Does anyone know if Sly Stone made it to 3121? Suprisingly, Saturday he showed up for a brief appearance at the Sly and the Family Stone concert at the Flamingo.

Like I said I remember dancing to Girls and Boys, I believe Pink Cashmere, I know in between our conversation with Jerome Purple Rain played, Lolita for sure. I am really sorry, but I've never been good with remembering setlists, this was was of the first times I actually was just having fun with our friends and the fellas...this is usually why I don't even post on our The Time's website that I moderate because they are more personal experiences and I don't go for just the show but to be there more for our relationships that we've built over the years. Thanks...Kimberly smile

Sounds like you had a blast. I would not pay too much attention to some of the orgers. Put a link up to your Time board.

Silly me:) Thanks, we would love to have you!

This is the review that I posted on our The Time website that I moderate. I'd loved to hear from you!!

Ok here's my night!

First of all we left San Diego Saturday and boarded my bosses plane around 11:00 am, he has a Piper 6 seat aircraft. The ride included myself, my husband Randy, Robert (my boss and pilot) and his girlfriend Kelly. The flight took us approximately an hour and 20 mins. He decided to fly into the N. Las Vegas airport since the traditional McCarron now charges an arm and a leg to park your plane overnight...I think he said over a $100 a night where this airport charges less than $10 per night. Expensive hobby I might add. But he's an excellent pilot. I have been flying with him for over 17 years now for business and several personal trips with my husband. Nice to have a private pilot around when you need one:) Well, the flight was beautiful, the day was clear not a cloud in site. We landed in Vegas around 12:30. We get out of the plane and settled into the executive airport and they arrange a shuttle to pick us up to take us to our hotels.

Ok, this is where the drama started. We are all in the shuttle and another Pilot and his wife are sharing this shuttle as well. They needed to be dropped off at some hotel not even in the city of Las Vegas, they were to be dropped off last. We get to the Aladdin where Robert and Kelly were staying and dropped them off. We pull away and are now near the Excalibur where Randy and I were staying. Something told me to ask my husband if he had his wallet. As soon as I said the word "wallet", the look on my husband's face said everything! He had left his wallet in Robert's plane which is literally 40 miles away. I immediately called Robert's cell phone, so I could get the keys to his plane and have the shuttle guy take us back to the airport and pick up the keys. So I dial his number, all of a sudden I hear Robert's cell in the back seat where he and Kelly were sitting. He forgot his phone. Remember, I said there was another Pilot and his wife that we're in the shuttle with us. So I asked them if they would mind if the shuttle took us back to the Aladdin so I can pick up the keys from Robert. The wife instantly looked at here watch, and her husband immediately said NO PROBLEM. OK! I call the Aladdin, get a hold of Robert's room, tell him I need the keys please come down and meet me by the taxi drop off and I have his phone. We get to the Aladdin, no Robert. I waited for a few minutes, and decided to call his room again, he answers, I ask him why are you not downstairs, he says he misunderstood me and thought I was to call when I got to the hotel. I think he thought he could get a quickie in before I got there. Any ways, I get his keys and I swear I thought I was going to pull his arm out of his socket...he was so nervous about me taking those keys. If I would have lost them we would have been screwed with not being able to get into his plane to go home. I promised him I would keep them safe. This whole process took maybe 15 mins. By the time I get back into the shuttle, I hear my husband (who is not afraid to tell anyone what's on his mind) say something to the affect...simmer down bitch, I said I was sorry! Oh my God, my husband is now in a verbal confrontation with this other pilot and his snoody wife (older couple). She apparently did not want to wait for me to run in and get the keys and bitched out loud the whole time I was gone, that it pissed my husband off to this extent. I immediately turned to her and apologized and asked her to have some patience, it was an honestly mistake and I would hope that if this had happened to them, that they would have an understanding party who would return the favor. So, silence! We get to their hotel, which I am not lying took us nearly 30 mins to get to...apparently when they got closer, the Pilot said shit! I should of flown into Henderson's airport...I flew into the wrong airport. Well that just fueled Randy who was biting his tongue the whole ride for me and when the door open to let them out...well, lets just say, Randy and the bitchy lady were still yelling at each other even when the door was shut the shuttle driver. I wanted to die!!!!! We get back to the airport now it's 3:30, yes that whole episode took nearly 2 and half hours. I run on the airports parking structure where the plane is parked and unlock the door and find my husband's wallet under his seat. I run back to the front where the shuttle is patiently awaiting for me, and we take off AGAIN to head to our hotel. We get to our hotel around 4:15 check in and no lie, I immediately ordered a bottle up to our room...we were in need of a drink! By the way...I did remember Robert's keys:)

So since this all took place, I now did not have the time to check out the Rio's set up with will call and all of that stuff, so we just relaxed for a while, ordered room service and got ready to head to The Rio around 8pm. We get to the Rio around 8:15 and there were around 15-20 people in the VIP line where we were told to go to since we had purchased the VIP table for an additional $375 between the four of us which also gave us a bottle of liquor and table service. Robert and Kelly show up within 10 mins after that, and no lie, we were approached by a staff member, they asked us our names, we told them, they said come with me, put wrist bands on us and took us right in and brought us to our table.

OK...here we go. Johnny who escorted in took us to our table and pointed out that next to our table was Prince's private couch where he and his friends will be. I look at Randy, Randy looks at me, Kelly looks at Robert, Robert looks at Kelly, and we all could not wipe off the smiles from our faces. I tipped Johnny $20 bucks and he said anything you need just ask. We asked if we could leave the venue and return he said no problem, Prince should be out around midnight. We left and played blackjack, which I must tell you was $25 a hand at The Rio, I was not too thrilled about the thought of dropping several hundred dollars while waiting for Prince to perform since we already dropped a grand to go to this performance. But we sat down anyway and played. We actually did fairly well, and after hour or so, we decided to got into the venue and start our table service. We ordered a bottle of Belvedere and mixers and started to get our buzz on. No one was at his couch as of yet, DJ Rashida was cutting it up, people where trickling in and we were having a great time. She was playing Cool, Get It Up, lots of old school and we were all feeling great.

