Tuesday 14th setlist 1999
Musicology Cream U Got The Look Shhh Take Me With U Guitar Somewhere Here On Earth 7 Forever In My life If I Was Your Girlfriend Black Sweat Kiss Purple Rain Short break, Mr Hayes and Renato on synths Alphabet Street I Feel For U Controversy Let's Go Crazy Long break, house lights on at least 5 minutes Crazy Nothing Compares 2 U Not quite as good as last Tuesday which was awesome but still pretty damn good. Prince was on stage for pretty much all of it. No Wonderful world this time, instead Renato and Mr. Hayes played some electronic sounds on their synths. Prince played a lot of guitar tonight and there were some great solos, particularly at the end of Shhh and 7. Seemed to be a lot less horns this time too. Plenty of hits tonight and all in good length versions, no medley's. There was no solo sessions with the guitar or piano, everything was done with the full band. Thought we were going to be cover free tonight but they slipped in Crazy near the end. Can't believe he started with 1999, considering he supposedly retired it after the year 2000 concert. The price of the ticket was covered there and then, everything else was a bonus. And what a bonus Forever In My Life was, did not see that one coming at all. There's no way I was going to the aftershow but considering this was a relatively short main show, he could be playing. I guess we'll hear about that shortly. RIP

yep, i didn't see 1999 coming!...awesome...and 'forever in my life'...wow...i've never seen that one live before....really really beautiful...very sparse, but it allowed his vocals to come through really well
i thought the horns were great tonight...less of them yes, but the solos were great (also I really enjoyed beverley knight...couldn't make it to the aftershow - got to work tomorrow!...i've only got tickets for 3 more !!!!!...damn i may have to quit my jobv so i can go in the week!

Yes he did. Awesome night, this is now my second time seeing this show. Saw it Aug 1st too on opening night. Was dissapointed that it was almost the same setlist but there was enough variety to keep me intrigued. Had awesome seats this time! Was in #294 Aug 1st but I had seat #74 tonight. I was so close he made eye contact with me during the solo of Purple Rain (geeky I know, but cool lol). They seemed to have fixed the sound from last time I saw the show, not sure if it was just the better seats but I could hear the bass and drums a lot better. Beverly Knight was an awesome addition, been a fan of hers for ages. When did she start on the tour as she was not there on Aug 1st? The set was a little short and people were booing before and after the encore whenever Prince disappeared off stage which I thought was a little unecessary (it was'nt that short really). I feared there would be a riot before the encore as a lot of people were complaining around me. Prince came onstage around 9:00 and it was finished by about 10:45. A few things that hav'nt been mentioned yet: Forever in my life was pretty much minus the band as he had a backing track playing. Prince played a sick bass solo on Black Sweat which made my night as hes one of my bass playing gurus! After the solo he went to hand the bass to a member of the crowd but cheekily pulled it back when the fan made a grab for it lol. I stayed around for a while after the encore just incase he did another like on opening night. While we were waiting to see if he'd come back on, the crew carried a keyboard with a heart shaped stand onto the stage. The crowd cheered, clearly thinking there would be another encore (and a solo Piano one at that!). Then an anouncer said they would be closing shortly and we had to leave over the tannoy. Like many, the aftershow would have meant missing the train home but I did get the impression he was saving his energy for something tonight hence the fairly short performance. Wish I could have gone though. [Edited 8/14/07 18:58pm]

One more thing to add. There were no audience members onstage last night. RIP

1999? No way!!
Forever In My Life = Beautiful. Glad he did that and hope those who were there enjoyed it. He is pulling some gems from the back catalogue here. Pink Cashmere and now Forever In My Life.....Nice!

One of the best nights of my life!!!! I was 3 rows back from the point of the symbol ( never been that close ever!!) .Highlights for me ,was the funkiest version of Controversy ever and Guitar and when he stood in front of me playing the bass , fucking amazing, so tired and a horse throat, but a permanent smile on my face!!
And as for those arseholes non- fans stood around me getting pissed who didnt deserve to be there when other fans had shit seats, fuck you! you werent gonna spoil my fun!!

