Pre concert meet ups

Okay guys - there are lots of people asking others if there's going to be a meet up for orgers before the concerts.

Is anyone local enough to know what's around the o2 arena that can house a large bunch of freaks like us every night? biggrin

I'm not familiar with the area at all, but I'm sure there must be a boozer nearby where we can all meet to get hyped together.

Any suggestions? Just keep it to the one same place before each gig so it's simple to find?

Hey Helen....was going to make a similar post myself.

The O2 itself has about 15 bars and restuarents in it of varying type. There's a Zizzi's, Frankie and Bennys, places like that....on the bar front there's a nice place called Raan, another bar called Urban Inc, and the Slug & Lettuce which is your typical boozer I imagine.

Haven't been up there myself but I hear from friends who have been there that the O2 is very much an all in one sort of place, with enough places to suit all sorts of tastes. And you can get in there even if you don't have tickets for a show.

Be nice to get together with some fellow Orgers; the Missus and I are up for a gathering.

I live v local and would recommend actually meeting in Greenwich town centre rather than at the O2. Greenwich has LOTS of pubs, most with big gardens (if the weathers good) so it will be easier to get a spot and get served.

The Gipsy Moth, The Trafalgar, Kings Arms, Greenwich Park Bar & Grill, The Mitre and the Coach & Horses being some of the best. But there are loads more.

From Greenwich town centre you can jump a bus to the dome which is about a 10 minute ride away.

Or if you're travelling in on the Jubilee Line get off at Canary Wharf as there are lots of bars n pubs there too - All Bar One, Wetherspoons....

I've been to the O2 to see Snow Patrol and unless you get there early you'll be queuing big time. Not all the bars and restaurants are open yet so there's lots of people trying to get into what is open.

Thanks for the tips Funky...might pay a trip up to Greenwich before hand to check it out as we're only down in Kent, so not far away.

What did you mate say the O2 arena itself was like as a concert venue?

Thanks for this guys. And for the tips about getting into the o2!

We should make a decision on one place though to make sure peeps arriving alone can walk into somewhere confidently knowing the place is full of likeminded freaks lol

I've mentioned in another thread (tho can't remember which) that the O2 is the best venue of it's type/size i have been to. The seating is superb and the sound excellent. The facilities are also top drawer. Prices were not too bad when i went, considering. And the places outside the arena are also very good. It's a bit like Bluewater but with just bars and eateries rather than shops.

The only thing i found that was because there are still lots of places yet to open it was a bit crowded.

Yeah, I got that impression to, from looking at all the stuff on the O2 website....same sort of circular layout. Least they've found a decent use for the old Dome though!! I'm looking forward to seeing how it stacks up to the re-done Wembley Arena.

From what i experienced when i went to Wembley Arena there's no contest - the O2 wins hands down.

Be interesting to hear what others think though.

That's good to hear! I'm looking forward to it even more now. Mind you, I expect alot of it is to do with how good the show you go to see is and how decent your seats are. Last show we went to wsa Madonna's Confessions Tour last summer at the Arena...it was amazing!! Prince will have to go some to top that, but I'm sure he can pull it out the bag.

you are right FunkyAphrodite, wembley does have shops in the arena complex but I'm sure its nothing as good as the 02.

thanks for the link DavidT I think the 'Watermargin' at unit no 23 at the 02 looks nice for a meet-up http://www.watermargin.co.uk/

No probs....see what you mean about the Watermargin, looks quite tasty. Very glam to, which lets face it, is what you want when going to a Prince gig surely!! biggrin £2.80 a pint to, not too bad! The missus and I are staying at the Holiday Inn Express just a stones throw from the O2 so we're thinking of grabbing a bite to eat somewhere to. Jimmy Monaco's sounds nice...we're both suckers for a good American diner! smile
