Your taking the piss are'nt you, Maceo is one of the best jazz saxophone players on the circuit today, i noticed he has been played quite reserved at the prince gigs, but his own live performances when on tour, will just blow your mind. Im gutted he's leaving on the 5th, Good luck maceo, see ya soon "Sometimes being a cold hard bitch is all a woman has left."

I've seen him couple of Times even together wie his old mates Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis. Amazing! This croud really knows to funk the house.
A few years ago, must be around 2002 Maceo played together on an open-Air Gig in Düsseldorf (Jazz Rally) because of a Birthday from Adolphe Sax or something. He was on stage with Greg Boyer (tb), and Candy Dulfer (sax) and W.Boulware (org) and truly it was amazing. I wish he could stay longer in London. El_PResidente

I think Mike Phillips has an overall better range, but its almost like you can't say that because he hasn't done the time. However, I'm glad to see the back of one horn player because regardless of how good they are, Prince is over using them. Now that the horns are playing the parts usually associated with keyboards or rhythm guitar, I think it makes a great deal of tracks sound too caberet. I think he should send the whole horn section of holiday for a bit. .

I know damm well what the horns are during in Let's Go Crazy they are being used to play the keyboard parts. I also am aware of what funk is and P uses the horns in many of his funk songs. You don't appreciate Maceo Parker so I know you don't know the first thing about funk and that is really fine. I just don't understand going to see an artist who has roots in funk music and you can't stand the sound of horns.

I love Maceo! But I agree that Eric is Prince's best horn player his contributions to the back catalogue is immesurable He's the hardest to imitate as well he's almost Coltrane but playing funk! if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

I simply think Prince lets it overshadow his own style, and tries so hard to accomodate the horns he ends up making his own sound sometimes cabaret. Its a case of less is more. I'm happy to see the back of Maceo, much like I was happy to see the end of Larry. I'm not knocking those artists natural talent, but I think that their "aura" holds Prince back from being his own man. I never said Maceo isn't funky. I said it isn't funk horn to play the keyboard sections of Lets Go Crazy. I take it, as you seem to be argueing the point, you think that horns playing the keyboard lines of a rock song like Lets Go Crazy is funk horn then!?!? .
