The show sounded great, although for the life of me, I cannot stand Beverley Knight.

Seen Prince 27 times now. 24 regular gigs and 3 aftershows.
Best gig was Lovesexy at Wembley (the first time is always special ) Best aftershow was The Emporium, 22nd March 1995 Overall I though it was a great night, even a "bad" Prince gig is better than most other artists on a good night. I don't rate his gigs alongside other performers, I rate them against previous Prince gigs. Therefore I reckon Arena show was 8/10 and Indigo was 9.5/10 based on the previously mentioned gigs getting 10/10

To be honest neither can I although I think it's Beverley we have to thank for getting him to put on such a great performance. I also think she's hot but that's besides the point

I was at the second night and it was absolutely amazing, I've been to over 350 gigs and this is by far the best I've ever seen. I was at the front, stage left by the podium. To have Prince stood in front of you ripping a solo on guitar is amazing. The best way to describe it: imagine being in a restaraunt and Prince jumps onto your table to play his guitar. He was THAT close! My other aftershow was the Forum after the Wembley Stadium gig. I was at the front again and he actually landed on top of me when he stage dived into the audience. As he got to his feet he just looked at me with that sideways smirk that he does. I was at the back at Indigo as I'm getting too old to be squashed down at the stage. The views were great at the back though, the club is so small you are never really far from the stage.

I could not belive my ears or eyes that night. The funk guitar, the guitar solos, Eric Leeds....I don't expect it to be surpassed. Though I think the forum one was good too right? Also went to Astoria, same tour and Chaka Khan and George benson joined him on satge...actually not so great, went to the one down in islington during ONA, , and the 3 minutes with Nikka Costa last week weekend.

I was next to the Arabic girl whom Prince got on stage to dance. She was good and gave Mayte something to worry about (Mayte was watching the show from the side of the stage/dancefloor). I think the guy who runs Madhouse was behind me (forget his name). And you're right, it will never be surpassed. Probably one of the best shows Prince has ever played, period. I never really bother with live boots but I just had to have this one. [Edited 8/12/07 14:20pm] [Edited 8/12/07 14:22pm]

I was there, I got a kiss of Shelby J during the show, touched Princes hand and had the time of my whole life. I am taking the memories of this show to the grave with me. http://www.goldiesparade.co.uk/ - Prince discography, tour history, news and more.

I was there and it kicked butt..but then my aftershow experience isn't exactly extensive.
The only benchmark I have is the opening night aftershow and The Garage in Glasgow on the Gold tour (he never once took off his shades, although Mayte provided ample compensation as she took loads off!!). For me, the riproaring version of 'Anotherloverholenyohead' on his guitar will stick with me - he looked possessed. "I'm much too hot to be cool"

Friday main show was not bad, but preferred a lot of the ONA shows because of the soundcheck beforehand and the intimacy of the venue.
The shows can be so different it is hard to compare. Lovesexy was my first (in wembley arena) and as a previous poster said...1st is special. Nude was great in Germany as you could get to the front by queuing (Kiel, Hamburg, Hamburg, Dortmund) Diamonds and Pearls was great show, but awful venue (Earls Court) Symbol (Meadowbank stadium was weird) Open air, bused driving past behind the stage...and in daylight...(met so many fans in that queue that I still see every year) Gold in Glasgow was beautifully lit and he seemed so energetic. Wembley, Brixton in 98 were pretty good but Cafe de Paris was very very special (see me catching the man in the green and blue top in the video) Aftershows: not seen that many: Garage in Glasgow in 95 (in shades all night...vicious on guitar, Hippodrome 98 - loose and relaxed, New Marquee 2002 - just plain funky....getting langebleu to the front in a mad dodge across london.... and 10.8.2007? My favourite too actually, because of the loose vibe...both bands being there, and having him fall on me (again...must look like a safe pair or hands....) But even aftershows where he does not play have memories....not getting in in Hamburg in 90 because my wife and i were in jeans and Zurich in 02, where I was sitting on the stage and he crept up from behind and grabbed my shoulders....what could ever replace that... Thus, I am also against all the moaners here....nothing is guaranteed, but there can always be surprises and they can be priceless.... Grant

Nice post Grant. I'm also mildly jealous. I was at Meadowbank too - I remember seeing he and Mayte sitting out on the grass embankment behind the stage, casual as you like! [Edited 8/12/07 15:24pm] "I'm much too hot to be cool"

But I preferred the first! well, I somehow missed the first one, and was gutted when I found out about the santana set as I was always heavily in to him too. If I'd been there then maybe I'd have concurred. Though, it would have needed to be something quite staggering.

[Edited 8/12/07 15:24pm] I was at Meadowbank and thought it was a good show although it was strange watching the show in daylight. Same thing with Wembley Stadium on the same tour. Probably the most gigs I've been to on a UK Prince tour, I think I went to every one. I remember the surprise extended encore at the NIA in Birmingham and almost getting into the Radio One broadcast. Got through the doors, past Gary Davies and into the theatre only to be ousted for not having a ticket. Sooooo close!!! One of his better tours imho as it was around this time that he started to relax a little with his fans and seemed to be having fun on stage.

It was an amazing gig! My first Prince gig, but hopefully not last. Best gig I've ever been too! A cracking set of songs and my seat was in an awesome position. Just wish I could make an another date on the tour!

SquirrelMeat said: YODAHENDRIX said: ...oh what a surprise, theres another thing u dont know. Eh!? I take you don't like me for some reason!? No on the contrary..I don't dislike u at all, takes 2 much energy 2 do that mate. We'd probably bump in2 each other at the 02 and have a drink in anticipation 4 the concert only thing is from the sound of it I'd be the only one expressing genuine excitement and not pent up cynicism about the night ahead. IF u are as disgruntled about these gigs as u have seemed 2 be over many threads e.g. The choice of song, seating arrangements, planning, lack of appearances at after shows, not liking his choice of wardrobe, that he wore a head scarf, he played piano sitting down,he played too much/too little of...blah blah blah, he should never start with purple rain etc etc then heres a suggestion...dont go. Channel your energies elsewhere...because seriously I saw a negative response on saturday...and it had nothing 2 do with Prince. 2 be honest there are many many more things 2 be highlighting here about the 02 concerts then about what Prince did or didnt do...try looking at many of the so-called audiences cold, boring, drunken, corny, violent, vicious and unappreciative behaviour during these extravaganzas...there are many fans around the world and in Britain itself that would make the most of the opportunity 2 see Prince. 2 put it 2 better use than many of the "Im only here 4 the hits! (which basically means Kiss, When Doves Cry and either Gett Off or Diamonds and pearls" crowd that I've seen at all of the gigs! So like I said mate... ...nothing personal. Luminous beings are we...not this crude matter.