This is were things may be a little fuzzy! It's nearing midnight or so and the show is starting, Prince comes out and everyone is going crazy. Sheila E and her father walk right passed me and I stopped her and asked her if she will be performing and she smiled and said you're in for a treat! She and her dad take stage, we're all going crazy. I don't remember any order of songs or any thing....I'm actually trying to remember if I remember what Prince sang...hopefully someone will post an accurate setlist to refresh my memory. Somewhere within 20 mins or so, Jerome and Terry Lewis are walking towards us and we immediately hugged and I reintroduced Jerome to Robert and his girlfriend. Robert met Jerome once before when I took him to a Time show and he's talked with Jerome via my phone when Jerome and I were eating breakfast in Vegas a few years back. Jerome then gave my husband a great big family hug and I looked at Terry and said with is fine self...HHEELLLOOO KKIIIMMBBEERRRLLYY! That was a treat. (Jerome introduced me to Terry 2 years ago when I saw The Time perform in Malibu and Terry was on stage with them and Prince sat 2 feet from me. Terry and Jerome brought me over to his mom and sister and we all sat and talked and looked back when we first all met which was somewhere around 10+ years.) That was also a great show!! Anyway, we were all very excited at this point, because now Jerome was with us and everyone that was in the VIP section was wanting to near us and our table. Jerome then went on stage for a bit and then came back off and eventually came back over to us and talked with Robert and was telling him how special I was and that I also worked for him...ok my boss looks at me and I pinch Jerome and tell him to shush. This is all relating to me helping Jerome with several things with The Family and The Time and some personal thangs...So they have a great conversation, I'm being talked up, my boss is complimenting me, Jerome is loving me, Terry his smiling at me, I have no idea where my husband is but I AM FELLING MARVELOUS!!!!!

Ok, Prince is now done...as I said I don't remember much of him perfoming, because of all the talking and drinking. This beautiful girl named Miriam comes up to me and says, can you introduce me to Jerome and Terry, so the nice person I am and the fact that she was a Selma Hayek double just more petite, I do. We wound up talking with Jerome for a while and Robert and Kelly barely stumble up to me and said they need to go back, Robert obvisously needed to sleep off that Vodka so he can fly the next day, they hand me $100 bill and tell me oh yah...Randy left as well, he was shit faced and took a cab back. I somehow missed him and he never told me he was leaving! So now, me and Miriam are alone with Jerome and Terry and the mention of the aftershow comes up. Jerome said, go around the corner and I call me when you are at the door and he and Terry left through the VIP section where the performers were and we headed out! I get to the aftershow doors and they are so many people waiting in line. I go to get my phone (which I must add is literally 5 days old and I just bought a chip so I could transfer my music from my computer to it) and I have NO phone. I lost my f_ _ _ _ _ _ phone. I could not call Jerome because I don't have his number memorized. I'm dying now. Miriam says "don't worry" Prince asked me to come to this performance tonite, his attorney Trevor knows me. OK, so now what. She calls this Trevor person, which I'm still having trouble understanding her and Prince's relationship. And he too is not answering. Somehow and this is exactly how it happened. I grabbed her hand and walked through the other door where there was no bouncer standing at and let myself and her in. NOONE stopped us! I had no idea as to where we were and where the aftershow was at, but something to me to open this other door, and I did, well it was the back entrance through the kitchen and we walked in and through the kitchen...and guess who the first person I see...Jerome. We always seem to connect this way. Jerome sits me in this seat that is literally the last seat in the back of the jazz restaurant and Prince is walking back and forth in and out of this room where the perfomers are all seated and he performs a little and walks off a little and so on. Miriam is sitting on the arm of my chair. I see my original waitress Chanel that took care of us at the VIP table and ask her for 2 extra dirty martinis and ask Jerome if he wanted anything and he looks at me and we both said at the same time "Cadillac Margarita" and high fived each other and started laughing. Well at that time, it appeared that Prince was looking right at us and I looked at Miriam to get her attention. Well not even 5 minutes later, a bouncer and a female with a walkie talkie come up to us...I thought I was gonna die, they said Ms. Prince's attorney Trevor has asked that you leave this establishment and you (meaning ME) can stay! Jerome shrugged his shoulders and held me back and said just let her go. Miriam got up and was escorted out. I honestly don't know what the hell that was about, but I was freaked out that Prince was paying that much attention to people in the back of his restaurant. Jerome left for a bit and his drink came. I was feeling a little weird by myself now thinking about my husband bailing on me that I got up with Jerome's drink about a half hour later and asked Otis one of Prince's musicians (can't remember what he plays...things are a fog), to give this drink to Jerome, I was going to leave. I thought it was wise since I was by myself, female and still had to catch a cab to get back to the Excalibur so I can bitch my husband out. As I was leaving, I heard someone say thank you for coming to 3121 I hope you enjoyed the show. So it was over at that same time anyway. I found my way to the front of the hotel where the cabs were and I saw Miriam, she waited with me for my cab and said she was confused why she was treated that way....I don't know....but something was weird about that whole thing with Prince.

I gave her a hug, thanked her for the company and got into my cab and was driven to the Excalibur, walking into my room just before 5 am. My husband jumps up and gives me a hug and asked where I was all this time, he was calling and calling my cell (I told him about losing it) he said Kim. I was tore up and didn't want anyone to catch any of it so I left. Sorry! I kissed him, said no problem and somehow got out of my dress, kicked off the pumps and hit the bed. What a night...even losing my phone, which by the way houses all of my contacts....including the fellas from The Time and my peeps. So whoever found that phone, not only has rare songs from Prince, etc on it, will see Jerome Benton, Jellybean Johnson, The Family contacts. I am so bummed! Hopefully they won't scolled to to the contact and willjust erase everything. I have my phone bills so I can recover all of their numbers, but any of you that know I have your numbers, please forward them to me again. I will have my replacement phone tomorrow and will try to start filling it up again over time.

I loved it. 3121 was a breeze to deal with. I had no problems, didn't experience 1 staff person being rude or anything. I would do it again in a heartbeat even at a grand. So I hear that might not of been his last 3121 performance...hmmmm. Another trip so soon:) We'll see!

Thanks and good night....Kimberly Martinez

You were so lucky to got into the after party saturday.I saw that back door to the resturant opened too, but was too chicken to go in.The girl "Miriam" did she have on a purple dress?

