London Aftershows or Aftershow Parties?

What's the deal? Is Prince pergorming at these aftershows or just putting up an 'appearance', like the Glam Slam at the Astoria back in the day?

Sure, he did. But he also threw 'parties'. I am not a BIG fan, I got a Future Baby Mama doing all the hard work, like getting me newspapers on sunday, hotels and tickets (PS I heart U), but I was curious how these aftershows were promoted, as SHOWS or as PARTIES?

They were originally promoted as performances with the focus on the band. I got the impression that Prince may or may not appear depending on whether or not he can be bothered.

what happened to the good old days of desperately chasing round london on tips and gossip trying to work out where the aftershow will be held. It just doesn't feel right buying aftershow tickets from ticketmaster weeks in advance.

I agree with you Herbal...I was hoping for the same chase around London / ear to the ground thing to find any aftershows, knowing that when I found it, it would be with a bunch of hardcore fans and feel like a magic private party....the Indigo2 thing on the other hand....tix being bought to sell on Ebay, who knows if/when Prince will be performing as they're on every night etc...not quite the same is it...oh well, shoudn't grumble too much...he's here for 2 months!!

It's not the same, but would you rather :

a. guaranteed entry to a show with such a small audience, nmost likely with mostly bigger fans. (they mostly haven't been selling out, which is crazy as there are only 2,000 odd tickets for each)

or b. take your chances hotfooting it across London, and having to be very lucky to both find the show, and get in?

I'm more than happy to nip over to the Indigo! biggrin

In my older age I'm more than happy to be able to book in advance. I just hope he plays.

OK - I emailed Indigo earlier, asking :

I just wonder if you have any more information about the Prince aftershows in the Indig02?

Are they :

A. Just a party, with a DJ, and no live music?

B. A party with some live music, most likely performed by Prince's band, with Prince likely, but not guaranteed to turn up and play for at least some of that performance?

And got the reply :

B is the answer

Are you crazy? Most of us old fans LOVE ticketmaster! It means we can just get our rollator there in time.

Are you seriously happy with that answer? (Not blaming Ticketmaster as the question leaves it wide open for ambiguity still).
How about Live music A) with Prince or B) without Prince. Now if we got an answer to THAT choice I'd be happier.

Pretty much, given the circumstances.

Seeing as there's been debate on the forums as to whether there would even be any live music, and the suggestion that it could literally just be a party with a DJ and no live music, I'm pretty glad to know it isn't just that.

I don't think we're likely to get any cast iron guarantees that Prince will play each night - but if the set up is that the band will be playing, it's pretty likely Prince will put in an appearance most, if not all, nights.

We're not going til the 28th, so half the fun is going to be watching on the forums how each night pans out.

(Although yes, I'll be a lot happier with a two hour set with Prince than I would be with a 30 minute jam by the band. razz

Lets put it this way. If P doesn't put in a performance, then I'm getting a refund. It was sold as an offical aftershow, not an afterparty.

Yeah man, it said very clearly it was an "official afterSHOW" on the Ticketmaster page. Nothing about afterPARTY.

However, See Tickets are billing it as an "aftershow party".

Are we to be so gratefull that there might be live music which might be Prince's band which might include Prince?

Just tell us what the fuck it is!!!!

Describing it as an aftershow doesn't imply that it is a show, just that it comes after a show. It could be an aftershow anything, so I don't see any wrongdoing if it is just a party, I'm certainly not expecting to see a Prince performance and look on that as a nice possibility that I can't pass the chance of.

I know - I'm only joshing. smile

I think 'band playing, with Prince more than likely turning up' is what most would imagine, but thought I'd see what O2 had to say, seeing as some were speculating that it might just be a party and not even have any live music.

Roll on 1 Aug so we can start to find out what goes down...

That's right, the band will be playing and prince might join in if he can be bothered from time to time.

I thought this was almost standard practice - I am told this used to happen all the time at Paisley Park studios too. In fact, I have some live recordings where he asks the audience 'who was at the show tonight?' - so I would be well bummeb if he doesn't show up at the aftershow concerts!!
BTW - I guess we should keep an eye out on the Koko website for any last minute arrangements? Any other venues that may be considered by the man?
