If P didn't have a little white in him, some people would not even be on this site.

lol ..unbelievable...the fact that he plays "guitar" or any other instrument and the way he plays it has nothing to do with his skin color or white people. I'm sure it was a personal choice of his when he made the decision to play it. Someone can teach you or you can teach yourself how to play an instrument but how you master your own style in the end is on the artist.

Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Richie Havens...all played guitar -- there was no "skin color" requirement and their personal decision to play it was not finalized by white folks. Just look beyond Prince's skin color and appreciate the fact that he mastered the instrument and just happens to be one of the "baddest " and "best" guitar players out there, point blank.

prince is a funny guy

and white people dancing is funny

even to me and i'm white

so if you can't laugh at yourself, you got a problem....not Prince

he is just taking advantage of a comedy moment

remember when he would make Chance Howard shake his booty during Musicology?

would you say he was making fun of overweight black people?

or making Wayne Brady sing "Play That Funky Music White Boy" in Vegas??

maybe this sense of humor comes off better in the U.S. and A.??

I remember he was mocking this girl at the MSG concert, not to spite her, but a comedic moment by dancing behind her and copying her steps and she wasn't white, it was a funny but cute moment and all in fun.

He did it to a few people on Tuesday, pissed my pants in all honesty

some people talk life too seriously speaking as a black person.

Shit happens, smile and get over it

P ain't no racist ask Renato and the twinz

but look forward to reading the newspapers soon when all the allegations start to fly based on this thread.

Wish some people would just keep their mouths shut or adhere to the old saying, Engage Brain before Mouth or fingers in this case.

If a black person got up on stage and couldn't dance he would be a whole lot worse

This thread scares me.

Also, if Prince makes fun of my dorky white boy dance moves, I may sob myself to sleep. Therefore anyone whose skin is lighter in colour than Prince's should attend all concerts blacked up like minstrels. It's the only way to be safe!

That is rude, whether you are joking or not. It's amazing how true colors are showing up all over these forums. Can't you guys just go to a show and not bring race into it? I mean is it really necessary for all these type of disrespectful remarks on these threads lately focusing more on race at a Prince concert, instead of appreciating the concert itself or is this a common thing among UK fans attending a Prince concert? I am surprised the mods let it go on this long.

I actually thought the people in the UK's outlook on race was way beyond that of the US, but with all these remarks on these threads lately, I guess I was wrong. Very sad, I wish you all the best for the remainder of the concerts and hope you can enjoy it while it lasts.

Peace

Prince likes to see people lose their cool. And us Brits have a reputation for being cool and reserved, so he's having a little laugh at us. That's great because we can take it.

It's okay, I'm allowed to make bad-taste jokes like that because of my cracker superiority complex. I'll be at the O2 next week, front-row centre, busting out my very best Billy Ray Cyrus moves and DARING Prince to start some shit. Say something Prince, bring it. I would LOVE IT.

Really 2elijah, if you can't poke fun at silly squabbles about racism and nonsensical racist ideas, you're the one with the issues...

Seriously though, anyone noticed that the guy that P references during "play that funky music" ("ive gotta do a song for him right there" - on Saturday night) is a plant as with the other dressed up girls, hes appeared on both shows ive been to!!

Hes probably a very good mover! but been briefed to dance like Carlton from the fresh prince.

P also shares some great banter with him on stage

hahaha. Just a bit of history for you :

gospel music, American religious musical form that owes much of its origin to the Christian conversion of West Africans enslaved in the American South. Gospel music partly evolved from the songs slaves sang on plantations, notably work songs, and from the Protestant hymns they sang in church. However, gospel music did not derive as much from Protestant hymns as did spirituals. Gospel music, more emotional and jubilant, also stemmed from the call-and-response singing between preacher and congregation, which became common in black churches. Gospel lyrics often call for obedience to God and avoidance of sin in order to obtain the reward of heaven's kingdom; they also celebrate God's love. Gospel style makes use of choral singing in unison or harmony, often, but not always, led by a lead singer or singers. The songs are performed with fervent enthusiasm, vigor, and spiritual inspiration, with much ornamentation in the solo vocal lines.

In the black culture of the first half of the 20th cent., gospel music was considered antithetical to blues and jazz, despite their similarity of origins, and gospel performers rarely sang in nonreligious settings. Later, as all three forms became popular outside the black community, they were less mutually exclusive. A strong gospel element underlies the “soul” jazz and rock music of the 1950s and 60s. Composer and pianist Thomas A. Dorsey, often referred to as “the father of the gospel song,” played a major role in the development of gospel music. Important gospel performers have included Mahalia Jackson, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Alex Bradford, James Cleveland, The Swan Silver Tones, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Dixie Hummingbirds, and The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi. Pop singers who have been heavily influenced by gospel include Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles. While the greatest era in gospel is widely considered to be c.1945–1965, the tradition and the music remain vital in contemporary culture. The Gospel Music Association rewards achievements in the genre with the annual Dove Awards.

It'd be worse if he looked right at you while singing "Avalanche".

Actually, it'd be bad if he looked right at you while single "Do Me Baby" too, but for different reasons. If you're a man. Who likes girls.

Remember the dude is ' Butterscotch ' not 'chocolate'... Lets not take a few tongue in cheek comments poking fun at a stereo type that Whites don't have as much rythum as Blacks and turn it into a race issue, I'm sure that its not true. You'll be telling me that Black guys are ' bigger' than whites guys next.