I feel Saturday night's show was more energized than friday, I guess maybe cuz his friends and family were present? I can't complain about the show either night, cuz I was up by the stage both nights.Saturday Sheila her dad and brother opened, I see where Sheila gets her talent; it runs in the family.I also enjoyed when Prince asked J.B. to come to the stage, at first I was like who is J.B? Jerome he came on stage and did alittle dance and then left the stage.Tamar came on and performed a number "I've never loved a man the way I love you", I beleive thqat was the name of the song, this was a treat since it was my first time to see her perform.Shelby has a great voice and it's very powerful she sang" Crazy" by Narls Barkley?Yes Prince feel when he came to his rt side our left side of the stage, but he played it off and jumped up and feel into the crowd like he used to do and let the crowd push him back up.I was disappointed that I didn't get into the aftershow saturday, oh well!

"THERE'S NO PARTY LIKE A PRINCE PARTY!"woot!dancing jig
(3/30 and 3/31 review)

That's what the theme for this past weekend at Prince's Club 3121 should have been. It was AWESOME!! Prince surprised us with Sheila E., Tamar, Candy Dulfer and Sheila E's father and brother, Pete and Juan Escovedo, it was a blast of Soul, Blues, Jazz and Latin music this weekend at Prince’s Club 3121. Just unbelievable talent all in one place. Let me just start by saying after his performance this weekend I can now say that the mold was broken when Prince was made,..so don't expect to find a carbon copy of him on EBAY or anywhere else...because it's not happening...he is "IT"..because he just is...the brother is off the chain.

There was soooo much energy in Club 3121 the entire weekend, major purple energy flowing all through the club…the vibe was right. Prince was full of surprises and extremely energetic and in a very positive mood. He was unstoppable. He sang the “Long and Winding Road” so beautifully and did a scream at the end that left you in awe. I do hope he records and releases a track of it. He mentally-seduced the audience with “Pink Cashmere” and did a nice, bluesy version of “Satisfied”. Prince and Sheila E. performed together as well as surprising us with Tamar. It was great seeing Tamar perform live on stage, brought back memories of her 2006 tour with Prince. Also, Prince's dancing skills was off the chain, the spins, the fast moving feet, singing while laying on his back, the screams, oh, the screams...ladies...you know what I'm talking about, then doing something like a "push-up" with one hand while singing....Wow!...have mercy!

My friends and I had a chance to get into the outer room of the aftershow on both nights. On Friday, I sat just outside of the main room, where the door was wide-open and you could see and hear the performance with no problem at all. On Saturday, sat in the outer room, more to the middle of the room, but could still hear and see the performance in the main room. Prince brought in a group called "Mosaic" which I heard also performed during the New Year's Eve weekend there as well. On Friday, Prince was in the main room for at least 2 hours and played a couple of songs and the main and outer room was jumping. On Saturday, he was there for less than an hour. I got into the outer room about a ½ hour before it ended, but we all knew it was the last night of the Jazz Cuisine, so I’m sure there was a deadline as to when they all had to be out of there. A lot of the musicians’ families/close friends were there, people from record companies were mostly in the main room on Friday, so very few regular Prince fans were able to get into the main room on both nights. Regardless, it was all worth every second. The entire weekend was awesome. If I had words to say to Prince and all the musicians that were on stage this weekend it would go like this:

Mike Phillips …you are a phenomenal musician; I loved your version of “It’s a wonderful world”. You play the sax with such emotion that you make the sax weep. I have a new respect for Jazz after I saw and heard you perform and now I am a fan;you can bet I will buy your music.

Sheila E: You are off the chain and then some, there’s not enough words in Webster’s to describe the music skills of you and your family.…you are a stellar performer.

Tamar and Shelby: 2 beautiful, extremely talented soul “sistas” with amazing and unique voices. How could Prince put both of these ladies on the stage at the same time without the stage trembling with emotion? When these 2 song birds sing, you feel the power of their voices and the words of the songs they sing.……just AWESOME.

Candy Dulfer: You rock! You’re an amazingly talented musician.

Cora, Josh, Morris Hayes, Renato and the Horn Section: You guys put on a fantastic performance this weekend, and that’s what happens when you work with the best, much blessings to all of you.

DJ Rashida: headbang dancing jig Thanks for keeping the positive party vibe flowing before the show-the videos played in the club gave us a history lesson about music and dance from Josephine Baker, to the Nicholas Brothers, the Rio De Janeiro Carnival dancers, 70s free-style dancers, Soul train dancers, clips of West Side Story w/Rita Moreno, etc., and the music you spinned, definitely prepared me and my friends for an awesome night of watching Prince, his band and his surprise guests perform.

The Twinz: You were chosen by a music genius to perform with him on stage, that says a lot and you have proven that you can do it.…. and you have. Your energy on stage is contagious, many blessings and continued success to both of you.

PRINCE: Brother Prince, and I say it like that as if you were my own brother……What can I say…you are a “genius” a truly, gifted and talented musician and we love you for that. Your unselfishness to bring forth the talent of other musicians and have them share the stage with you, and also at times, have the spotlight shine solely on them, just shows what a beautiful soul and awesome human being you are. I don’t know you personally, but only through your music and that’s good enough for me, but keep doing what you’re doing, and a multitude of blessings will always come your way.

Well, that is just some of what I would say if I had to say it personally to all of them. And if any of you have not had the opportunity to see Prince at Club 3121, you are really missing out on one fantastic show. This weekend both Friday and Saturday were packed and full of energy, so you U.S. fans, hurry up and make plans. I met Prince fans from Holland and Japan and the Italians--Rita and her friend were there, and if all of them flew thousands of miles to see this show, you know it had to be worth it. So those of you who can go need to start making plans to catch the last shows in April.

Also, just some shoutouts to some Prince fans I met or spoke to while I was there, it was great seeing many of the “East Coast” crew there, and “SCNDLS” (boot lady).. (SCNDLS it was great meeting you! but I still can’t get over that you thought I was Panamanian and yes, I still don’t think I have an accent, and yes of course I’m proud of my Caribbean culture..lol!..anyway you'll know what I mean by all of that and I’ll be waiting to read your report about the show this weekend);“Housequake” congrats on Candy Dulfer speaking to you (smile), that must have been awesome, don’t worry “CJBabydaddy” will get over it (j/k)..lol…and to SOULCHICA..(((Big Hugs)))...always great to see you!....and kudos to the 4 latina sistas that stood together with us in unity at the show...and to the “3” people ((REAL BIG HUGS))... (you know who you are) that I hung out with and attended the concert with this weekend “Was the show awesome or what??”…...dancing jig woot!.until next time…… wink

Peace!

