May 19, 2007 10:45 P.M. Morris Day and The Time Presented by MIX 102.9 American Airlines Stage With his dynamic dancing and smooth yet gutsy vocals, Morris Day played an essential role in the development of the Twin City dance/club sound of the 80s. The Time was originally created as Prince's alter-ego to be seen as the cool, street-wise funk band contrasting Prince's more soulful R&B sound. So he cast his high school friend-- the funky, the fabulous Morris Day --in Purple Rain. The result?...numerous chart-topping hits including “Jungle Love” and “The Bird” and over 10 million in album sales! Web Site: www.morrisdayandthetime.com May 19, 2007 9:15 P.M. The Original Family Stone Presented by KTVT CBS 11 American Airlines Stage By harnessing all of the disparate musical and social trends of the late '60s, The Family Stone created a wild, brilliant fusion of soul, rock, R&B, psychedelia, hip hop and funk that broke down boundaries without a second thought. Their arrangements were ingenious, filled with unexpected group vocals, syncopated rhythms, punchy horns, and pop melodies. Hits included "Everyday People," "Sing a Simple Song," "Stand," "I Want to Take You Higher," "Hot Fun in the Summertime" and "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)."
