiences only go to see play "Purple Rain" and "Kiss". (okay, or 1999, or LRC, or...). Problem with that is if you don't keep moving forward, you start to move backward. Or you have to play smaller venues and less dates, and make sure your fans are there... which if you're not careful gives the general public the impression that whatever you "had" in your heyday, you've lost it. You can see how some very successful artists feel their success has created a rod for their own back, and end up flipping out. So I'd say P has got it right at the O2. The balance of the main show is right for the audience that's there. And the aftershows rock for us hardcore fans. Although, having said that, I think the general public would really get off on the aftershow too! My friends had never seen him before, owned none of his music, but totally freaked at both shows on Sunday. I love it when "ordinary" people suddenly get it.

Welcome to a Prince concert. I saw the Purple Rain Tour and the Lovesexy Tour. They were both amazing. He doesn't put on good shows anymore. He's predictable playing medleys of great songs, but snippets that are shorter than if you were flipping through radio stations. The trick Prince has up his sleeve is he sells his tours on the merits of years long gone. He isn't Purple Rain or Sign O The Times worthy anymore. Now he is backed by amazing wonders of tackiness like "Life O The Party" or I honestly can't even name a good new Prince song...
It's sad but it won't change. He takes your money and gives you bullshit.

Let's face it. We all have different favourites that we want to hear. I have never heard Planet Earth, 3121 or Musicology live, so anything from them was brilliant for me. I've heard Raspberyy Beret, Tak Me With U etc, Loads of times live - since Lovesexy in 1988, that's why I want the new stuff. I feel he's getting the vibe and beginning to do more Planet Earth particulalry at aftershows. He must read this. Chelsea Rodgers. That appears to be appearing more. Cause we want it to.
Who wants some Head? or P Control. Get Off. Sister. New Position. Jack U Off. Not likely to happen Someone said it earlier. Gold was a fantastic finish. I Went home feeeling all good, but sad inside. And now for a cup of tea. I'm getting to know you lot. I should of posted earlier. P & B W PeACe & B WiLd

It's sad but it won't change. He takes your money and gives you bullshit. You know, I kind of agree with you... but there was nothing about Sunday's aftershow I would term "bullshit". Far from it. But yes, he does kind of have to sell his shows on the strength of his older hits, because that's all the general public knows since he dropped off the radar commercially. Hmm... maybe that's the point of these "singles" he's currently so down on. Remember when Sexy MF was released and for three weeks the radio woke up to him? What's so wrong with releasing killer singles? It's a tough one, he's clearly not concerned about public opinion - the "true" fans get it and that's good enough for him (and me) - but then he depends on public favour to do the big shows that make touring financially viable. I also agree that since his split with Steve Fargnoli, his albums have been progressively less "tight" (3121, Musicology and C&D partly excepted IMO). But I disagree that he hasn't written any good songs! If I was to throw together a double album of his best tracks from the last ten years, it'd probably be my favourite album of all time! I mean, did you see his performance of "The One" on Sunday night? I mean, wow. Wow wow wow wow... The last point I'd make is that the eighties were a long time ago. Everything has moved on, and I mean *everything*. Prince is 20 years older, and the music industry has changed radically. Audiences too. This makes it really hard to successfully stage anything like Lovesexy or SOTT again. Tours now HAVE to make money. But still... I understand where you're coming from. I don't know what the answer is. It may be a bit of a gag, but he's right, he has so many hits, what would the perfect set list look like? I don't know. Ask ten people, you'll get ten different answers. I don't need to see him play Cream, but my friend would have been upset if he hadn't. Oh yeah, here's another vote for "Gold". I can never figure out why that was such a great tune live, but even now I can still feel that big warm glow of being in the front blocks when the opening chords fire up. Never felt anything quite like it before or since. I occasionally find a bit of gold confetti in the pockets of clothes I haven't worn in years. Sing it with me... "Whoa-oh-oh-oh".
