One Nite at the Dome: My Review

Went to yesterdays' concert, very impressive. You probably all know the set list but heres a sum up of things:

- The View was very good, I was on Level 4 Upper Tier looking down. The stage looked very impressive and it was great when it was all lit up with different colours and Prince appeared from below the stage in a pall of smoke and also went back down between sets.

- The show opened with Purple Rain - Prince was strutting around very confidently. It was fun when he asked 'London, so..did you miss me?'.

Highlights for me were his performance of Black Sweat - hadnt heard this live before and sounds much better than the original, and Pink Cashmere - this is one of my favs and a good choice - he played it for quite a while and linked it to another song. He also did Nothing Compares 2 U which was great to hear. It was also good to hear Cream.
He played Shhh! near the beginning and it was interesting to see he hasnt stopped playing his saucier songs.

From the new album I recall he played Somewhere Here on Earth, Guitar and Planet Earth -both good. He also said some of the lyrics for The One U Wanna C but didnt do the full song.

At one stage some dancers got onto the stage from the audience and he got some of them to sing to the mic - one girl was off key and it was hilarious to see his disgusted/shocked look (im sure it was in jest).

The final encores were great - i did hang on as I know from the past he doesnt usually finish without one but started walking, Most people were filing out when there were screams and I looked round to see that he was making his way across the audience with a few minders. He then did an acoustic set of Raspberry Beret and Little Red Corvette - although he kept stopping and pointed at someone in the audience and waved his finger in a circle as if to say Crazy to someone - think they suggested he played a racier number - not sure.
He also did Sometimes It Snows in April - by this time nearly 1/3 had already left not realising he was doing an encore.
There was a rendition of Get On The Boat near the end which was lively and fun.

Overall a great experience - looking forward to seeing him again Fri and Sat.

What would be cool:
Full version of The One U Wanna C
Full version of U Got The Look (he played it but not the dramatic finale)
Feel U Up - always wanted to hear him play this live but maybe its too racy now.

Overall Prince looked confident and youthful and seemed to have fun. I felt the flow was quite free - he wasnt really sticking to a strict schedule of songs it seemed which can be good and bad as sometimes it could ramble a bit.
The joke about having more hits than Madonna has kids was funny and at one point he pretended to look at his watch and said - Time for mo' hits.
No support act played - P started promptly at 8.30 and finished pretty much on the dot at 11.00 including encores.
Some people on my row ended up having a fight, but luckily security was called and they were separated - although the incident unnerved some other concert goers.

Overall, good fun. Advice for concert goers: most of the eateries outside the arena in the 02 were full or very busy, yet there were lots of burger/fish and chip type bars once inside the arena gates so may be worth eating there instead (although think you need to carry it). I had already eaten before though!
Getting back at 11.30 was ok - a queue to get into the terminal but once inside tubes ok.
Oh - and curiously, when I got to my hotel guess which room I had been allocated - 319! No joke!!
