Does anyone in the UK outside of NPGMC or the org know that P is coming?

I have been scanning the airwaves and entertainment news channels for days and not a single mention of the P tour. The UK used to be passionate about P and yet its as if no-one give a ***. If Madge was playing a small gig in London village the whole world would know about it. For god's sake, Moby is playing the Astoria tonight and Radio1 are treating it like a major event..! What the hell is wrong with the UK music scene these days...

I think we should make a concerted effort to email DJs and news programs to wake them up to the tour.. So come on you Orgers - do your bit!

I work in the press and no-one rang the magazine to let us know about the show from his PR office.I only got tickets when I saw an ad in the Evening Standard! I don't think many people in the press know about it to be honest.

David Bowie is all over the TV at the moment too.

What we need is a night of Prince with Parkie!

Um they are a bunch of poncey fags who are so self obsessed with their own self importance and back slapping each other congratulations ...

that...

I was listening to the radio , it was capital fm or virgin fm i cant remember , and some moron dj was saying how he saw the DRUMMER FROM TRAVIS AT THE LOCAL PUB - and this was supposed to be somehow the best news everyone had ever heard all year...

I don't know which is more sad, the fact that he felt the need to tell everyone in the UK about how he SAW SOMEONE FAMOUS outside a pub - to somehow bring up his OWN level of self importance

OR

the fact that he even RECOGNIZED the fucking drummer from travis ??!??! are their lives so fucking sad and boring as dj/s that they have nothing better than to do that memorize b grade stars and no name session musicians faces so they can report of them if they are ever seen ANYWHERE ???

fucking sad shit !!!

I emailed the Radio 1 website 2 ask y there is no mention of Prince 'One Nite Alone' in the news section. So they know now (if they care).

But i reckon the press will send the odd reporter to the shows and they will b blown away. Then after he has left the country he will be all over the music press.

Its as simple as this folks... advertising costs money. Prince is not going to spend oodles of amounts of money on advertising, when the shows r sold out.

It is a crude way of saving money. Theres no point advertising, coz the tix r all sold out.

Pure and simple.

My point exactly. For a week or so after I fully expect some old P material to get play listed and then we'll return to normal again. Maybe if the press get hyped enough he'll come back in the new year!

It's not so much advertising as promoting, otherwise why is he bothering to release an album, that costs money too. If he promoted a sold out tour that gets rave reviews after he's already in Germany. People might buy the live album.

There's a large story in The Mirror today (Friday) which is pro-Prince, so that's better than nowt! (Old pic though).

Mr7

The dates are all sold-out, so maybe they don't need to know. Regardless, with all the London dates selling out in under 2 hours its an 'event' whether they like it or not. For the general public seats to be sold-out people other than hardcore fans are aware of it.

I'm aware that Capital FM has mentioned Prince a few times. The station is supporting the shows.

I agree though Matt, that it would be nice for the UK media to give Prince some recognition.

Whether Prince receives any exposure when he arrives here, all depends on how 'media-friendly' he's feeling I guess.

I think there is a very real possibility that Prince wants very little media contact. The comments on 'Paisley Newz' and the biblical quote used certainly provide evidence toward this assumption.

It's on Page 14 of The Ticket supplement inside The Mirror.
It's basically banging on about him doing the tour, how good he was in the 80s, changing his name, record contracts, his marriages and the fact he's releasing his first live album.
Fairly basic stuff but positive (it's too long for me to type it in, as I'm at work - so here's a little excerpt.)

Prince was as sexy as Madonna, could rock as hard as Bruce Springsteen, out-dance Michael Jackson, play guitar like Jimi Hendrix and cook up funk as potent as James Brown.
He wrote brilliant pop songs, monster club anthems, death-defying rockers, mind-blowing ballads and performed some of the greatest live shows in rock 'n' roll history.

Hope this is OK.

SensualMelody

Isn't it a bigger feather in his cap that he can sell out
in MINUTES without all the hype???
Who else could simply put the word out on a website and
do that??? Aren't you glad?...so you could get a ticket?
That's a bigger accomplishment I say...and Prince is not
being ignored by the press...He is ignoring the media
with his BAD self!!!

The boy is just BAD!!!
There will be great reviews...even though the media people have to purchase a ticket...
then folk will be asking..why didn't I know about it?

Ain't it the truth!!!nod
So...how's everybody doing? smile

Yes, many people know. I have a friend who lives in London. He told me it's been on the news several times and in the pop type news papers too.