I agree with many of the posts that Saturday nights show was incredibly energetic. And like 2elijah said, the vibe was very fan oriented and very fun. To those I met this weekend,(Moni, Michael, Jay, Tony TNT, Raquel, Christine, Rev, LadyFunkSoldier, GodCreatedWoman1, Steve, Odeley, Vicki, Toxi(sp?), and I know there's more. Sorry if I missed U smile thank you for being a part of the fun. It was truly a blast!
I didn't see the club show Friday night, but I did enjoy the outer room of the aftershow. I've been fortunate enough to get into the small room before, but after my outer room experience, I'd say the enjoyment level is comparable. The small room was dark and crowded, but it was great to see Prince at arm's length. The outer room however, had a great party vibe and I danced my arse off in the back of room! The bartender, Cajun, did a great job of keeping my libations potent.

"Ain't No Party Like A Prince Party!"

Also, Prince's dancing skills was off the chain, the spins, the fast moving feet, singing while laying on his back, the screams, oh, the screams...ladies...you know what I'm talking about, then doing something like a "push-up" with one hand while singing...Wow!...have mercy!

I got into the outer room about ½ hour before it ended, but we all knew it was the last night of the Jazz Cuisine, so I’m sure there was a deadline as to when they all had to be out of there. A lot of the musicians’ families/close friends were there, people from record companies were mostly in the main room on Friday, so very few regular Prince fans were able to get into the main room on both nights. Regardless, it was all worth of second. The entire weekend was awesome. If I had words to say to Prince and all the musicians that were on stage this weekend it would go like this:

Mike Phillips …you are a phenomenon; I loved your version of “It’s a wonderful world”.

Cora, Josh, Morris Hayes, and the Horn Section: You guys put on a fantastic performance this weekend, and that’s what happens when you work with the best, much blessings to all of you.

The Twinz: You were chosen by a music genius to perform with him on stage, that says a lot and you have proven that you can do it.…. and you have. Your energy on stage is contagious, many blessings and continued success to both of you.

Prince: Brother Prince, and I say it like this as if you were my own brother……What can I say…you are a “genius”, a truly, talented and gifted musician and we love you. Your unselfishness to bring forth the talent of other musicians and have them share the stage with you, and also at times, have the spotlight shine solely on them, just shows what a beautiful soul and awesome human being you are. I don’t know you personally, but only through your music and that’s good enough for me, but keep doing what you’re doing, and may a multitude of blessings always come your way.

Well, that is just some of what I would say if I had to say it personally to all of them. And if any of you have not had the opportunity to see Prince at Club 3121, you are really missing out on one fantastic show. This weekend both Friday and Saturday were packed and full of energy, so you US fans, hurry up and make plans. I met Prince fans from Holland and Japan and the Italians--Rita and her friend were there, and if all of them flew thousands of miles to see this show, you know it had to be worth it. So those of you who can go need to start making plans to catch the last shows in April.

Also, just some shoutouts to some Prince fans I met or spoke to while I was there, it was great seeing many of the “East Coast” crew there, and “SCNDLS” (boot lady).. it was great meeting you! (but I still can’t get over that you thought I was Panamanian and yes, I still don’t think I have an accent, and yes of course I’m proud of my Caribbean culture..(lol!..anyway you'll know what I mean by all of that and I’ll be waiting to read your report about the show this weekend);“Housequake” congrats on Candy Dulfer speaking to you (smile), that must have been awesome, don’t worry “CJBabydaddy” will get over it (j/k)..lol…and to SOULCHICA..(((Big Hugs)))...always great to see you!....and to the “3” people (you know who you are) that I hung out at the concert with this weekend “Was it awesome or what??”…..until next time……

Peace!

Allow me to continue smile So Friday night experience ended Saturday morn sometime after 5am. My husband and I awoke and went straight to the pool. Some hair of the dog drinks and a dip in the pool and we felt ready to start a new adventure. We met at the Masquerade bar as planned, and met a few other orgers. It was a great way to share the passion. However, I expected more of us to show up. I found out later, that most who had planned to meet up, slept through the day. After a nice nap, we headed over to the restaurant for our dinner reservations. We were joined by Raquels and Christine. As I said before, the service was slow and they were not prepared to serve vegan dishes. We basically rushed out on our dessert to get into the VIP line which was longer than expected. We got a booth in the top tier directly in the center of the venue. Right below us sat Sheila E. and her family. She really does look good. So does her father, so they must have that good aging gene smile As you've read, Sheila and her dad opened the show with a great percussion set. Then, a couple standing behind us, behind the railing, started yelling at us to sit down. I simply turned around, smiled and said, "paid for it!" I never sat down once! Hell no! I don't want to go over the whole show again, as many have already posted the details, but my hubby thought he saw Prince do the splits. In retrospect, I think that may be when he fell into the crowd. The Twinz danced on the pedestals by the sound booth and Prince basically danced on the sound booth. This brought him close to the fans who were in the back. Then he whispered to Sheila and pulled her up to the booth. They jammed Love Bizarre soon after. That was cool! The Saturday nite show was definitely more jazz based and Prince's presence was very subtle. I preferred Friday nite's aftershow. It was more of a jam. So I thought I was going to his last show. Then he adds more dates. Now I'm comtemplating going again and dealing with all the stress that goes along--money, reservations, tix b4 prices go up... Why does the man do this to me!?!

I agree - it was great fun to meet a lot of cool fans. And the vibe and energy was definitely there the whole weekend. I felt lucky to attend both aftershows - simply amazing.
I wanna be in the new breed - stand up, organize

Fellow friend/brother and orger TollyC and I hit up the Rio Saturday night 4 our very own 3121 experience. This is my review of the show. We had a table right near Rashida's booth and sat with some really cool folks and truly enjoyed ourselves. I have never tried 2 remember a set-list but challenged myself 2 do so this past Saturday, without writing it down...so I may have messed up the order...4 some reason the Tamar/Shelby may be out of order, and I do not know the title 2 the instrumental that featured the hornz, nor the first song that Shelby performed during the show...so I apologize in advance...here goes...