Great night - Forever in My Life was astonishing - but he did seem to be saving himself for something - not as exuberant as last Tuesday.
What was the rap/spoken bit he did at the end of "7" (I think - but it might have been another song - it was about a third of the way through the gig)? I couldn't make it out...

He also performed Prince and the Band during Musicology.

Overall, I'd probably rate this show as the least impressive of the 4 I've been to so far. The set list - after a wonderfully surprising opener - was fairly bland, the show actually sounded the poorest so far (may have been my seat), it felt the shortest show I've seen, and there were no acoustic mini-sets. I even don't mind the audience members on stage, which was avoided (for the first time?). The audience on stage definitely added to the magic of the Tuesday 7th show - still the yardstick for what he's capable of in London.
On the plus side - there were no purple medleys!!! Has the purple one been reading some of the reviews / forums??? When he started singing 1999 I'd have bet the farm that he wouldn't get to the second verse - great to be proved wrong. And Prince on an average night is still the best show in town. I just wish he'd stop listing his hits (Raspberry Beret & Sign O The Times last night) which he doesn't actually play, before launching into Black Sweat. And bring back the audience members on stage I reckon! What was that thing he was singing early in the show to no accompaniment about his friends all ageing but 'I still look the same'?

Agree with everything else you said though, Tuesday 7th is still the favourite of my 3 so far. I also don't mind the audience on stage but I was just pointing out that it didn't happen last night. Some of the songs were stunningly performed though, particularly Purple Rain and Shhhh, which seemed far better than the opening night renditions. RIP

Somewhere Here On Earth also sounded a lot better than the first time I heard it.

yeah i enjoyed last night, (it was the first time i went and saw the purple one), lol i spent loads of money on merchandise, i got the "one night alone" cd box set.
was really really good, cannot believe he played "1999", i was under the impression that the last time he was going to play it was at the "rave un2 the year 2000" concert. anyway i did enjoy it, i also thought beverly knight was good as well, aftershow was fantastic, prince was on rare form it seems, the only thing that spoiled it was the guys behind me... i had about 5 pints of beer down my back. well im going to go listen to my live cd now and funk the day away!. Peace out y'all. Stephen

Highlights for me were:
1999 (I thought he was teasing us again when we heard "don't worry, I won't hurt you, I was expecting him to go into another song then went nuts when he actually started playing it!) Forever in my Life - Great version and he got the crowd going with the "alllllright". He got one side of the crowd to screech it, which was really funny. Alphabet Street - I love the country and western vibe he puts on the live version, always makes me smile. Controversy - Man this was the FUNKIEST version of this song I've ever heard! way better than any of the previous 3 nights I've been to. He really went for it on this one. Lowlights for me were: The twinz - Wow they were bad tonight. Their dancing was so out of sync it was embrassing. There were people around me laughing at how bad some of their routines were and, to be honest, I agreed with them! The last song was Nothing Compares 2 U, which, in my opinion, ended the gig on a bit of a downer. A couple of other things I noticed. During Alphabet Street he changed Tennessee for Manchester, a hint maybe as to where he's going next ? Also when he ended the gig he said something along the lines of "we're here 21 nights and we'll play each night with all our hearts".

