absolute shambles

Please accept my appologies if this has already been posted.

What a concert, absolutely fantastic in every way but was spoilt by those idiots @ ticketmaster.

I purchased 3 x VIP tickets @ 235.00 each and ended up being seated in block 102, row c, great seats by the way.

But what really pissed me off is that i caught security guards and box office members @ the O2 handing out gold circle seating tickets to various people who had got top tier tickets.
They were just offering them to them for nothing.

Obviousely these seats hadn't sold (VIP seats) and whilst this was great for the lucky concert goers i ended up with at least 8 x people in the row in front of me who had paid 31.21 and got upper tier tickets.

An absoute joke!

I can see why they would give seats away to people as Prince would not want to look out and see lots of empty seats near to the stage. BUT priority should be given to those who paid lots of money for the 'VIP' treatment.

That's a really insensitive and thoughtless reply. Many of us have spent much hard earned money on VIP tickets and in my case money I can barely afford to pay back off on my credit card. Is it fair that those fans who were keen enough to spend the extra money and buy early VIP tickets should now feel "ripped off" and "rubber dicked" by the Prince commercial empire or AEG or Ticketmaster or whoever...?

You have no idea how hard the people who paid £31.21 might have worked to earn that money. Not everybody can afford £200+ for a concert ticket. I sure as hell can't. Couldn't even dream of it, in fact. The opening post of this thread was mean-spirited.

No, listen. How about the guy who can afford three (three!) £235 tickets welcomes the other fans, chats to them, congratulates them on their good luck, enjoys the show shoulder-to-shoulder with them, rather than getting annoyed that the peasants have infiltrated his aristocratic enclave and bitching about it on the internet? Jeez. Someone back me up here.

No it wasn't. It was a gripe at the organisers practically giving away what many of us paid a lot of money for. How would you have felt if everyone else in your row was "given" their tickets on the night for £0.31p...?

Cue some random illogical poorly argued reply.

I can see why it'd be annoying, but really - what are the choices, given that there are spare seats on the night?

1. Leave them empty.
2. Let other people sit in them at no extra charge.
3. Let other people sit in them for £200.

What you gonna do?

I'd go for B. personally.

And I'd certainly not call it a shambles - it's not TMs fault they didn't shift all the £230 VIP tickets.

I see your point, but I do sympathise with some of the VIPs. Just because they bought £235 quid tickets, doesn't mean they are rolling in it. In fact, some people I know when out on a limb borrowing to get VIP, only now to find they were shafted by AEG.

I think Chris is annoyed with the promoters not other fans.

Willy Wonka didn't sell golden tickets for £235 prior to giving them away did he?

Sensible post and I think that sums up it well.
However, I feel people can certainly complain at the value for money of the VIP deal. I would NOT do it again purely on the value for money basis nothing to do with affordability, and when I heard Michael Jackson being played by the DJ on the boat I almost jumped overboard.

Either way, what's the problem here? Chris still got what he paid for! Nobody kicked him out of his seat to make way for someone else. Meanwhile, a handful of other people got lucky, and he begrudges it. Wow, nice.

a random illogical poorly argued reply, earlier today :

I'd be happy that the seats hadn't gone to waste.

I'd be happy that they were filled rather than left empty, and had some people and an atmosphere around me, rather than loads of empty seats.

I wouldn't be pissed off *just because* someone had gotten a better deal than me.

Maybe at some random point in the future, I'll be the one getting a good deal sometime, somewhere.

Actually, thinking about it,they should have moved all the VIPS forward then all those with the £31.21 tixs sat behind them. I think i'd feel pretty annoyed if I'd payed £200+ to be honest.

I understand ur issue... But some guys got lucky and well done...
I paid VIP tix... Good seats 103 block ROW C Excellent view... But VIP Bar/Lounge Drinks and finger buffet a waste!
There was Nothing VIP about it... The only thing that got fingered were the punters...
Queued ages to get into VIP - Reasonable excuse given in view of how the bar overlooks the stage... They couldn't let us in... as Prince was doing final sound checks... and i guess that would have caused 'chaos and disorder' if the VIP crowd saw and heard prince on stage doing his final preps.
Hiccups happen but that was NOT value for MONEY...

As we queued for ages the bar was packed with waiting 30 -45 minutes to get served... Not enough bar stewards...

...'cuz money don't matter 2nite...

Perhaps it demonstrates what a farce the whole "VIP" crap really is. I'm VIP and aftershow tomorrow with my wife and the whole trip is costing more than a typical family holiday yet it's just one night away with the kids off loaded with Grandma. I guess my gripe is that I feel duped into paying over the odds for the "VIP" experience when in reality people who paid a lot less will have just as good an experience as me. Perhaps if for the £235 per ticket we got a little goodie bag with a bottle of 3121 and a souvenir programme or something then I wouldn't feel so guilty at spending all that money.

I'm angry with myself and the organisers not other concert attendees and certainly not you.

On that one I'll agree with you completely. Not sure when it started, but I distinctly remember the Gold Circle thing at Live 8 - a total nonsense with liggers and z-listers ambling in far too much space, whilst the real fans are miles back.

And I'd agree that the way in which seats are released in batches, claiming to be sold out, and leaving people with the apparent choice of VIP seats or no seats is verging on fraud and extortion.

But by the time of the show, that's all water under the bridge and I wouldn't begrudge seats being filled by people with upper tier tickets.

Bit harsh surely?

I know I'd have been pissed off if I'd spent that amount of money and had others in front of me who had been given them for nothing.

Fair play to those who did get them though, its not as though anyone on here would have turned them down now is it?