Rashida mixed some sweet music all night long and I dug the dancing clips as well...once they were put on the screen after the movie that played. (Prior 2 that the western style movie, Bandidas, with Selma Hayek and Penelope Cruz was playing.) I loved the music though...plenty of Prince, The Time...Stevie, Michael...old school rap...just a great mix of music. Then the MC asked if we were ready 4 Prince...place went nuts. It was very close 2 being a capacity crowd. The floor was packed! Oh...Gina Davis was there 2...and she was standing by our table 4 a moment b4 walking back 2 the VIP-VIP area with her current beau. Also, while sitting there Morris, as in Hayes, walked by...and I gave him the "cool guy" 'what's up' nod geek lol (laughing at myself here) and he stopped and shook my hand and a surprised TollyC shook his hand as well. So that was our little "celebrity" moment. cool cool So after some more Prince music...the intro 4 the UK Hall of Fame came on and was played...and then...

...U could here the percussion instruments...bongos....drums...behind the curtain and U just knew who was in the house...yep...my girl Sheila E!!! The curtain raised and...Sheila was with her dad and brother and they were jamming...and all of a sudden...they broke in2 (1) The Glamorous Life!!!!! Incredible...it was so hot and so energetic...at the end of the song...they all stopped and then Sheila came back and did one of her mind boggling solos...and tore that s*it up!!! Prince then came out...and gave mad props 2 Sheila E...and talked about all the talent in the house (he called out Terry Lewis a couple of times as well)...and that we all picked a good night 2 come and then broke in2 a great version of (2) Satisfied. He then talked about no such thing as time (I'll plead the 5th on the rest of the commentary). With that being said we figured...since there is no such thing as time...he's gonna play all night long!! So then...with Sheila on the drums...he breaks in2 (3) Girls & Boys and tore it up...he then went in2 (4) Purple Rain, again with Sheila on drums. A nice long version...very nice with a sweet solo by the Kid.

Next up was a little break 4 our man...and the hornz came down with the band and jammed 2 a song, that, although sounded familiar, like an old time song, I'm not sure of what the title is...(5) Hornz Jam. Prince then came back out and did a kick-azz version of (6) Lolita, which was totally hot! I also liked what the Twinz added 2 the show...energy wise and visually. (7) Black Sweat was next and he makes that a really tight live song...I totally dug that as well. Both were highlights 4 Tolly & me. (This would pretty much wrap up the 3121 trax, which at the time we did not know...but that would be a disappointment. I'll expand on that a bit later) Prince then went in2 his little "Musicology all night long and how his band was tight"...and then broke in2 (8) Musicology. During the song, which was excellent...he walked right past our table. He was then singing at the back of the dance floor area and that was a nice little change of pace 2 move back there and kick it. After that he and the band busted in2 (9) Prince & the Band which I always like during a show. After this little set...it was time 4 another little break...and Renato, whom I love on the keys, did (10) It's a Wonderful Life with Mike Phillips.

Tamar was there...and she did Aretha's (11) I Ain't Never Loved a Man and Shelby did a song that I am not sure of the title (12) Shelby song...when Prince came back..I didn't really see him come back on stage...but he looked like he was stage diving...but some reports said that he slipped Prince got back up, cool as the other side of the pillow, and was back on his feet on stage and then after Shelby finished...the intro 2 (13) If I Was U're Girlfriend kicked in...and Prince did a slammin' version and was really in2 making this song and this was one of his highlights. Next up...(14) Pink Cashmere...and he was really smoove...both vocally and with his feet dancing. Prince was really getting in2 this song as he danced a lot on this song between verses. Prince then said he was 2 cool...and we couldn't handle him anymore...and walked off the stage. A backlight then lit up behind the stage.

Next...was the highlight 4 me...we had just seen Sheila walk by us...and didn't really think anything of it...as Prince was still jammin' on stage...but then it hit me...the opening notes of one my all time favorite duets...Prince walks back out in2 that light...and we hear "A..B..A, B, C" (15) A Love Bizarre!!!!! This was one of my favorite all-time live moments in seeing Prince. Prince was on stage and Sheila was in the back, where Prince had sung b4. This was reminiscent of the their duet on Sheila's Romance 1600 video when they all did the Oak Tree...and just flat out tore it up in SF. And...to really take us back...Prince called 4 "JB" 2 come out...and sho 'nuff...Jerome hit the stage and they danced 2gether 4 a minute. They tore the stage up with this song...and U could tell that Prince and Sheila were loving doing this song 2gether...as both played off each other very well...and once again...Prince walked past our table as he went back 2 sing with Sheila. They then both walked past our table again...as they headed back 2 the stage 2 finish up the song. I'm tellin' U...this song was just all that and then some. I'm not sure he could have left the stage on a higher note. After the song...he, Sheila and the rest of the band left the stage.

It was already encore time sad ...we knew the show would not be a tour length show...but we had hoped anyway, especially after the "no time" commentary wink . We were a bit disappointed that there were not anymore 3121 songs...I really wanted 2 hear 3121...or even Fury, or Te Amo Corazon, which the band has performed in the past. I figured since Maceo was not present that we would not hear Get on the Boat...and knew that Beautiful, Loved and Blessed would not be played despite Tamar's presence. So I would say...this is the one bit of a criticism I might have...which leads 2 the encore...

Shelby comes out and does (16) Crazy...why she is singing an encore...and a Gnarls Barkley song 4 that matter...is not something I can get fired up 4...or agree with...especially when all those other 3121 songs, along with Guitar and Somewhere here on Earth are still sitting on the table so 2 speak, and are, of course, his most recent songs. (I do understand though how he takes the "same show" and mixes it up so not each night is the exact same...a la Musicology.) Prince then came back on stage as Shelby ended and broke in2 (17) Nothing Compares 2 U...which was a really tight version. At the end of the song he then flipped his mic up in2 the air...allowing it 2 just fall on2 the stage with a "thud"...and he then flipped another microphone/stand down as well...and walked off stage...oh that petulant little Princey!!! So that was it...curtain went down...Rashida spun a little Sade...something else...Sade again...and then we left. The line 4 the aftershow was huge...and there was no way we were going 2 stand in line 2 not be guaranteed 2 be in the room...especially with an early morning flight back 2 the Land of Snow. With this encore...I can see why some people leave the show early 2 stand in line 4 the aftershow. (Nothing Compares 2 U was tight...but it did not have the same power as A Love Bizarre)

So...overall...we thought the show was great. Well worth our money and time. Plus Prince was really on point Saturday night as well...high energy...good spirits and he performed extremely well. I loved seeing Sheila...with Glamorous Life/Love Bizarre being 2 of the highlights 4 me...along with seeing Prince tear up Lolita/Black Sweat. I do think it was worth it because it was such an intimate setting. An arena show like that...may not be worth that much money 2 me. Perhaps we are a bit spoiled by the fact that we have seen him jam at the Park so much. But with the songs by Tamar/Shelby/Hornz/Mike Phillips...those are 5 opportunities where we did not see Prince as the focal point. That's like 29% of non-2-minimal Prince being front and center stage. And I didn't even count The Glamorous Life in that figure. So about a 1/3 of the show is Princeless. And we would have personally liked 2 have ALL PRINCE...but we knew what the 3121 experience was all about...so we were not disappointed. This is simply our unsolicited opinion. Much love 2 Prince, Sheila and the NPG, plus the energetic audience, 4 a great night!! The 3121 experience is worth the trip...and hopefully some more of U all will get a chance 2 enjoy it this month! Peace, Love and Light 2 U all...

