Confessions of a Prince fan, part 2 Here are my basic assumptions for when I go on a Prince trip:
* Prince is awesome * Prince fans are beautiful and strange * Make sure you spend enough time with all of the above, and you are in for an unforgettable experience While being in London this weekend, I realized something about Prince's stay there that struck me silent for a while. For 21 days, thousands upon thousands of Prince fans from all over the world are meeting each other. Some will have known each other for years, but will still meet for the very first time. Others will hook up with their oldskool posse, then branch out from there. And many new people will be introduced to our larger community. It truly is a beautiful thing to experience the sheer diversity of the fans themselves, combined with the international flavor they bring. If you just sit at the entrance of the O2 when people start streaming in from about 4pm, you’ll witness a very colorful parade. Prince fans wear business suits, or proudly show off their symbol tattoos. They wear skimpy suits, not quite covering the full length of their 35+ behinds. They’re also married and over 60, wearing badly aged Diamond and Pearls tour t-shirts. Sometimes they spend a great deal of time making their own clothing and jewelry, and put some extra shine on their earwrap. They keep detailed set lists, and have scarily organized Ipods. They have long unkept beards and sandals, but also finely trimmed hairdos, sometimes with a symbol shaved in. They’ll walk around barefoot, after the show, smoking cigarettes outside. They’ll be very drunk, or telling you you shouldn’t have drank that much. Some sleep in their cars, some in expensive hotels. Some do not sleep at all. There are those that swear Prince was crying during Purple Rain, and have elaborate interpretations to his each and every move. Others go around sharing valuable information with everybody all day long, but will make a point of not being able to reveal their source. Some will bring their kids, some will show you pictures of them, some will just be looking to practice making babies. But all of them love Prince, and all of them have a unique story to tell. Now here's the thing ... I think that once the London experience is over, that'll be it for a long while. I still believe that "3121" can somehow be deciphered into "Prince's Retirement Fund", and I bet it's pretty much mission accomplished when he's done in London. Of course we will be seeing each other again in the future, but surely not on the scale of what we are doing in London right now. Thank U 4 flying Prince International, the aircraft is about to come to a complete stop. It is clear to me that many of us are busy documenting Prince’s stay in London, whether through reports on sites such as this one, pictures or recordings. When we focus solely on Prince, are we forgetting how unique these 21 gatherings of fans are, and how it will never ever happen again once it’s over. My question to all of you is if we shouldn’t be documenting our community in some way as well. I’m asking for an extensive photo reportage, at least, showing us in all our colors. What do you think? Beautifully put! I think you are right that this is the last big arena tour. I don't think P will ever retire. He'll just do what James B did. He'll take a Prince Revue on the road every few years to pay the Paisley electricity. Photos on there way! .

Yes but I'm not sure I'd agree with the prediction. All Prince needs to do is go to see The White Stripes (who remind of him and Mayte) and it'll be freaky clothes and noises goin somewhere he ain't been.
But he is sooooo overdue for a period away from 'himself'. If he can go somewhere that will enable him to take off his makeup and send the bodyguards home, get out and see a few sights that he hasn't yet seen, then inspiration will strike. As it is, Prince has been working with auto-pilot and while that's no blow-up doll, when he gets back the skipper hat, he'll be looking to push the envelope that Paul McCartney is setting up there at 65 years old. In other words, IT AIN'T OVER! yael72 said: Beautifully written !
