Taking Cameras into the O2 ??

Hi,

Wondering what the policy is for taking camera's into Prince concerts at the O2 is. I've seen pics of BonJovi at the O2 on Flickr so I guess it might be ok.

I wanna take my semi compact with a telephoto lens fitted so I can get some closeups ! But don't know if security will stop me.

Every phone has a camera nowadays... I'm not sure there is any way to stop people taking photos if they really want to!

I have the same question. Does anyone has ever been to the O2 here? My telephone doesn't make good photos so I'd like to take my little camera, and I don't know if it would be possible.

I think you may have a problem with you tripod to hold your telephoto lens, I cant see a problem with camera phones.

I would have the security done under law ( assult and theft) if they lay a hand on me or my property

No problem I have a semi compact camera which can accommodate a telephoto lens and is light weight so can be handheld. Hopefully I am allowed to take it with me. Perhaps I can sneak in the camera which is basically a chunky compact and get one of my mates to carry the tele lens and assemble it when we are seated wink

See below...

I wouldn't take that risk with this camera at a prince concert, i know that thousands of people were filming bon jovi on their mobile phones recently at the 02, i heard, but this is a prince concert. my film was confiscated by scotty by prince's orders in 1998 in London.

you might get away if the lens was brought in separately as you say and also if you were far from the stage where they cannot see you as well

When I saw Prince at Brixton Academy, they were searching everyone on the way in and making people check cameras in the cloakroom. If you didn't want to do that, you didn't get in. It was a pain in the arse.

If I were you, I'd just go without a camera and focus on the concert. If you're focusing on the camera, you're not feeling the music the same.

i went to the brixton show too in 1998 and I was able to take a camera in and take lots of pictures from the front. i had an old 110 film type rectangular camera, i cant remember if they checked me, and some of the security at the front were looking sharply at what people were doing, i'm sure they saw me but i was careful too.

I am going to a total of 3 concerts, so I would like to take some good photos at one of them and at the same time soak up the atmosphere and music if I can.

I also emailed O2 customer services to see what their policy was and this is what they said...

"Thanks for your email. You are allowed a small personal camera with you, just don’t break out a tripod or a zoom lens and you should be fine! Enjoy the concert"

It will be hard work to search 20,000 people and is not practical. Guess it looks like I wont be able to carry the zoom lens with me then, the camera on its own should be fine though.

They were throwing people out of the after party in LA if they were caught taking pictures. Prince specifically stated he did not want his picture taken.

Bringing cameras to after show parties and small venues is likely to be a problem due to the fact there is a small distance between the stage and crowd so people could get close-ups of Prince which they could sell on to newspapers, magazines etc. As for big arena's there were plenty of people at the Superbowl with cameras and the O2 Arena will be no different.
