Here's a handy hint for those of you who stand looking at the curtain for a number of hours...
On wednesday I was at the aftershow and knew he would be playing... His footpedals were at stage front-centre... His road crew were testing mics and instruments for about an hour... If there is no sign of these things, it's doubtful he'll be playing... So buy a drink and have a dance.... We ain't from Hollywood, so you know it's all good

never in my life have i felt so cheated as i did last nite at the aftershow.
let me start with the main show 3-8-07...he came on at 8.45pm and left at 10.50pm. then i headed 2 the indigo and the Q was massive and after all the time we were left waiting 2 get in we all waited around that black curtain listening 2 tracks over the speakers...then the crowd get a blues band who were okish...not really my thing sorry...if i wanted a blues band there r several london clubs where u get in FREE 2 hear them..... we all paid 2 get in there last night and we basically got screwed big time as we were given the impression that prince was gonna show,,,,even after the blues band had finished there gig... prince had his guitar on stage at the start,,,,then the crew came by in2 the blues band gig and took it away!!!!! F.cking sucks!!!!!.....we were screwed out of good money 4 the off chance that prince would show... there were several unhappy fans last night who wanted 2 speak 2 management and felt cheated...only 2 be told by security to complain 2 princes website!!!! the least they could have done was tell us that prince would not show and then we could have gone home early as my feet were killin me standing like a fool 4 hours.... its well 4 prince 2 show r not depending on his mood but us fans feel like we were robbed...im sorry but thats how i feel anyway.... next time prince does a tour im just going 2 1 show as i have spent nearly 4 grand on this 02 run....im going 2 the main show today the 4th and 2 be honest im glad i didnt buy a ticket 4 the aftershow 2nite as im jetting off back 2 ireland after the main gig and will return on tues 7th...i have MUG tattoed over my forehead when it comes 2 prince. I thought Dr John and his band were INCREDIBLE! My mate was a bit upset that P didn't play and I can imagine quite a few fans will be cheesed off today. To be honest, I had asuch an amazing time at Wednesday night's Aftershow - and I was so impressed with Dr John - thst I really don't mind that Prince didn't perform. However... if I had travelled all the way to London - or especially from abroad - and that was the only one I could attend, I think I'd be pretty pissed off. I was speaking to a couple of ladies in the queue and, even though they had tickets, they were debating whether to go or not; the fact that theere was no guarantee Prince would show and they had to get back to central London was putting them off. Prince was in *such* a good mood at the gig, I was convinced he'd play so I convinced them to stay - sorry, girls. In that respect, I do think it doesn't really take people's circumstances into account. . [Edited 8/4/07 3:13am]

Ok so - I went .. so here's my perspective
We stuck it out to the BITTER end - literally when they kicked us out .. by which point most people had left .. and there's was human carnage ! .. drunk people staggering around - loads of people asleep on the floors. Was actually quite funny - 'cos all night (at the aftershow) there had been a general excited whisper of 'when's he coming out' .. but by 3.30.. people were still muttering it face down on the dancefloor ! lol ..and staggering to the boat they were saying - what if he's just come out?? - LOL. I KNOW it's going to be a really unpopular opinion - but I think it's SO funny - and I was there and I paid for tickets - but it's SO Prince .. he's like 'Mah - I may go' .. I ACTUALLY think that he may have been in a strop about the fact that there was some harsh boo-ing in the main show when he didn't do as many encore's .. look what've created now by doing that on weds night ! And I actually felt sorry for Doc John - you know great Blues band .. BUT not what the people wanted .. I kept thinking any second now - a heel is gonna fly at that guy's head ! .. and knock him off that Keyboard. And actually what really cracked us up - was towards the end of their set - everytime thy finished people clapped and cheered thining the P man was coming out - and so Doc J and the band are like ' ooo they love us lets do another' Crowd : 'GROAN' 'we want prince' LOL LOL LOL I also thought it was a very sensible move for his personal safety when at the end he said something along the lines of thanks to P for having us up here before he comes out to entertain you people 'CHEERS' LOL Oh and also - one other thing - when that girl crawled across the stage and put her head under the curtain to look what was going on - then turns around to he crowd and puts her hands in the air as if to say 'I don't know' .. how dopey are security that they didn't see her until she'd done it ! it was funny though! I had a great nite at the concert - see my oher post in '2nd night' My afterparty - is next Saturday night concert .. and aftershow ! YAY He was right - a new name does feel mighty fine....now for some fun - MWA HA HA HA

I can't understand these people who say it's hit and miss, and there are no guarantees he'll turn up. At the end of the day, the entry fees alone to the indigo are £50k per night. This is a big revenue, and can generally get you in to some class acts around the country. It can't go on as a will he won't he. It leaves a bad taste. One or the other, he turns up for every one, or he doesn't. People are spending a fortune by staying over in London etc, missing there last trains back up north based on this,

Why doesn´t Prince simply announce at the end of the main show if he will perform at the aftershow or not? He must know it by then and this would make things a little less unfair towards people who have to get their trains or have to pay for staying an extra night in London just for the show.

