I wasn't expecting Prince to play every night at an aftershow but I was expecting live music. I seem to remember that when first advertised, the aftershows were described as having the focus on the band with Prince possibly joining in some times. He might just play guitar, he might sing or whatever.

I wish I could find the announcement that said this.

But at the end of the day, surely we all knew it was a gamble? I mean, it's Prince after all. I've got first night and last night aftershows and am not going to the main shows, so I hope he does something, espevially on the last night. If he doesn't though, that's just the way it is. Sure I'll be fed up but what can you do? It's only sold as an aftershow event.
RIP sad

slaphead

Jam AEG's e-mail box with complaints both about this & the fiasco over tickets for the main show. http://www.aeglive.co.uk/contactus.php

I've just noticed that on the AEG website under the tour section the aftershows are billed as: Prince 3121 @ Indigo After Show

it was listed as an aftershow, not an aftershow party, not an aftershow concert, but on the 3121 mailout it said aftershow party

normally when artists refer to an aftershow they mean a party that happens after the show, prince is the only artist that i can think of that performs aftershow concerts on a regular basis

most aftershows are just parties with a dj, but in some cases such as justin timberlakes, another artist performs instead, which was timberland in JT's case, although JT is one of the few other artists that does do aftershow concerts from time to time

this is one of the cases where TM and AEG haven't actually mislead anyone or broken any laws, it's just fans that expect an aftershow concert unrealistically every nite over a 21 nite stretch

personally i do expect something similar to the vegas shows, where the band play jazz after the show, and prince will maybe play a bit, but not sing much to save his voice, but with a larger venue and stretch of 21 nites, i wouldn't be surprised if he performed more of a classic aftershow, and i imagine some nites he won't be in the mood to play, and it will just be a dj spinning, and on other nites it might be a "special guest" that plays, like the celly shows, with prince maybe guesting on a song or two. thus mavis staples, chaka khan, nikka costa, that kind of thing

in this case, its just up to how prince feels as to what happens on the nite

the shows were never advertised as such. that was a press release, it doesn't fall under the same rules that apply to advertising. but they said the npg would play each nite and prince may join them from time to time, which is just what happened in vegas. i think it covers them if prince isn't in the mood to do anything, or his voice starts to go. if people thought it was a prince aftershow concert then they would expect him to be singing most of the songs, and people would be upset if they then found that shelby or the twins did most of the vocals and the rest was instrumentals

Something similar to what he did at 3121 Las Vegas would be fine. I wouldn't have a problem with that. But I do want some kind of live performance EVERY night at the Indigo.

i want the moon on a stick, and to take the twins home, but i'm not expecting it to happen

if your expectations are set so high, you are only heading for dissapointment. everything else so far has been a shambles, so you can only expect the same for the aftershows. just remember what happened the last time he toured the uk

No, I'm firmly on the dance floor for the First night, last night and Sunday 9th! I sold the rest on.

As for the main show. I convinced myself that 5 shows would be enough. Then, with various panics at ticket launches I ended up getting more. Before I new it, I was treating it like a sticker album. I had to collect them all! biggrin

I might pass on a few. Depends how good the set is.

I'm expecting the worst for the aftershows. One big con. I hope I'm wrong. I raised the issue of the balcony seats because there will be a lot of annoyed public the way this is being handled!

I think when Ticket Master sell a ticket listed in the "Rock/pop" concert section, under - Prince - Offical Aftershow, the public have the right to expect a SHOW.

What shows are you going to? Is the Shapeshifter going to to throw some shapes of his own? biggrin

I think if they'd put that 3121 quote out when you were about to buy the tickets, I think A LOT of us might not have bought, or bought so many. This will be a proper sham as his name is on the ticket 'Prince - the official aftershow', if he isn't gonna be there, then it might as well say James Blunt!

I am definitely up for moaning about this, I can't afford £35 just to see a dj, that sucks!

Prince is a proper veteran, all this 'saving his voice' and no live music every night after the main gig is rubbish. He IS music, he has the go, it's just he might make more money sitting in his batcave then playing for us, like we ALL thought he would.

if he's a lawyer he will know that TM didn't do anything illegal, so he will know he's wasting his time, and being a lawyer that time is very valuable

The term "illegal is a bit severe. There is a very strong likelyhood that TM are in breach of Trading standards with the aftershows, obviously this depends on Prince's performance.

I think there is a very good chance, if Prince doesn't turn up, that someone could claim mis-representation in the selling of the tickets.

Even if Prince just breezes through the room, or jams on one track, then there is also room for arguement. If O2/AEG/Prince were to claim no refund could be given because Prince made an appearance, it is still within someones rights to challenge that.

