Sampled Teasers last night.

So, the piano set last night (august 11th) featured very few full songs [unlike the one on the 7th] as Prince decided to tease us endlessly with snippets of songs like when doves cry / sott / erotic city / nasty girl / poplife. What I found peculiar was that many of these snippets were actually sampled with Prince just hitting a few keys on top. I wonder whether his band are prepped for these songs or not? I thought it was a pretty stuttered piano set compared to tuesday.

I'm hoping he's just teasing us with songs to come in future performances.

I was sitting in Row A right behind him when he was on the keyboard. Bacially, he has a sampler resting on top the keyboard, and each key had a sample of a hit on it.

I thought the piano set was a waste last night. All it did was piss people off. The friends I got tickets for said the show was good, but they got annoyed when prince kept talking about hits, or in this case, giving one line intros, only to stop them. He seems to think its entertaining.

Did you here that crowd when the sample of When Doves Cry and SOTT came on! Wake up Prince! Put them in the set!

The "hit" question is a difficult one isn't it? On the one hand we fans are happy to hear Prince play any of his songs ( yes, even Black Sweat or 3121!).

However, do any of you think the shows will win him new fans? The two people I was with on the 4th enjoyed the show but I don't think they'll be rushing out to buy/download any music.....

that's exactly what my friend thought. he just got pissed off at the snippets whereas he could have been blown away by 2 proper full length songs.

you guys were lucky!! I was sitting way up at the top and to be perfectly honest the whole show sounded a bit muffled, it was hard to distinguish the guitaring from the keyboards. but it was great just to be there!!

I really start to think Prince is spoiling the UK a bit too much and should have done a proper tour across Europe rather than playing in front spoilt drunk f*****s who just want to go and see Prince because it is trendy to dig him all of a sudden.
I really regret the ONA days when Prince was more underground.

What were the samples? Instrumental backing? Or samples from the original recordings?

Samples from the originals. Never got enough of them to tell if they were the original recordings or instrumental versions.

Complaints, complaints, complaints, blablabla about setlist of my dreams, what he sould have played or not and how, people were drunk, it smells beer, sound was crap, jazz interludes are crap, he sould not do covers, he is teasing us when he plays a few notes only of some of his hits, why he did not play at the aftershow, waiting in the queue was horrible, stage in the center is a bad idea, he was not into it tonight.
Many of you make it sound like a fiasco all over the org and housequake.
If your friends were not happy with the samples, tell these whiny spoilt winghers to f*** o** from me please.

There's has been a lot to praise and a lot to question, but I'd say spending any time pressing buttons playing back recordings of bits of songs from old albums is a poor use of his talent.

He likes to show off, he likes to play, sing a line, walk off, listen to the crowd pleading, walk back again only to repate the cycle a few times till it wares off on hte crowd. He really has got to put When Doves Cry on, I nearly came in my pant when I heard that.

This type of agressive rubbish is something we would expect from some sad fool who puts " sarkozy" in his pseudo. Please, take out your problems on some other forum and leave us alone.

Admittingly I loved the Sampled set - I thought it was great!

Kind contradicted his "Real music by real musicians" thing a little tho' but at least he didn't do it for too long.

Tuesdays Piano Medley was simply legendary.

Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

Oh, you've got a problem with Sarkozy, poor little boy. Get used to him. He's gonna be around for a while. I'm telling ya !

And sorry if I'm nowhere near as negative as many winghers who complain nearly about evertyhing related to Prince evry single day.

Sorry as well, if you have not noticed that never, ever at Prince concerts, there had been such drunken prats who don't give a shit about Prince and who know shit about music.

Maceo plays some great sax solo and they'out to get the liters of lager out of their system. So you call me sad fool. The only sad fools I see are these drunken whiny winghers who fill the arena every night.

I think the sad reality is that without these 'casual' listeners, the arena wouldn't be as full every night...I'm glad it's been full or damn near every one of the three shows I attended. It gives me a warm glow to see so many people there, albeit a large proportion aren't hardcore like us.

Prince is the big show in London right now - couples are going to the show rather than going to a restaurant or whatever, and probably don't know much beyond 'Kiss'..but just maybe they'll get an education inbetween their burger breaks, and Prince will reap the benefits.

On that note, I heard Purple Rain is no.8 in the album charts right now.

Here is hoping the 1 bar of when doves cry/SOTT etc etc is extended to full tracks over the full tour. Im attending the last two gigs as well as the 28th and a few more in between if i can get decent tickets last minute on ticketmaster (thank fuck i live in london).

Was a great show on Saturday. Ve ry sitmilar to th'e opening night. You can't beat the opening 5 tracks played tonight to really show off Prince's talents (and i just love my guitar - where was this track tonight!!!)
the guitar is the best instrument in the world!

How pathetic !

When Prince was more underground, most people at his concerts were the Miles Davis, JB, Sly, Stevie, Zappa, Hendrix, Santana, Funkadelic lovers.
I mean real music lovers who recognize good music whoever plays it.
These prats are lucky enough to listen to a legend like Maceo playing and they still go get a pint of fucking lager. I swear to God I have never seen such a poor attendance in my life and I have attended more than 500 gigs since the age of 14.

At Montreux, Cora was playing a fantastic drum solo only with her hands and you had these fat tourists shouting insults out loud. How sad and frustrating ! She was shocked.

Prince could play the best guitar solo ever at one of his 02 gigs, most of these people would not even notice.

in 30+ gigs over nearly 20 years this was 1 of the most pathetic waste of times i've seen.So they rehearsed 150+ songs yet P managed to waste 15 mins with 10 second pre programmed keyboard samples!. At this point lots of first time Prince goers started to leave! and I really can't blame them.

An arena show isn't about musical excellence, its about entertainment for the masses.

And its not pathetic for a casual fan at a Prince concert to expect Prince to perform the songs.

If i went to see the Foo Fighters and they played a 30 second tease of the 'Best of you' i'd be mightily pissed. ALL P fans have a perfect right to be upset, i love the hits as much as the obscure jazzier stuff, just wish he'd get focussed.

WTF are you saying "Prince concert to expect Prince to perform the songs"

Does Prince not come on the stage at all. All of you sound like a bunch of complaining bitches. I am starting to wonder if this is a generation problem or a brit problem.

P did a 6 month tour of the states in 2004 and don't remember this type of bullshit from the media or fans. You don't deserve him.
