Back in Hammersmith in 2002 we all had to surrender them when we went in for the soundcheck (although they probably weren't as popular back then.) As much as this would be a hassle, I would forego it if it created a better atmosphere for us and yer man.

But then the cameras piss off the audience, flash, flash. WHy are people incapable of turning off the flash?

With flash it works everytime, even if flash is not needed or even useless.

Just get a decent camera that works well for low light conditions without flash.

I, for one am so pissed off with having to watch gigs on the backs of peoples phones / cameras. Every gig I have been to over the past 18 months or so has been like this... It's really starting to put me off.
What is peoples obession with grabbing grainy, unaudible footage...?! Seems obsurd!
I saw the 4th Aug show... I was up in the rafters... When Prince played Purple Rain, my girl turned to me and said 'Oh look everybody has their lighters out'.
Which would have been quite nice...
But no... It was everybodies fucking camera phones!
I'm quite ashamed of this country so far with the gigs... With the cameras and reports of drunk peeps making fools of themselves / starting agro / whatever.
(I don't drink... So I guess it pisses me off a little more than it should? I don't know...)
Bottom line... Why the hell would you go to see a show only to make a very bad recording of it and then get so wasted that you can't remember it?

In my opinion there is nothing wrong about taking some pictures of the concert for personal use as long as they are taken without flash.
Prince is a public person and should get used to it instead of acting like a queen about it.

I might expand on this in a new thread once I figure out where to put it.

There's something interesting that happens with each and every tour.
Something always happens that makes fans go: why the fuck did that just happen.

The mechanism that follows is predictable and works something like this:

* there is the observation that Prince made a decision that we do not understand
* this decision, altho it was Prince's, is obviously not Prince's own choice
* so it must be something outside of Prince that caused it
* it's us fans that caused it!
* a minimum of 5 theories evolve around the concept of fans causing Prince to behave a certain way
* fans start policing other fans based on a theory based on a concept based on an assumption

This would make someone an excellent sociology paper, and it's all documented right here on the org.
Straight from my own memory I can think of at least 4 times we have had this exact same debate. A very typical one being Prince throwing off his guitar at the end of his second aftershow in Holland in 2002.
Prince threw away his guitar at the end, people didn't understand it, obviously Prince would normally never throw away his guitar so wtf happened, it must have been us fans, it must have been that one loud fan up front who was yelling "PRINCE PRINCE" all night, the person in question is named and gets a lot of shit, Prince posts a thingie on his website saying he enjoyed the show and threw off his guitar cos he felt that was a good way to end the show.

I was there in 2002, and I certainly did not surrender my camera-phone. I wasn't asked to, but I would refuse if I they had asked. You might have a case for confiscating cameras, but try parting people with their mobile phones and you've got a riot on your hands!