I did not go to either wednesday or friday's aftershow but I am going tonight. I was surprised he did not play yesterday as he finished the main set earlier, played less overall and seemed in a guitar playing mood. I am going tonight and an old friend is coming to join me from prague so if prince does not show it will be disappointing,
Things is we're all a lot older, and we have less tolerance, physically and emotionally to wasting time standing watching a black curtain. in previous years you would only go if you really had the energy to do so and if the rumours of him playing were strong whereas now you pre-book weeks before and you have no choice but to go or lose £25 plus you find yourself stuck in greenwich at 3am which is awkward in itself.

We're going on the 28th.
I could live without Prince playing, but I did presume the live music was his band - or it least some of, perhaps with other guest like Candy. So would be a bit disappointed = if it was Dr John, who I've never heard of, and not sure exactly of his connection with Prince. It's kinda be like paying another £25 to see the support band after the main show.

Hang on, THE Dr John?! That's what I thought... I cannot believe some folks on here have not heard of him. The guy is a legend and I would be happy to watch him if P couldn't make it to the aftershow. I think a little perspective is needed otherwise there's gonna be people posting hissyfits on this site whenever P doesn't do an extra encore or fails to show at Indigo. Be happy that he's over here and performing all these shows, all at a good value price. It's been 5 years since he last toured here so stop complaining and just enjoy it while you can. In 12 months time you'll be on here posting threads asking "When is Prince gonna tour the UK again".

I doesn't matter if he gets the queen to appear, let alone Dr John. the paying public bought Prince tickets. The "Be happy he is here" attitude from some fans is the entire reason he gets away with screwing people over time and time again. .

Its hardly suprising there will be people letting off some steam. You may have decided that Prince shouldn't have to perform, but there seems a damn sight more people who think he should have. A lot of these people paid good money for a "concert" ticket at the indigo2, not a disco. Prince's aftershows are fabled. I know casual fans who have booked tickets becasue they believe that the intimate gig will be better than the main one. How do you think they will feel after booking a ticket and hotel room like last night? Unless you are trying to cause aggro, it seems a odd place to try and tell everybody they should know what to expect and to stop moaning, even when the wording of the sale agrees with them and not you? .

Don't know if this has been mentioned but Prince actually did come to the aftershow last night. I was in the first row and during the second of Dr.John's songs he came up the sidestairs and was standing near the stage in a very sharp black outfit. He hung around for a few minutes, chatted to his tech and walked off. The tech switched off his amplifier and at the end of the song removed the guitar and microphone.
Being the eternal optimist I hung around till the end and was mightily pissed off. They should have announced a no show as soon as they knew! I left the place at 0345 and was waiting for a taxi until around 0530. A lot of people who aren't major Prince fans but came on our advice were very annoyed and I doubt they'd bother coming again. Also the main show was a bit short for my liking, he came on and 2045 and stretched it out to 2245. The ONA concerts were at least 3 hours! Not overly impressed so far!

That was the GOOD sign. The BAD sign came when The amplifier was turned off, the guitar unplugged then the footpedals removed. Prince did show. He was stood on the left in the shadows wearing a black hat and jacket. He musn't have felt the groove that night. Totally gutted as this would have been my first aftershow! Would have perferred to relax and dance if we had known. Instead being squashed was not the best experience. P.S. What is it with these people wearing ear plugs? Do they not want to hear Prince play? Just watch him? Wierd! http://www.myspace.com/savage1999uk

It still amazes me how these people don't do gigs as they 'don't feel the groove'. It's amazing how they forget where they all started, who bought every single one of there albums, saw every tour, ..... To then stand next to a stage full of fans, to simply 'not be arsed' to perform for 10 mins is out of order. It would have been better if he'd have not shown up to the indigo at all.

I was gutted, esp as i took a friend and shed never seen P before, and i had hyped up the possible 45 mins he could have done.
The numbers gradually dwindled after 2.30 and esp after Dr John finished and the PA system had been significantly turned down - Sign of the times was playing. My feeling was that the bar made a lot of money and i felt for FANS who had shelld out for the VIP - there was one guy with a musicology t-shirt on with St Paul Minneapolis on the back of it, really hope he hadnt come over from the U.S.. I have a ticket for next week and i hope he makes up for it, but this has been a def low point as not even the band turned up - repect to Mr Hayes who various ppl say came in and spoke to ppl. I dont mean no disrespect to Dr John but after first 6 tracks i was thinking "a lot of this sounds the same", and we had paid for a Prince aftershow - there was little or no relevance of them playin there. They also gave ppl the false impression that Pince was gonna turn up as they blazed through P.E. after Dr John had finished saying "he needs to make room for Prince to do hes thing" Im sure the spare Yamaha up there was Renatos set up!!! We spoke to the security guard, one of many with the earpieces on, and they said that as a gereral rule Prince will be on 15 min or so after the support (in this case main act) act comes off - like wednesday, but it never happened. He was apologetic, but at the same time said that the mans got 21 nights to play and that as far as they were concerned he was coming on - the amount of security in the place backed this up i think. In all a real let down
