Just got back from Prince Orpheum San Francisco

What can I say. The show was solid BUT he played the same stuff. BOYS AND GIRLS, IF I WAS YOUR GIRLFRIEND, PURPLE RAIN, LOVE BIZARRE.

Sheila was there with her brothers and father. That was pretty awesome. I enjoyed myself. I just want something new.

All the people around me were dead. Some people left. What the hell is that about.

I'm going to cry. that was the single most amazing experience ever. I cannot get over it, I'd turn gay for that man. excited

Thank you so much Prince. We love you. I will never forget this amazing night.

Maybe when my mind (which is still on the back wall of the theatre where Prince blew it to) is back together I'll write a more elaborate account. But for now, lets leave it at HADSGHAVDHABADBHHDSJNDKAJndldkjdnakjl daklnJDNKJSNDKJA I LOVE YOU PRINCE.

AMAZING show. It completely blew away my considerably high expectations. Nothing will ever come close. I'm so bummed to be back in reality; that was the ultimate escapism. Thank you so, so much Prince. Amazing performance.

you must have been in a different section than we were!! I went to the bathroom late in the concert, took my ticket just in case I needed it, lost it(when I was washing my hands) and had someone try to take my seat a few minutes after I sat down. Got my concert ticket back. It was some Asian chick. The folks next to us were all over it. Like, what are you doing trying to take the seat of someone who's been here all night??
Prince is at the top of his game. (although my hubby who who is not into P and travels with me to vegas and such, thinks he needs to lose the twins.)

Funnily enough I think I was right next to some asian chick(s) as well. Row X seat 117 in the orchestra (AWESOME seat). Was anyone here near me? I'll probably have seen you.

Here's the setlist and some thoughts:

The Glamorous Life (Sheila and family)
Down By The Riverside
Satisfied
Girls & boys
Cream
U got the look
Musicology
Sing A Simple Song (w/Larry G - sigh)
Thankufallettinme...(w/Larry G - sigh)
Alphabet St
Never Loved a Man
Lolita (sigh)
Black Sweat
Kiss
Shh (cut short b/c of technical problems)
Peach
Wonderfull world
Gotta Broken Heart Again
If I Was Your Girlfriend
Pink Cashmere
Love Bizarre

Encore
Crazy
Nothing Compares 2 U
Purple Rain
Lets Go Crazy (super short version - NO lyrics)

There's the setlist...here are some thoughts:

As stated in previous threads, its pretty much the same as the Vega$ setlist which is disappointing for a few reaasons:
1. We're spoiled here in the states since we've had so many
opportunities to see him play over the past year...and not
much has changed

2. The setlist is boring - especially since he was supposed to be done
playing his hits now...AND he said his band learned 150 songs...(even
my wife noted she'd seen a bunch of this set on the Musicology tour)

2a. Why in the world would Prince say "So many hits, so little time"
and then launch into "Lolita" and "Black Sweat"?? In what alternate
universe were those hits?? And if he's gonna play songs that most
of the crowd doesn't know, why not play something for the 'real'
fans instead?

3. Still way too many covers! I don't mind covers of interesting
songs (In Vega$ I saw him cover "Come Together" by The Beatles
and "Let's Go" by The Cars - that's interesting!) but its the
same covers over & over again since the ONA shows. With "so many
hits, so little time" can we get less of other people's hits?

4. Larry G. Again. (please, stop - I know he's a legend and
he's from Oakland...but really, please stop. Enough)

5. I'm not really feeling Satisfied as the opening song...especially
after the energy that the Escovedos generated during The Glamorous Life.

Some highlights:
- The Escovedo family!
- The Glamorous Life was a great way to open the show
- A Love Bizarre was phenomenal
- Pink Cashmere always feels like a treat to me
- Extended version of Satisfied was great...funny lyrics. I just thought it was misplaced in the set - would've worked better towards the middle.

He was in a great mood last night - really playful, joking around. It
seemed like he was trying to fuse the vibe of the ONA shows with some
of the energy from the Musicology shows. Maybe it seemed like that b/c
the Orpheum is small like the ONA venues were? My favorite fan was the
very pregnant woman sitting a couple rows in front of me - way to get the
little one into great music at a younger than young age. Loved her!
At the end of the day a Prince show w/a boring setlist is still better
than just about anything else. (thanks again, Peter!)

No clue if there was an aftershow or afterparty...I thought I heard
something about an afterparty, but didn't hear which club it might be
so we hopped a cab - I'm too old to chase aftershows anymore smile

youre welcome, shockadelica....im sure that your wife and my husband can compare notes about being married to a hardcore prince fan.

i thought the show was a 6 out of 10... but if i hadnt seen the vegas show a few times, i might have liked it more..

its weird, i have the same complaints every time i see him..(too many covers, no dirty songs, that devil larry graham)...but i still keep going back to see him.....

here's the deal:
sheila e was AWESOME!
satisfied is a HORRIBLE opening song.
the next 4 songs were PERFECT:
cream/u got the look/girls&boys/musicology.

U got the Look sounded especially incredible.

I thought we were getting a whole new thing and i was so excited....

THEN, the clown in the white suit came prancing out..
If I wanted to see a Larry Graham concert, I would. But i want to see Prince.
The ticket should come with a warning label "larry graham will be there". Just go away already.

I thought black sweat sounded great, but Lolita just doesnt sound good live AT ALL. Im VERY glad he dropped the song 3121, no one cares about it.

Then there were some MAJOR sound issues, including a loud squeak that was killing my ears which are still ringing.

I thought the show pretty much fell apart after that...

wonderful world is too long (impressive, but too long), i thought he butchered gotta broken heart again (he wont even sing "the little things you do to me in bed' line..give me a break) and nothing compares 2U sounds cheesey.

Purple Rain was so rushed and i dont want to hear about 'opening the scriptures', im not in church.
And Lets Go Crazy was reduced to the hideous "go go go" chant that he has been using since Lovesexy.. just give us the song, jeez!

I really cant imagine this show in a big arena, especially all the slow and jazzy stuff. he better add some more well known songs, keep the party moving and treat it more like a superbowl show....id even love to hear the watchtower/best of u mashup.

The highlight was definitely the run of songs that started with Girls and Boys and ended with Musicology. It was beautiful.

anyway, just one reporter's opinion.. i still love him, but maybe i just need a break for a while....
