Target Ctr - I walked out of the show yes, after paying almost $200 for two seats, we left right after IIWYG. yes, we walked out of the show.
the brass section was phenomenal, but the rest of the show was unbearable. was up in section 210 and couldn't understand/hear squat. anytime P was speaking or singing, we couldn't comprehend anything. i guess it was partially because of the irresponsible late start (10:00p), partially because of waiting out in the heat, and being 1/4 of a mile away from the stage. i've seen him 5 times prior, and this is the first time i've walked out on him. our entire weekend was centered around this show, and travel/babysitter/dinner/etc was all timed to the 8:30p start. this was totally uncalled for. i did like my first introduction to Guitar, so of course i'll buy it when it comes out. highlight of what i saw was What A Wonderful World. stellar rendition and amazing work. it literally took me halfway through IIWYG before i figured out what the heck they were playing. that's pretty bad, and damn close to embarrasing. btw - was that john goodman singing Play That Funky Music?

Yeah i'm glad i didn't fly out for this. After seeing him in SF in May i'm convinced he's coasting. The band he has now is his weakest & I'm over hearing the same tired hits. He's earned the right to coast but i won't pay to see it. Sorry if this offends the ones wearing purple blinders..

I was there too. Anyone who says the acoustics at Target Center are bad is 100% correct. It's like one big echo chamber. Turn on your stereo and then cup your hands over your ears and that's kind of what it sounds like.
Besides that, it was still an awesome show and I am not disappointed at all.

how disappointing after such a build up/wait but, i wouldnt have walked out! mind u , if the wait was so long- i probably would have passed out from heat exhaustion 1st seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before

I don't blame you. The sound was not theat great, and the 17th row was very MEH. Don't get me wrong, hubby and I enjoyed the concert, however, we will never spend as much as we did on two tickets to see him or anyone else again unless the seats are in the first few rows. Someone mentioned the sound was better at Xcel Energy, and I agree.
He didn't even do 1999. | |

You have to know Prince always starts late. And, if you have seen him in an arena before, your right, usually the 1st night does not have great sound and unfortunately this was a one night only stop. I have been at several 1st night arena gigs in Chicago and most of them definately do not sound as good as the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th night; however, a bad sound night with Prince is still better than a wish I could be there night. Is everybody ready? Here we go!!

I live in Minneapolis, and I won't go to a show at the Target Center unless I really, really, really love who is playing (Prince, Aerosmith). The seats in the upper level are terrible, and it sounds like they purposely tried to f-up the acoustics. But if it's someone that you really love and want to see--ie, Prince--it's worth it. I was in section 206, and I still loved the show. Gotta love the Purple One......

The "being late" issue certainly wouldnt bother me, I am hoping the sound in the O2 Arena is good, should be as its a new arena and all.... bring on London!!!!!

SOund at Target Center is not great. It was alright from whee I was BUT I kept sayin' to myself after each song "WOW, I can't believe this can get any better" and it kept getting better! Amazing performance IMHO. Though First Ave was even more amazing (after waiting in line for sSIXTEEN HOURS to get ticket it better have been!) I did the full Prince trifecta yesterday! Whats with the design of Target that makes it bad acoustically? Knowing this couldn't P's engineers compensated with Speaker positions???
And was this sound just bad in the Upper level seats?

The Target Center has acoustic problems in the upperlevels due to the bad angles and the height. Sound bounces off of all surfaces so the roof combined with the bad angles makes for dead spots. I feel sorry for the people who had to suffer because of this but you still got to see a Legend. At the Xcel they have straighter lines and add acoutic absorbing drapes to stop the reverb. Target Center could do the same with a little effort. In the future I would advise people to pass on the upper level seats and concentrate on main floor and lower level seats at The Target Center. I was 12th row main floor and I enjoyed the sound even if it was a tad echoic. I loved seeing all U Prince fans showing your LUV to the Man. Hope to see U all soon.

This starting late thing....I joke with my co-workers about this...
The different culture of recording artists...Go to any R&B Hip Hop artist show.. They are ALWAYS late. I remember one summer R Kelly almost insighted a riot because he was 2 hours late and it was raining. Boyfriend and I went to see Velvet Revolver one year. We were half an hour late and there was NO traffic. Because everyone was ALREADY there. Go to a Hip Hop show, and there will be traffic all night coming to the show. Velvet was an hour late to get on stage and I remember the rock station people complaining about it. Boyfriend and I were like...they aren't used to it. We laugh it off and say oh yeah? Go to a Jay-Z, Beyonce, any Urban artist show. I guess the "other side" isn't used to the wait. I just go get another beer and hang out and chat with my neighbors

What is this nonsense about "you should expect it" or "get used to it" or "it's prince..." as if any of that makes it ok. Some of you are just absolutely crawled up inside Prince's bowels. You would find an excuse for him to spit on your crippled, one-eyed grandma.
Thirty minutes is expected, really. Rarely do shows start on time because its virtually impossible to have every unanticipated kink worked out. Anything more than that is unacceptable, and an hour and a half is just crazy. Time and time again, Prince shows his fans what he thinks of them. Yet they beg for more. I guess if you like to pay money to get shit on, more power to you. A lot of people have lives outside of Prince's purple fantasy world, lol. I feel bad for the guy above who had to plan his day strategically only to be dicked around by some ego driven celebrity. [Edited 7/8/07 12:56pm]

What I would rather find offensive about such comments, is that those enjoying it, supposedly aren't critical enough or are wearing "blinders" or whatever.