If they argue that no performance was promised, then based on how the tickets were sold, there is a good chance of misrepresentation.

TM are selling and still listing the event as a "Concert". So it is offering tickets to a "concert" by "Prince". Within that context, a customer can expect their usual statutory rights to apply; that they can expect a service of ‘satisfactory quality’, that is ‘as described’ and they are fit for their purpose. If your purchase fails on any of these counts, you have the right to demand your money back from the seller.

the law u refer to is the sale of goods act 1994, you can find it on the dti website, read it, and you'll see for yourself there are no laws broken

they aren't listing it as a concert, and the rest of what you have typed isn't relevant in this case. the particular issue would have been if the goods provided differed from the description at point of sale, however as the description doesn't mention what you get at the aftershow, you wouldn't have any right to a refund if prince didn't turn up or even if there wasn't a live show under those terms. the lawyer should be able to confirm that's correct

Official Aftershow Parties
After each gig in London, walk over 2 the indigO2 (which will be renamed 3121 of course) 4 the official aftershow parties. This will be the white hot place 2 hang 4 those still in need of some serious grooves. Prince and the band are not guaranteed 2 per4m, but as we all know with these cats - xpect the unexpected.

I agree £25 is a lot to pay for no live music at all... but I don't think it'll come to that. Will Prince play? Will it even be the band? Who knows. That's half the fun.

What did Eileen used to say? Expect nothing and you might get a nice surprise. Expect something and there's a good chance you'll be disappointed.

I have tickets on a couple of nights, and my plan is to hang out with my friends, chat about the gig and have a laugh. Any more than that is a bonus - what happens happens. What I don't really want to do is stand in a room with hundreds of sad-looking Prince fans staring at an empty stage for three hours, all afraid to look anyone in the eye and communicate with them in case they miss seeing their hero walking to the bathroom. I've been there before thanks. Doesn't make for a good night out.

I really can't see the fun in expensive mis-selling of an event or events.

Would that be the same Eileen that used to run Controversy way back who used to make sure her 'favourites' always got the best seats?

The bottom line is that we're all idiots for paying 25 quid for something we know not what. If Prince performs at the aftershow parties I'll be delighted, but I dare not get my expectations too high in case we end up being disappointed. Like the rest of you, I won't be too happy if it turns out that we were sold tickets to a DJ set for 25 pounds... it is my own dumb fault of course for handing over money with so little information, but let's be honest - Prince is known for his aftershow performances for fans so selling tickets to such an event is pretty misleading.

One other thing: I hope they make it clear whether or not Prince is performing at these shows. I can live with it if he isn't but I'm not sitting through hours of a bloody DJ spinning discs on the mere slightest chance Prince will show up. Really, this sort of thing needs to be clarified by Prince's people.

I think the difference between selling it as an afterSHOW than an afterPARTY is huge. I totally expect a performance based on the "invitation to treat" (legal term) being afterSHOW being used in the discription by Ticketmaster to sell this event. False pretences come to mind.

Just to add a different slant on all this aftershow stuff.... i'm going to 2 shows, 1 lower tier, 1 VIP (no idea where the seat is yet) and the aftershow after VIP ticket.... I've been lucky enough to see Prince at least twice on all his european tours he's done since 1986, now on tours I've seen you can count on Prince playing for about 2-3 hours, some with intervals like Lovesexy etc, how would everyone feel if Prince played the main show for say 75mins in the O2, then did 30 mins at the aftershow at 2:30am ??? if ya at the aftershow you'd probably settle for that, but the main gig would suck abit for 18,000 people not at the aftershow when Prince was saving himself for the aftershow performance..... if he did something like that he'd be covered on what they were selling, but the fans wouldn't be happy .....

I'm sure AEG have some sort of agreement with Prince's people for performances, probably on a percentage of nights .... but 21 gigs and 21 aftershows is allot to ask .... he aint young no more .... should rename it the 'Horlicks aftershow'

well you might expect that, but a court might see it another way. it's an AFTERSHOW event. bon jovi had aftershows, and they didn't play, god knows what happened at those shows, people paid £25 but no-one complained. after the justin timberlake shows, he had aftershows and timberland played (but not JT)

you say afterSHOW, but a show can be defined as all sorts of things, a SHOW isn't necesarily a concert or performance if going by your train of thought

in order to obtain a late alcohol license, which is usually called an "entertainment licence" you have to put on "entertainment", of which a dj is classified as entertainment, whereas a jukebox isn't, so a dj under legal terms can be classified as entertainment, and possibly even a show or performance
