Earth Tour v Musicology Just saw the Musicology show at MSG in New York on DVD (great show by the way) and it got me thinking. The Earth Tour is being touted as Prince playing his hits, right?
I think I just saw that show on DVD! What differences do you think there'll be in August? He'll have to repeat 75% of that show, won't he? Hey, bring it on I say!!! It'll be great whatever!

Hits again!?? It requires balls to play a show (in larger arenas and cheap tickets) with say 50+% 'obscure' stuff (new material, B-sides, non-hits). So the question is: Can he do it? (of course he can, but does he dare to do it and can he make a mix that will keep the average visitor happy enough?) Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Yeah, I suspect he will still be playing roughly the same sets he has been playing in Las Vegas, perhaps to the disappointment of many expecting a complete hits show. He said at the press conference that he and the band had rehearsed about 150 songs while in Vegas, yet the setlists have been more-or-less the same songs, and I don't see any indication he's going to suddenly abandon those songs and start playing, say, his bigger hits, instead. It was the same-ish set at the Koko gig, and I bet his Roosevelt Hotel gigs will be along similar lines too. But I could be proved wrong, perhaps when he hits that big stage in the centre of an arena he will realise that some songs work better in an intimate setting instead and save them for aftershows.
