That's my girl...

Ever since I was pregnant I have subjected my daughter (who will be 3 on Prince's last night in London sad ) to loud renditions of Prince (mostly in the car, but have also been known to blast the music and have a good old jig about the carpet with her). This morning all of my hard work came to fruition when she proclaimed a fabulous Prince style 'Ooowwaaaah' from her car seat!

It was a proud moment touched
I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

C'mon and dance while you, while you still have your cherry babe, cherry babe..

You keep at it! My daughter is 5 and can sing nearly all of The One U Wanna C, and snippets of Controversy, and Future Baby Mama. She gets in the car and asks me to put Prince on (only on the rare occasion I don't have him on anyway!) It's great to hear your kids singing along to Prince with you isn't it!

I was putting my 4 year old son to bed last night and as I kissed him goodnight he said.... I love you mummy... but not like I love my guitar.. I nearly cried I only wish I could take him to a Prince concert... He loves playing air guitar to several of Princes tracks and has now asked for a guitar for his birthday!
Why do I keep hitting myself with a hammer? Because it feels so good when I stop.

I have tried and tried to get my daughters (twinz) into Prince (aged 8) - I think I'm finally getting there - although one of them asked the other day if I'd play them 'Starbucks and Coffee' - I nearly died! Only problem with it is the rudeness - I played 'It' the other day - and of course they kind of want to know what the song is about - and one of their favourites is 'Hot Thing' which is ok as fairly obscure. But how do you censor all the rude bits? I don't really want my 8 year olds singing that they want to 'do you after school like some homework' or 'on the kitchen table' etc. I don't want the inevitable questions!
CMcC - If anybody asks you, I belong to Prince

You'll just have to censor what they listen to. Guess it's harder with 8 year olds as they ask questions. I had Prince "The Hits" cd on in the car the other day and Head came on. I quickly skipped it.....

Played P control this week and he was like eek eek eek I just said it was like P singing about girl power long before the spice girls smile

Quick thinking! I remember years ago when my brother first got into Prince at around age 13 he wrote out the words to Darling Nikki and my mum found them in his bedroom and questioned him big time!

My 3 year old daughter started naming off Prince songs in the car today. She got up to 9 by herself then with some subtle prompting (i.e. which one does he wear the blindfold for...Glam Slam or which one does he say boo on...Girls and Boys) we got up to about 24.
How many tracks would your kids know and would it be the same stuff i.e. mainly hits or what?
These are the ones she knows:
1999
Little Red Corvette
When Doves Cry
Let's Go Crazy
Purple Rain
Raspberry Beret
A Love Bizzare
Kiss
Girls and Boys
Sign 'O' the Times
Starfish and Coffee
U Got the Look
Alphabet St.
Glam Slam
I Wish U Heaven
Batdance
Partyman
Cream
Do Your Dance
Diamonds and Pearls
My Name is Prince
The Most Beautiful Girl in the World
Shhh
Guitar
She failed on Song of the Heart. I asked whats the one Prince sings about the penguins and she said "Happy Feet", so I promptly sent her to bed with no supper.....joke!

What a great story! My 4 yr old son also loves this track and I caught him playing some mean air guitar to it the other day, but he's not said anything as cool as that yet!

Excellent thread.

Just this afternoon my missus had put 3121 on while preparing dinner in the kitchen. As the title track starts, our two year old, (3 in December), announces, "Mummy, I like this song" and then starts repeating 21,21.

We were like WTF! eek

lol

I think that Chelsea Rogers must be a big hit with the tots - my daughter loves that track, but she was also rockin it to 'eye no' (Lovesexy) She also goes around singing 'we are a staaaaar' with her arms and legs sprawled!

The other day I was doing some ironing whilst listening to SOTT - when Adore came on she came in and pulled me down for a hug, I picked her up and she just held on to me and stroked my hair - I sang it to her (changing a couple of the words) and by the end I was in tears - I have always thought of that song as our song (take out the sex and the sentiment in it is exactly how I feel about her)

How soppy am I? eek

I have been playing songs to my twinz, but my husband getting a little sick of it - he's not a fan (whatsoever) so he thinks I'm forcing Prince on them... think I may have to lay off for a little while. One my little girls did a lovely dance tonight to The Question of U - and she loves 'Hot Thing' - she is practising her screams! -sorry - logged in as my sister 'Scuzzy' - she wants it to be made clear that she is SINGLE without CHILDREN - while her older sister (me - ctmccartney) is the one with hubbie/ kids!

I've shared this before, but have to tell it again in this thread:

While driving along in the car, TMBGITW came on. My then 4 year old son said, Mommy! This is the song Prince wrote about you!!!" Of course, it made me all gushy.

Fast forward three years later, and my little girl, now 4 heard TMBGITW and said, "OH MOMMY! It's your song from Prince!" My son, now 7 said, "nuh uh. Prince didn't write this about Mommy. He wrote it about Mrs. Henning (his TEACHER!!!!) mad

I thought I would be the only woman in my son's life a LITTLE longer than that!!! machinegun
