Don't start the whole "You are only a true die hard fan if you do what I would do" thing!

Someone could be a more die hard fan than you or I and only go to one show.

Money, time and priorities play a big part in peoples plans.

Personally, I have started restricting the amount of shows I go to, because I find I enjoy them more.I've got tickets for 17, but I'll probably end up going about 10 times. I may even cut it down to 7. One a week!

i'm not trying to start that argument, you are the first person to raise it. i said i was surprised that no-one else on this site, including people who reckon themselves to be die hard fans, aren't making the effort to c all the shows. i didn't mention anywhere anything that suggests any form of measurement as to what constitutes being a die hard fan

but whilst you mention it, you are right that money, time and priorities play a large part in it, but if you choose to priorotise other things in youre life over seeing your favorite artist, it does say a lot about exactly how die hard someone actually is. i've seen many real die hard fans sell collections, and do all sorts of things for various reasons over the years. some get fed up of prince, some settle down and get married or have kids instead, so thier priorities change and they stop becoming a die hard fan(atic). look at those tv shows that feature weird people with weird collections of stuff. notice that they are almost all male 40+ year old virgins

i'm far from rich, but i've made great efforts and sacrifices and a lot of long term planning has went in to attend the shows, arranging finances, time of work, travel, accomodation, tickets, etc. i'm travelling a fair distance too. so the way i see it is if i can do it, why isn't anyone else here? but then i look on HQ and it seems there are more people there going to a larger amount of shows, so perhaps it's simply a case of the die hard fans leaving the org behind to post more regularly on HQ instead. there's got to be more to it than time and money, as it's so easy to get a loan, overdraft or credit card these days, so it's fairly easy financially, time off work can be harder to arrange, but i was mainly surprised that the locals aren't attending more shows as they don't have the same problems of time off work, travel and accomodation as people who lives 100s of miles away who can't travel home after shows. maybe londonners are spoiled by having so many great artists and so many great shows so often

Congratulations Unique on all the sacrfices that you have made..well done!

If I'm reading you correctly, you are expressing disappoinment that Londoners are not making the effort (seeing all the shows/aftershows, taking the time off and spending all that ££s) that you are. Thats your opinion and of course you are entitled to it however, i think its grossly unfair to criticise a body a people with whom you only know one thing..they like Prince's music. You know nothing of peoples circumstances and situations - there are most likley people reading your postings and wishing that they could do what you are doing..thats your lifestyle but not everybody elses. Also to suggest that you can 'go to concerts now and pay later' by using credit cards is a pretty irresponsible thing to say. Someone may read your posting and think 'fuck that.. I'm skint but I'm gonna do what he's doing and get me a Capital One credit card and go to all those shows' only to find themselves in a position where they are unable to repay their debts and then where will they be.

i was only saying i was surprised that few people are going to all or most of the shows. any negativity read into what i said says more about the reader than it does about myself. i'm not criticising anyone for putting other priorities first, and why would i or anyone do that? i can't think of any reason whatsoever, as it doesn't benefit anyone, and i'm not suggesting anyone does anything to go to the shows, just pointing out that there are all sorts of options available so people can make the shows. if someone truly is a diehard fan(atic), and really wants to live up to that reputation for whatever good it's going to do them, there are plenty of options available.

part of the definition of die hard relates to "a person who vigorously maintains or defends a seemingly hopeless position, outdated attitude, lost cause, or the like." - suggesting that a die hard fan is one that will do anything, no matter how irrationally it may seem, thus a die hard fan is one that will do whatever it takes, as the definition of fan is "a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal". so if you are die hard, you do what it takes to go to the shows, if you choose not to, you may not be die hard, but that doesn't mean you're still a huge fan, and fans aren't classed in groups or get brownie points for going to extremes

i think it just shows that peoples idea's of "die hard" vary quite a lot. my mum said she thought it was a bruce willis film and didn't think it had anything to do with prince at all. the only prince she likes is edward, but she's never been to any of his shows

and if you think someone is going to read what i said and get a credit card and buy more tix, i think you are seriously underestimating the intelligence of orgers. based on what people have posted so far most people seem to be grounded in reality rather than going out on a limb to attend as many shows as humanly possible

i'm sure there must be plenty of fans who don't live close to london who would go to all or almost all shows if they lived closer, and wondering why those in the fortunate position to live closer aren't doing that, but as i mentioned before, i think it's because those fans are spoiled for choice from so many other great events all year round, so this event isn't as impressive as it may seem to others. or maybe after buying all them tix they have sold thier computers to pay for it...

I'm a Londoner, and I have tickets for one night, which I'll cherish like gold dust. If I was rich I'd go to far more, but I'm not.

Good on yer! And I bet you're as much of a "fan", whatever the definition, as any of us.

I've never been a subscriber to the opinion that someone is a bigger fan of Prince just because they attend more gigs and aftershows, and may get the occasional nod and chat from members of the band.

Being a fan for me is appreciating the art and the artist. Just because someone goes to the Tate Modern more than me, doesn't mean that they appreciate the art they see there more than I do, it just means they have more of an opportunity to go. Simple as that.

I am going three times this tour, and the reason for that is I love going with different friends of mine (mostly not huge "fans") to see Prince, just to gauge their reactions and see how they enjoy the gigs. I also love looking around during gigs to see how other people are enjoying the art that's pouring out from every pore of the artists on that stage. Does Prince know I'm there? No. Does he care if I'm there? No. Would he not sell out if me and three friends didn't buy tickets? Probably not.

Let's just all go to the gigs and appreciate the atmosphere that every single person there, die-hard fan/fan or not, will generate in that arena and marvel at the best live performer on this planet.

I have never had the chance to see Prince live before, does that make me not a big fan? Not at all! He is one of my all time favourite artists (and the only one living that I haven't seen live yet ... until 1st Sept:-D). I love his music and listen to him most days of the week, but I don't see the need in prooving how much I love his music - as long as I enjoy listening to it, it doesn't matter how much of a fan people class me as. Although I don't know anyone who would class how much of a fan I am, none of my mates listen to Prince at all! That's why I've ended up going on my own to see him, but I'm enough of a fan to travel alone from Cheshire to London to see him live. In my opinion thats all that matters, that I enjoy his music and I am finally going to be able to see him live smile

I see your point! biggrin

So HQ is full of the die hard fanatic 40+ virgins!?

That leave the org full of the 40 + wannabe adolecence females fams who care more for Prince's bum than his b-side!

My problem is, I don't fit in either category!!! lol
