TV REPORT: PRINCE'S REIGN AT RIO OVER IN MARCH

Prince
Prince's run at the Rio may be brief one.

Alicia Jacobs, entertainment reporter at KVBC-TV, Channel 3, reported on Sunday that Prince will end his Rio deal on March 31.

Jacobs said Prince, who took over the Club Rio showroom in November, is going on tour to promote his latest CD.

However, most revealing, perhaps, was the group of uber entertainment executives who attended a private Prince performance that began about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, after his main show at his 3121 club.

Among a group of 30 guests in a small backroom were ABC entertainment honcho David Saltz, Apple Records boss Jonathan Clyde, X, who produced most of Usher's major hits, and Siegfried and Roy's longtime manager Bernie Yuman.

Saltz is reportedly working on huge Beatles-related Prince project.

Prince spent most of the private concert singing arrangements of Beatles songs.

Connect the dots.

A 3121 rep said the show is indefinite and "there's not a confirmed end date as of yet."

Personally, after see the Cirque du Soleil Love show, I was thinking how awesome it would be to hear Prince music used in that same type of thing. The imagery along with the sound would be incredible!

I wonder which "Sunday" performance this refers to. I'm only aware of two Sunday concerts, New Year's Eve (12/31) and last Sunday (2/18). Prince did an aftershow on New Year's Eve, which I attended, but I don't remember any Beatles songs.

But he did not do an aftershow this last Sunday. Matter of fact, those waiting to get into the club after the concert were told by 3121 staffers that Prince hopped on a plane to Minneapolis at 3 am. His band, however, came into the restaurant less than 30 minutes after the concert to hang out, relax, and chat with fans. They told us that they weren't even aware they were going to get the night off as they thought they were about to do another aftershow.

So I'm curious who he was performing with at this aftershow and where if it started at 2:30 am? hmmm

Maybe he means Saturday night's aftershow, which would've started at 2:30am Sunday?

That's interesting to hear he took off for MPLS tho, he needed to get some cold on, eh? wink

He still didn't do any Beatles songs at the aftershow. It was mostly funk classics and lots of jazz but I don't remember ANY Beatles songs. So I'm still like hmmm

I don't know what to tell you unless the writer got things mixed up from the covers he's done during the main show. You know how things go when stories are passed along from person to person.

Norm's re-worded the column since last night, now the 'no confirmed end date' is a little more prominent.
