DIfference between August and September shows

August: No Sundays, every Friday & Saturday.

Sept: All Sundays, but only 1 sat (1st) and 1 Friday (the last night,21st)

Also, September tickets look different (different picture) to August....

Anyone think he has a completely different set for september?

At least I found it strange that he has avoided weekends Sept 7,8,14,15,22 and chose to do lots of thursdays and sundays!

The real answer:

No-one expected such a response to P. The August shows were booked in, the September ones were added. Check and I think you'll see other big acts playing Fri and Sat in September. The original plan was about 6 - 8 dates at the O2 and some smaller shows around London.

The press conference announcement was for 21 nights in London.

The first dates announced covered 14 nights at the O2 before one ticket had been sold, and this ran up to September 13th. The remaining 7 nights announced in June had to be slotted around acts which had already been booked at the time the original dates were announced.

It seems likely that all 21 nights were booked at the O2 from the outset (with the 7 nights announced later perhaps only booked provisionally if the 14 nights simply didn't show signs of selling well).

However, by not announcing the later dates, the marketing campaign could focus on shifting the tickets for the 14 nights originally announced, stoking up demand with the press it was attracting. Claims that the first 14 nights had sold out within hours were patently untrue, but it created the idea that Prince was once again a hot ticket. The press that accompanied the Mail On Sunday's free 'Planet Earth' covermount must have helped.

I've never seen any evidence that there was a plan for over half the concerts to be performed at smaller venues, just people guessing at the outset that the remaining nights would perhaps not be concerts so much as smaller venue aftershows - but this was just speculation given that the venue of all 21 nights was not announced at the outest.

Initial O2 dates announced

August
Wednesday 1st
Friday 3rd
Saturday 4th
Tuesday 7th
Friday 10th
Saturday 11th
Tuesday 14th
Friday 17th
Saturday 18th

Friday 31st

September

Sunday 9th

O2 dates subsequently added in June:

August
Friday 24th
Saturday 25th

September
Thursday 6th
Sunday 16th
Thursday 20th
Friday 21st

you got it. Not "acts" exactly, but UFC (ultimate fight whatever) on Saturday 8th, and Turbo Tennis on Saturday 15th and with time needed to set up I guess it ruled out Fridays too. Sorry I missed that folks. It's frustrating though as seeing midweek gigs is a pain, and I certinaly won't be risking afetrshows except for Friday 21st.

Actually, the first release was 7 nights at the O2, not 14.

Original dates announced (at the press conference) were for August 1, 3, 4, 7, 10, 11 and 14.

Presumably the others were held in reserve. More were released the day the tickets went on sale, steadily.

I wonder if the plan was to play IndigO2 if the main arena didn't sell.
