28 Apr 07 Concert and Aftershow review from Housequake

http://www.housequake.com...adid=85026

Much thanks to WeeZee B for taking the time to post the following on www.housequake.com. Sounds like it was a wonderful night.

3121 Concert Review & Aftershow

Needless to say, I had me the time of my life!! Everything ran so smoothly and the
entire show was filmed!

I went in around 11:00 P.M. and the atmosphere was very fun and lively.

The band is the same as usual as the last show.....including Larry Graham, Sheila E. and
Marva King took the stage as well (did you see her star in Diary of a Mad Black Woman-the
play...on DVD....with Madea....it was crazy?).

The show opened with DMSR - Musicology Tour Video (Houston).

Now let's get to the set list:

-3121 with some "Put Another Nickel In-In the Nickelodeon thrown in on trombone"
Larry Graham came out at the end of 3121 and Prince said, "We'd like to bring up Larry to pay
tribute to one of the baddest groups of the 20th Century! Yall picked a good one tonite cause
we gone jam all nite long!"
-Everyday People incl. Marva King
-Sing A Simple Song - Prince said, Are yall ready for us? Do you know how many songs
we know? 100,000!.....
-Hair with Shelby and Larry
-Pow, I Gotcha! (.....and the original is the jam, too)
-Thankyouforlettinbemyself - Larry said, "For all the years of being behind the Funk, we
want to thank you".....and then he broke into the song. As the song played a while, Prince
abruptly stopped it and said, "Wait, wait we can't give it all to 'em!" Then he started the
jam back up again.
-Alphabet St. (WooWee - this one was a smoker!) Greg Boyer threw in some "Dance
to the Music" and Prince also wanted everybody to show some love for Chance Howard.
That is when P informed us "We just gettin started, people!"
Morris Hayes welcomed everybody to 3121...Home of the Funk....and then he introduced.....
-The Glamorous Life - performed by Sheila E. with some extra, exciting percussion drama!
-Satisfied - Morris Hayes put on his white, church lady hat (reminds me of comedian, Ricky
Smiley's church lady routine, which is hilarious!) He said in his church lady voice....
Don't be worried 'bout what's happening on the other side of the street!... Prince came
out in a white suit jacket and black shirt and tore it up to the point where Morris said,
"Jest fee-eeeeel it. Participate! Do it while you're young". Prince was feelin' it so much
that he threw a stool. P also sat at the organ and played.
-Beggin Woman then he went into.....
-Cockeyed Woman - I got a cockeyed woman who see both ways at the same time....then
he went into.....
-3 Headed Woman - He said...."I ain't through talkin' about her! She know who she is!
Popcorn head!"
He said, "What about this one yall?" Then he went into.....
-Girls & Boys with some One Nation Under A Groove
-Lolita
-Black Sweat with some serious bass
-Kiss
-Shh
-Peach with some Rock me Baby
-Play that Funky Music White Boy - with a whole bunch of people dancing on stage
Excuse me if I got out of Sequence - I got caught up in the rapture...haha...
-Love Bizarre with Prince & Sheila E. (They walked through the crowd and danced on a
riser in the back in the Audio Booth)
-Get on the Boat - He said, "The good book said, some of us ain't gone make it....that's
why you got to get on the boat, yall!"
-Roller Coaster
-Purple Rain - At the conclusion of Purple Rain, Prince said, "All honor and glory goes
to my God Jehovah". Amen.
-Crazy with Shelby - I was leaning on a riser which I had pretty much to myself....in the back
with my elbows up on it like I was cool and I felt somebody like tap me on the arm and I
turned around and Prince's bodyguard was waving at me, like you might want to move
over....and when I looked up over my head, there was one of the twinz dancing over
me...and the view up her skirt wasn't too cute for me.....haha..along with a big gigantic
spot-light on the both of us, and the camera on that big long pole pointed directly at us.
Please don't be on the Video.....oh, and the twin almost did an "Aunt Bunny" (Eddie
Murphy) off the riser...trying to get down.....It was a scary moment.
-Prince concluded the show with, "Las Vegas, 3121 will never leave, the NPG will always
be here". (This quote is from my memory).