My comments on the show.
1. The show was weighted much more heavily to guitar led tracks. As a guitarist myself i loved the show!! Im not so keen on loads and loads of brass instrument involvement (although I'll boogie on down to everything). I thought "Guitar" was exceptional and my girlfriend and I moshed away to it while the world around me seemed to be like "whats this track then!!" 2. No audience involvement was an improvement IMO 3. All good long tracks with no teasing (other than suggesting SOTT before Kiss) 4. Im ok on Princes' back catalogue but "Forever In My Life" was not one I am familiar with. Just had a hunt through the back catalogue and cannot find this track on any albums? including various "best of" albums on my favourite russian download site. Which album was it on? Was a great track and want to add it to my collection. 5. Prince was on the stage for pretty much the whole show with only one 5 minute break really (which I was happy to take a rest from dancing on to) so even though this was a shortish show I think he performed as much if not more than saturday night. 6. Loved the fact he played 1999 as the opener!. As one other said that made the price of the ticket worth paying on its own. 7. I missed Beverley Knight unfortunately as i heard from a few others that she was really good. Its bloody annoying not knowing when a support is gonna be playing. I spent 2 hours on saturday in the arena paying over the odds for shit food and overpriced wine/beer. Last night i chilled in the Wine bar by the B entrance which was really nice and very reasonable (for London anyway) but as a result I missed Beverley. As I say very annoying and another example of the pot luck of some elements of seeing prince live. the guitar is the best instrument in the world!

Also watch the SOTT concert movie, that's a great version too.

Beverly Knight was giving her all but in C2 on the floor you could barely make out what she was singing. Shame, and led me to panic that Prince would sound equally as bad, but the sound quality drastically improved for him (hurrah!)
Forever In My Life is on the Sign O' The Times album - and I almost fell over when he played that last night. 1999 was hilarious - I was surrounded by quite a few hardcore and you could see looks on their faces of "it can't be....surely not... can it? OHMYGOD!" as the instrumentation built up. Quality. My overall thought of last night was that he paced the show far far better than the other three I have seen. Moving Take Me With U and Guitar forward and pushing Controversy/Housequake back worked totally as by the time he got to those the crowd were right up for a dance and a bit of arm-waving action. Nothing Compares 2 U was gorgeous and the lack of crowd stage invaders really helped things I thought. As for the Twinz - what the heck were their wigs about all night? LOL. Bless them. They were a bit off the pace last night, but thank God there's been no repeat of the purple rain flag waving or (heaven forbid) the Planet Earth light-up wheelies! agree with pretty much everyone. last night was the best experience of my life, bar the birth of my daughter. the aftershow was immense as well. what an amazing setlist. lovede every second of it. i have to say as well that the version of 'purple rain' last night was probably the best live version of it i've ever heard. the roof lifted off the arena at the end. it was exactly like the movie, to the point where i could picture prince's movements after the song
i was planning on seeing more shows on the tour but i fear them not being as good now!

I thought he was gonna throw the guitar to us in block D3 on the 1st august show too but didn't. the heart shaped stand sounds interesting, maybe he was checking the audiences respond to it to decide if he will use it at other shows. i wouldn't worry about missing the train as there are alternative transports, i hope that you have considered the thames clipper boat service, its good and cost effective. thanks for the update agan Feel free to send me a message and add me as a friend on 'My Space' http://www.myspace.com/murtazaarif

One thing not been mentioned yet is the short rap that Prince did quite early in the concert.
I cant remember all of it but the key bits in it were "wasted 7 years of the prime of my life" "music industry bosses just got older.... i still look the same" the guitar is the best instrument in the world!

Wonder which seven years Prince is referring to though?!?!?! My 2 cents - I enjoyed Tuesday 7th more but 14th was still awesome (if a little short). It was simply amazing to start with 1999 and also hear Forever In My Life. The man was rocking out most of the night on guitar. The crowd were VERY loud and into it and I think Prince performed to that (100% believe that the more love we give the man the more performance he gives back). Not sure if the extra encore was planned but the lights were up and people were not prepared to go home yet. The roar when the band came back on was awesome! Just a shame he didn't play "just one more" as it was only 10:50. Oh well, can't have everything! Roll on Friday 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I was in Row C,It was a great night eh?.. I doubt if you missed me ! I'm a big girl ! I was wearing a long floaty purple paisley top? I was surrounded by piss heads who were just spilling their drinks everywhere and only knew 'the hits' and shouted through the rest of the songs. The bitch in front of me even went to stand on her seat as Prince came on! Needless to say I pushed her off, why people like that are allowed to mix with hardcore is beyond me!
