Confessions of a Prince fan, part 1 I'm getting older.
I know this because, as is the case with most men, my looks keep improving. I also know this because back in 2002 something new happened at the Bataclan aftershow that promptly repeated itself at the Nighttown one... Halfway through the set my body started sending me a message. From my feet up into my spine, that message was loud and clear : get off your damn feet right now, you need rest! Fast forward a few years. I'm flying in for the Vegas experience. I arrive on a Friday morning, go to a show and aftershow that night and feel awesome all the way through. I wake up Saturday morning and find out I have half a voice left and my legs feel a bit wobbly. Still I spend that day visiting several places in Vegas, including a stroll along the strip. Prince puts on a really good show that night. Yet, at only 3 songs into the set, there is that message again. I struggle to stay on my feet for the rest of the show, being extremely grateful for the seats at the aftershow. It's 2007. I fly in for the London experience. As I'm spending most of my day at the O2 meeting fans from around the world, I receive a text message saying that 3121.com has a post up stating there will not be an aftershow that night. As if triggered by some weird Pavlov reaction, my whole body responds enthusiastically to this news. I feel HAPPY that Prince will not be wearing out my body tonight! But wouldn't you know it ... not only is there an artist called Beverly Knight that is putting on a rocking performance at the afterparty, she manages to get Prince out for what is the best late night performance I have seen since the late 80s. Dammit Prince, this is not what we agreed upon, my body starts saying. On Saturday I spend my day largely at the O2 again, talking with my fellow fans from everywhere. Almost everyone I talk to that day feels the same way... so here it is: Hello, my name is m3taverse and at late night performances, after every song I'm secretly hoping it's the last. Thankfully there was no late night performance at all on Saturday... "this especially prepared potato is called pomme de terre"

You're so funny, M3traverse... ! But I almost feel the same. I'm going 2 the 02 on saturday and I didn't get a ticket 4 the aftershow yet. Mi mind & soul wants absolutely 2 go there, but my body....we're getting older The check out time in the hotel is before noon, and flying back home with a lack of sleep is not good 4 my stomach. On monday I'll start 2 work again and I know, I will pay the whole week for this weekend when I'll go 2 the Indigo. Anyway, I think I just have 2 go 2 the aftershow I might get older but still not reasonable

I can totally relate to this.
At the London Marquee Club aftershow a few years back, I was really dead on my feet by the time Prince strolled on-stage. Dunno where he gets his energy from. Must be from only working a few hours a day For me, after hours of travelling, queueing, standing about, waiting, standing all through the show because everyone in front me of decided that their chairs were for decorative purposes only... by the time Prince started playing I was totally knackered. I loved it, but I was kinda glad when it was over. Didn't want to leave early, but my body had had enough. Now in 2007, I'm older, not as healthy as I once was, and I think I'm gonna struggle to stand for both the main show and the aftershow. I'm seriously tempted to sneak down to the car after the main show to catch a "power-nap" before the aftershow

This is a great thread - I totally agree.
I was not only exhausted but my marriage was under threat if Prince had played on Saturday at the Indigo2...what a relief. LOL T

These sorts of threads are only going to get more common as we all grow older. Mrs Gent had to go and sit down at the Indigo due to being worn out. She used to dance all night and into the wee hours. In fact I had to drag her out of a club in the old days.
Not that I'm saying I am still going strong at that point, far from it. At 4am that walk to the HIExpress seemed about ten times longer than it did at 1pm. The next day we tried to get up for breakfast but couldn't manage it. We got home about 3pm and slept to about 9. Doing it all again this Saturday but this time I decided it would be a good idea to drive home. Thinking about it, it might not be such a good plan afterall! RIP

Thankfully there was no late night performance at all on Saturday... Same feeling and thoughts here... back in the days it was no problem to attend 2 main shows after waiting all day outside to be at front of the stage and two aftershows (at the front line again) in one weekend. And between the main show and aftershow travel for over 100 km!!! The Netherlands may be a smal country but they have put Prince all over the place! Now my body was aching so much after 1 show and aftershow...and all it took was a walk of 5 minutes to go from one place to the other! I promised my body: one more time and than no more of this madness. [Edited 8/13/07 15:32pm]
