August 18th: Short But Sweet

This was definetely a special day, as this was the first time I had been to London in quite a while. The journey (all the way from Anglesey in North Wales) was all in all around 6 hours. We stayed at a nice little hotel called 'The Custom House'. I was in awe walking around The O2, a fantastic venue. Everything was fantastic. Me and my family had tea in 'Frankie and Benny's', a great resteraunt with nice food, only problem was that my brother's dessert was dropped on the floor by one of the waitresess and it took a while to get a new one. It was also nice being able to sit down with a nice pint before the gig, my brother went a bit far and got quite drunk but was no problem razz. By 7:30pm, we were in the venue eagerly waiting. I had a feeling of disbelief in myself as I was seeing someone so legendary as Prince, it's a once in a lifetime thing for someone my age. The wait was a long one as Prince was late and he hit the stage at around 9:20pm. But as soon as his presence was known in the arena, the wait was all worth it and the venue erupted. Prince played a rather short set raging at about 1 hour and 30 minutes but played hits such as '1999','Kiss', 'Let's Go Crazy, 'Purple Rain' etc. and also played a nice medley with less than a minute of many songs, I would have liked to hear 'Raspeberry Beret' in full though to be honest wink. He performed two encores and at the end of the show I was amazed, never have I seen such an amazing show in my life. Seeing as I've only seen him this one time, I could say personally that he looked like he was on form. His showmanship was fantastic and I loved the occasional cocky-talk he'd churn out. My favorite moment of the gig had to be when he was asking the crowd what hit we wanted to hear and he scanned through a couple and then said 'I know what song to play...' and the guitar line of 'Kiss' came in; Genious biggrin Only problem is, I want to go see him again in London, but I am back in North Wales now sad This is a night that won't be forgotten...ever.

Our first time seeing P last night on this tour and loved it,even the stuff he did at the keyboard was fun,tho towards the end,the teasing got too much LOL.When I heard the first 5 words of EC I almost peed, only for him to go into another song LOL. The only drawback was that he didnt play black sweat or guitar for my 13 yr old who loves those songs. Roll on 28th excited

Just to point out, the Raspberry Beret part of the synth/piano medley got a longer treatment than the other songs.

Whilst I think the synth bit is a cop-out by P, the piano accompaniment to Raspberry Beret was a highlight in an otherwise average show.

I felt disappointed that this performance happened on a Saturday night. There are lots of non-Prince at the weekend shows and for them to see an average Prince show will taint their view of him. This mild and meek review will be passed on to all their friends to much lacklustre.

What I want is for P to perform as we know he can (and in fairness, has for the other concerts) so they have no choice but to rave to their friends about him and become fans!

Hopefully, that's the last mistep he makes performance-wise.

As for the setlist, please Prince: mix it up. Where are 'When Doves Cry', 'Diamonds and Pearls', 'TMBGITW'? You know, the songs that were HITS. Hits for a hits tour.

I don't expect 10-minute performances of "Play That Funky Music (White Boy)" when he isn't touching on his own major hits.