(but I still can’t get over that you thought I was Panamanian and yes, I still don’t think I have an accent, and yes of course I’m proud of my Caribbean culture..(lol!..anyway you'll know what I mean by all of that and I’ll be waiting to read your report about the show this weekend)

Girl, you can say what you want but I KNOW you Panamanian, I'm claiming you cuz you look just like my auntie! LOL! lol It was great seeing you and Ro-Ro wink again, cuz ya'll are true FUNK soldiers lining up for your funk transfusions early in the damn morning. But I guess the time waiting in line and the resulting sore booty all pay off when Prince decides he wants to stage dive into YOUR arms and says with a wink and a smile, "Catch me!" He better be glad he did that to ya'll and not me cuz I woulda caught him and kept him despite the impending beat down. nod lol

I'm totally in agreement with everything 2elijah said so I won't rehash it, but here's my take on a few things. I got to the Rio early on Friday and decided to check out the line situation around noon and found the faithful working it out in line already. I greeted everybody and got to chat with folks I hadn't seen in awhile. I thought about lining up but after flying in a few hours earlier I couldn't do it.

Instead I went to an early dinner at 3121 with a friend where we heard a drummer and a keyboard player playing some funky jazz in the inner room where Prince does the after shows. I went to the door to see who it was and met two really nice guys that I'd never seen before but they were quite good. They invited my friend and I to eat dinner in there as the room was totally empty. When I asked our server if we could be moved we were told that Prince had reserved the whole room for a private dinner for the band members, friends, and family. Oh, well.

I had the filet mignon again and it was just as tasty as it was last month when I ate there last. We even got some free champagne from somebody, so it was a great start to a Beautiful Night.

I returned to the line around 7:30 and while I was waiting I looked over to the box office and I see Pete Escovedo's head of glorious, wavy white hair (I swear, that man's hair is just gorgeous biggrin ) So, I started telling folks that's Sheila's dad and mom over there, and sure enough her petite form was hiding behind some big ol' shades and a coat with a hood on it. Right about then a chorus of "We LOVE you Sheila!" erupted from behind me. She smiled and waved at us. So, I'm like, "Sheila's in da house???? Oh, this show is going to be SKRAIT IGNORANT!!!" (re: really, really good) lol

So I get up in the club to find a place on the left side of the stage. I’ve always stood on the right side but that’s where the crowd was, so this was my first time on the left. I really can’t tell if Prince favors one side to the other because if you’re in front you can see him where ever he is on stage. Of course, this is dependent on your height.

I can say that I wasn’t crazy about the vibe among the fans on that side of the stage. The guys were great, really considerate, but the women were very territorial almost rude. Now, the same could be said about me if you try bogard your way up front and I haven’t seen you in line ahead of me or sitting on the floor for the last 3 hours, but these women were on another level. There was no chatting or sense of excited like I’ve experience when I sit on the right.

So the show starts, and Sheila’s on the right side of the stage (figures!) looking absolutely STUNNING!!!! She’s wearing a leopard print corset, nude colored skirt, and 4 inch leopard print mules. She’s wearing her hair straight, long, and jet black. And who does she look like (to me, anyways)???? Nicole from the Pussy Cat Dolls! I thought that was kinda funny. All I could say was, “That’s 50 years old in December?????” Surely, not! She was looking good, and sounding and playing even better! It was great to hear and see her perform with Prince again.

The show itself was great. He was VERY playful with the audience, at one point telling Mike he was gonna get somebody pregnant with his sax playing and announcing that a group of women in front were “Ovulation Station!” Also, Prince seems to dance more and more with every show that I see. Which I love. woot!

I have a habit of watching Prince perform with my head cocked to the side and a HUGE goofy grin on my face and I don’t realize it. While he was singing Satisfied, Prince looked over at me and bugged his eyes out REALLY wide at me eek . It took a few seconds for me to realize he was directing his mocking trance-like gaze at me. When I realized it, I kinda snapped out of it omfg and laughed out loud and he smiled and shook his head at me.

Musically the band was tight as always, I LOVED hearing Peach live and Black Sweat is always a fave. We’ve all seen the setlists before and heard the same complaints. But don’t sleep on the sets even if they feature the same songs because I heard many of the same songs on Friday AND Saturday that had very different arrangements, lyrics, emotions, and delivery from one night to the next. For instance, Satisfied was twice as long and sexier on Saturday than it was on Friday (even though it was still great). He changed some of the verses in Pink Cashmere on Saturday and it was also longer on Saturday. Black Sweat also sounded different. At any rate, I enjoyed hearing how he changes songs from one night to the next.

The one complaint I do have regarding Fridays show occurred when he went into Musicology after the 4th song. Usually this comes about halfway through the show as this is when he brings up the fans to dance. Being that it happened so early I noticed that Musicology was extended for an eternity with Prince running away from an amorous dancer on stage most of the time. But it was GREAT to see Candy and Chance do their thing. Then they did Pass the Peas, It’s a Wonderful World, Shelby sang Crazy, then 1 or 2 more songs without Prince. So it was at least 25-30 minutes of no Prince doing a song by himself. I was having withdrawals and was ready to see/hear Prince again. But the rest of the show was wonderful.

On Saturday, I decided to go check out the line and to my dismay there are way more people waiting at 2:00 on Saturday than the day before. I also run into some cool girls from Chicago that I met on New Year's Eve so we decide to go grab a bite to eat. After lunch we return to the line around 4:00 and more people are waiting. We decide to cop a squat and join in the madness because standing in the back is not even an option.