(Anything I forgot...feel free to add.....I think I pretty much got it, though!)

The Aftershow.....

The Aftershow was wonderful! It started at about 3:30 A.M. and we didn't get out of
there until 5:30 A.M.....daylight! I was sitting down before the show started and
Shelby came through minging with some folks. On her way past me yall know what
happened, right? We had one of those sister girlfriend moments! She reached her hand
out and then I stood up and we embraced like we had known each other for years. I
introduced myself to her and we had a little chit-chat about when her album is coming out
and she said that it will be coming out but he just wants to make sure it is just right, ecetera.
She is the nicest person.

-Mike Phillips once again greets everyone and then they go into an instrumental
-Night in Tunisia
-People make the world go Round - Mike Phillips on the Vox Box with some la-dee-da-dee
with some Freddy's Dead
-Instrumental
-No Diggity with some California (Dr. Dre/Tupac) - Mike P and Chance
-If you Need a Prince - Chance Howard
-Sweet Thing - Shelby
-Baby Love
-Infamous Santana instrumental - Sheila E - Percussion & Prince Guitar
-The Dance - Renato
-Love Is a Losing Game - Shelby w Prince on Guitar
-Love Changes - Shelby w/Marva King
-I'll Take You There - Marva King
-Prince then said, "We want to thank you for coming out tonight---to all the Funky
People in the house, we love you".
-Soul Fascination - Prince & Marva King
-Prince ended by saying, "The sun's coming up.....thank you so much.....we love you".

More things to say.....

Love back at cha! 3121 L.A., that'll be Disneyland for grown folks like me....ooooo
and a brotha sho is greedy....I saw all them tables being rolled up into Cuisine
with all that breakfast on it. Why wasn't I invited??? What the problem is??
It's 9:00 A.M. in the morning and I'm sleepy. Guess I'll just sit and eat in this
room the rest of the day.....And thanks Mama, once again.

Was surprised there was a aftershow at the 3121 Jazz Cuisine since it was closed. I did not get in as I took my time getting a Tshirt.
But Prince caught me off guard when he drove himself at 4am in a baby blue Bentley with a unknown brunette to the back door of the club.He waved to all 5 of us that were there. No bodyguards or others were with him.

felix....cool you got to see that too.....i'm almost sure that woman was the one he called on stage to dance after everyone else had been selected

have seen him with her at a few of the aftershows and they looked close

she is less attractive than mayte and mani but still fine.....maybe he just needs to date a while so he can tell if it is really love

great show Saturday night by the way

stood in line 7 hours and got 7 hours of music in return.....well worth the wait

it's over for vegas.....just saw them packing up a big Penske truck full of equipment, etc.....next stop L.A.....could be interesting

Ya, I think he cant repeat what he had in Vegas as there was no rules when he can play and how long you can play. With other cities, there will be limits im sure. Plus it was conveniet to have aftershows right next door. Wanted to watch Prince drive off but I could not wait as my plane left at 6am. My buddy took pics of the Bentley.

just wanted to add to Housequake's report:

it was absolutely the best show EVER!!!!

after waiting in the VIP table line for an hour and a half, we got let in to our table which was a table for two right up next to the dance floor!!!

the service was fantastic and we toasted to the show of the year as the DJ spun some fabulous tunes...couldn't sit down for long though, when he started throwing out "More Bounce to the Ounce", "777-9311" and "DMSR"...

"Barbarella" and then various dance clips played on the screens surrounding us as we waited for the venue to fill and midnight(and Prince) to arrive.

words are inadequate to describe seeing Prince and His band so close and personal-like.

again, best show EVER!!!

It was Saturday night at 4am when he pulled up. I left about 5am as I had to catch a plane but it was still there. No other cars around. I think I read the aftershow was done at 530am. I will try to post pic.
