And I really don't wanna pay 225 to see a corporate tool. Coming on the heels of the 3121 price "jerk" makes this especially glaring. I don't care about his being a JW, or any of that other shit. I do care when he becomes a complete and total sell out.
I guess this is a major turning point for Prince. He's become part of the "geezer rock" elite (which I thought was so beneath him) who no longer have fans, but only "markets." So much for the music, eh? My guess is that Prince knows exactly what he is doing here. I have to agree with you, paisley beautiful1

I'm curious how many complainers would have bought tickets for the Orpheum run at that price if you didn't need the Citi/AA card? I'm guessing plenty.

I agree the price is a little steep but it is better than the $400 he charged in Florida.

Fools, all of them. [Edited 3/20/07 8:47am] You pay the balance every month. If you travel alot, it's ideal as you accumulate points for seat upgrades and free airline tickets.

I don't know exactly how Prince is being 'hypocritical', he was against being a 'slave' to his record label, ie he wanted to be in charge of his own destiny and direction, he never said he was against charging lots of money for tickets, in fact he was always very keen on 'being number 1 at the bank' so now that he is the master of his own destiny, that's exactly what he can do when he feels like it. This seems to me like a one-off relatively intimate gig and he does have a habit of charging heavily for those these days, the days of cheap entry first-come first-served for intimate aftershows are long gone I'm afraid. Prince has cottoned on finally that there are plenty of people out there with the cash to still sell-out such venues at very high prices, and I'm sure that very fact flatters his ego about being much in demand and at the top of the game.
Still, I would not expect even he would get away with such deals and prices on a proper tour run, when and if it next happens.

I don't think I'm being harsh at all. There's a huge difference between charging 225 - 250 a pop for tickets (that's one thing) and being part of an exclusive "experience" for credit card consumers. It's alienating, to say the least. Forcing people to consume multiple times (and, in this case, it's a credit card, which implies innumerable purchases) just to be able to see a live concert and enjoy music: don't you see what's wrong with this? It's a new level of cynical consumption/power in our culture. This isn't even about capitalism (if it were, I wouldn't have a problem with it), but ultimately about power in relation to consumption. The logic is: if you consume this, we'll "let" you consume that: you know, that thing that you wanted to consume in the first place. That's just gross (and, frankly, scary that this is the future of our country).

i honestly dont see anything wrong with it. where has he been for the last 6 months? oh wait..yea, he was doing shows every (with a couple exceptions) weekend in vegas, which was open to the public. so he does ONE show that is not open to the public and all of a sudden he's a jerk? did you think he was a jerk when you couldn't "buy" tickets to the 3121 cd promotion? it is ONE concert comparied to the many he has done recently in vegas....geesh!

That's probably more just a programming restriction within Ticketmaster's systems. Instead of having a separate, seldom used category for 'private', they just use presale instead.

Just because you don't happen to be able or want to go, doesn't mean he's 'screwing his fans and being a corporate whore'. Geez, can't the guy make some damn money? Especially since 'the golddigger' is trying to wring him for all she can... I'm sure his band members appreciate getting paying gigs also, or do you expect them to work for free too?

why are you acting as if this is Prince's last and only concert. So the man wants to make some money, It's a fucking free country and if you can't go or don't want to go, then what's the big fucking deal? Everybody wants to dictate where this man goes, what this man does and how he shuold think. He's a grown ass man and if he does a show that out of your realm or interest, then just don't go! It's not like he has not been reasonable in his prices before. Just fucking wait. Some of you people are so unrealistic.

The good thing about the Vegas-deal was that you could plan a vacation around it.....and it was a small club (not to mention the aftershows)....I would never spend that kind of cash to see him perform in a 3000+ venue!