As the day progressed, I realized that I would need to go upstairs and change clothes but the more and more I thought about it, the more I was dreading getting all dressed up and wearing 4-inch heels to sit on the floor for 6 hours again tonight. So I decided to go to the show in what I was wearing, a pink cotton polo dress and white tennis shoes. Did ya'll see me??? I was the fool that looked like I was going to play in a tennis match. Several people called me Serena. biggrin But that's alright, I was comfortable and my dogs were NOT barking for once.

While we're waiting, I hear what sound's like a soundcheck and somebody (Sheila?) beating on the timbales. Awwwww sooky, sooky, they gon' get IGNANT again tonight!!!!

Of course who opens the show??? None other than the Escovedo family. It was great to see Sheila open with her father and brother, they tore the roof of the sucka. And she's wearing some 5-inch heel platform (stripper) shoes. Which, to me, is very impressive considering my tennis shoe situation.

This show’s energy was on a higher level. And it was really great seeing Tamar who looked genuinely surprised to be pulled on stage because she was waving at the band members and had a look like, “I wasn’t expecting to be on stage with ya’ll again.” Then the twins came up behind her and they went into their dance routine from last year’s tour. Tamar sang, “I Never Loved a Man” then Shelby followed with “Crazy.” The last thing I remember was Mike Philly singing “One Nation Under a Groove” over whatever Prince song was playing (isn’t it sad that I don’t even remember disbelief ) And we TRULY were a nation UNDER a purple groove.

All in all, a beautiful weekend with beautiful people from around the globe, not only was Texas, Illinois, New York, Jersey, Cali, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, Minnesota, Virginia (what up, T!) reppin’ hard. But the international contingent from Italy (Ciao, Rita y Lori!) Japan (Cayoko), London, Holland, and other nations were in FULL effect. Who’s ready for round five???? Me, Me, Me!!!! excited

All in all, a beautiful weekend with beautiful people from around the globe, not only was Texas, New York, Jersey, Cali, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, Minnesota, Virginia (what up, T!) reppin’ hard. But the international contingent from Italy (Ciao, Rita y Lori!) Japan (Cayoko), London, Holland, and other nations were in FULL effect. Who’s ready for round five???? Me, Me, Me!!!! excited

I’ll comment on the after shows in another post.

Hey Girl!...You are so funny! If you want to claim me as Panamanian, then so be it...Panamanian it is...but it's Virgin Island roots not Panamanian...Caribbean is all the same to me anyway (lol!)...It was so much fun speaking with you, you have such a great personality. Now when Prince ran across the stage and did what was suppose to be a fall, if it was, you know how he likes to tease the audience, you can just never tell, but , when he did that, me and my friends almost had a heart attack because we were all holding on to him lightly in concern that he was hurt, since it did happen right in front of us and we were asking him if he was ok, but he put on that "mischievous" look, got up, smiling like he was about to do something sneaky, and of course he did...he stood up, turned backwards and told us to catch him and threw his body right into our side and the people in back of us...what??.unbelievable (lol!) Prince is a trip! but he's an awesome brother and that's all there is to it.

I also agree about his dancing, just incredible. I have to say I really enjoyed this past weekend's show, it was worth every cent. I loved his version of "The Long and Winding Road" and the way he screamed at the end, he needs to record that. He just gets better every time

Hi Scndls - I was the guy in line on the other side of the japanese ladies. We had some good laughs.

I'm glad you said it. I've gone to all kinds of shows for 25 years and it's usually the guys acting like a holes. On both nights, sets of four or more ladies came barging in front of me or others with no regard to anyone. They lied, sneered, bitched ...etc. They obviosly were raised right. It was annoying.

Everyone was cool cool

I think I know who you guys are talking about, When everyone was sitting around when we were first let into the venue, these 2 girls just came walking over everyone up to the people that were behind me, and just walked right in front of them and stood there, which I thought was so rude. These people had already been sitting there for a while and these 2 chicks just rudely walked over them and had the nerve to think they were right. Well apparently when all the people they walked over saw this, they all got up and claimed their space. Eventually these 2 rude girls had no choice but to move back, it was just plain rude what those 2 did. It's all about respect.

Are you talking about the two tall girls and one of 'em was wearing a church dress with pouffy sleeves and a big ol' black hat? If so, when they walked up I asked my friends, "Uh, where does 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' think she goin'?????" confused

But no, what about the chick that rolled up from way in the back during the show when Prince was singing Pink Cashmere (I think) and he said, "I need someone to come dance with me." Well, every body knows that if he doesn't pull you up or choose you and direct security to bring yo ass on stage that he's pretty much just talking noise.

Well, this girl thought that was a personally monogrammed invitation specifically for her to get on stage and barrelled through all of us in front of the middle of the stage saying, "Prince said he needs someone to dance with him and I'm going up on stage." This chick was as serious as a heartattack and looking at us like, "Aren't you going to move?" We turned around and tried to ignore her but she kept pushing into the back of us and telling us that Prince was calling her!

I had to let her know, "Guhl, you better get yo ass away from here." LOL!!! lol lol That was some funny stuff right thurr!

And yes, after sitting on the floor outside the club for 4 hours my skin was a bit dry (re: ashy) so I had to go upstairs and oil it up for P. That's how he likes it. batting eyes nod innocent

Flew in from the east coast Friday (after touring DC with my 5th graders for 3 days!) and went right to the line for the aftershow, changing into our clothes in the car! LOL! We were two that got a "numbered card" and eventually were able to get into the jazz room. UN BE LIEVABLE. The experience of a LIFETIME. The man passed right behind us several times--we were able to make eye contact, but were too worried about keeping our distance to offer a handshake. We didn't want to do anything to weird him out! Lawd, he is beautiful.

BUT--somebody PLEASE tell me what in the world was happening with "big hair dude" who was seated right behind the band! I have NEVER seen so much hair flingin' since I scanned by a Yanni concert on TV! Seriously, it was DISTRACTING, and I was so worried that Prince was going to just give up and walk out. He spent a lot of time with his back to us, kind of nestled in by the drums, and I think it was probably to keep his distance from this dude. And ya'll--after every hair swirling event, he would fling his head back and nearly knock out his girlfriend with the hair, while trying to get it all back in place. I'm surprised his woman didn't have to literally spit out a mouthful of hair after every song! LOL!

Even with this distraction, though, it was truly an honor to be there, and we are so grateful for the experience. Made our 4-5 hours of line waiting TOTALLY worth it.

Ok--so Sat. night's concert. Everyone has pretty much covered it all, but I'm surprised there hasn't been more discussion on his WIPE OUT! He ran in (I think during "down by the river side, right?") and it was like our man hit a banana peel, or something! BOOTS UP IN THE AIR! And then the crowd had to help him get back up on the stage, at which time he cleverly played it off by doing a mosh pit dive backward. No kidding--I was really surprised he could finish the show. I know he has the perfect amount of padding on that tight little behind of his, but I'd be very surprised if he didn't have some serious tailbone and other muscle pain. I imagine if that had happened Friday night rather than Saturday, the Saturday show may have been VERY different. Somebody get him some sticky treads for those boots. We will have NO MORE of this slippage stuff--I don't want him taking any chances! LOL!

The other thing I haven't read much about is Prince's absolutely NASTY bass playing on Black Sweat! UN REAL. Only thing I would have wished for was MORE! And then he passed his bass into the audience, and they passed it down to the guitar tech! WTF?!!!! What a treat for them!

The other thing I wanted to share is how impressed I am with Shelby. The only other 3121 I was able to attend was the Feb. 24 show when she was sick. At the Fri. aftershow AND during Sat's show, she performed Mother's Finest "Baby Love." That song has been in my head ever since, to the point that I actually found the original version on iTunes and had to download it, just so I could hear it again and again. If you haven't heard this song--give it a listen. Truly a fusion of rock and funk--and while listening to original, just try to imagine raging guitar solos by our man while Shelby is singing. I think Shelby has a very similarly rich voice to the lead singer of Mother's Finest, but I actually prefer Shelby's tone. What I wouldn't give for Prince and Shelby to release this song SOMEWHERE. . .I really believe it could be a hit for both of them. And honestly--although Prince calls Tamar, "the Voice," I prefer Shelby's voice to Tamar's as well. And Shelby mesmerizes me on stage--she is so charasmatic. FONKY! I know some folks only want to hear Prince, but I love getting to HEAR Shelby, while WATCHING Prince play. Having Shelby on vocals allows Prince to really get into his guitar, which is a joy to hear and see. And at the aftershow, Prince showed some real appreciation for Shelby's talent, teasingly falling over and covering his face when she would "let loose." What power she has with that voice! And on top it, very down to Earth and open with fans. Prince could definitely use a little infusion of that among his peeps.

And while I appreciate some folks' position on Prince doing covers, one interesting by-product of Shelby's cover of "Baby Love" is that I've discovered the band "Mother's Finest" which I truly had no knowledge of before! In this way, Prince has truly schooled me, introducing me to some great music of the past that I may never had discovered. I wonder if this may be part of his motivation--to introduce great music to his fans, hoping we will hear something we like and investigate further. Whether or not it is his intention, I think it's a worthy reason for doing some covers, especially of older stuff. I realize this logic may not apply to covering stuff that is getting radio play right now. . .

Hope this adds a little to everyone's vicarious experience. What an unforgettable couple of days. . .

I think Me & my friend sat next to Proudtobeafan-as I had to keep tellin the guy with long hair to sit & back off Prince so he can play at least 5X! Plus we couldn't see! We sat in just prior to Prince comin out! & I did see Prince eye him a few times to see what he was doin! As the guy was sooo tall! He should have had the hair in a ponytail! Cause Prince loved us anyhow when he came over in front of us, leaned back with his eys closed-while jammin on the guitar! I was Lovin it-but was trapped behind the table-so could not stand & block others view-so I jammed in my seat! Baby was just too Fine! & his eyes are soo Beautiful! That show with Sat. concert is forever marked in my mind!

Peace!

Apparently, his boot heel got caught in his wide pant leg. It was a tense moment for all of us but he purposely danced much harder and funkier the rest of the show. I made it a point to watch and see if he looked "gimpy." And he didn't just FONKY as all hell. Every show I've seen since last May has him dancing more and more which is great.

Well actually he ran to the left of the stage and my friends and I were directly in front of him when it happened, and we each were slightly holding on to him when he supposedly slipped and ended up in our section. We did ask him if he was ok, at which time, he stood up with his mischievous smile, told us to catch him, and that's when he got right up and stage dived into us and the people in back of us...he turned out to be ok was just having fun.

His performance of Black Sweat is definitely ALWAYS a highlight for me. The first time I saw him play the bass on that was NYE and he was right above my head, legs open, crouched down low, and slappin' the bass like it stole sumthin! lol Yeah, my idea of heaven. That night the song went on for an eternity with him on bass the whole time. This weekend did seem kinda short in comparison.

Also, on Friday he handed the bass directly to CJBabyDaddy, whom I was standing behind, and he's really tall so he held it up above everybody's head while he handed it to Curtis the tech. I just about jumped on his back to touch the strap that was hanging down (errrr. . . hope your back's ok confused .) It was leopard print pony hair/fur.

Really 3 things happened that I would have never expected eek

Purple Rain as the 3rd song in the set!
live recordings/videos/ and being at concerts. I've never seen that before.
Not to mention it was f'n ripping version.

The Fall.
I've heard of it happening before, but have never scene it. Same as scndls did. I was watch to see if he was going take it easy the rest of the show. NOPE the man kept grooving. Not sure if J Benton came out to do the Time steps, but either way shakin and grooving the rest of the night.

Finally
The boy was nasty as I've scene since the whole conversion to JW. Truefunksoldier mentioned his pants were unbuttoned wink I think the first song (definately an early ballad) he was centered stage with a little bit of a shoulder lean and eys closed. He his hand in pocket and rubber in a circular motion.
eek

Overall Saturday night was the better of the two shows. But both shows were great. As always the arrangements and songs were different. It was great to see so close up do his thing. I was out there by myself, but I always had someone to talk to and relate with.

Well worth it. Even with the drunk bimbo drama lol

nod Rev, I agree. I think he's keeping the nasty alive. When he had his hand in his pocket it DEFINITELY looked vulgar, not that I'm complaining. Also, when I saw him last month and he was wearing the lace-up corset with some skin tight black pants I was glad to see the return of sexy dressing Prince. Enough already with the oversized suits. I can't see your biscuit booty in those suits. lol

At the aftershow on Saturday, he had on a much more tailored shiny purple suit with an orange shirt. Very Partyman, which he also performed at the after show.
