Great review Genesia, I was at this aftershow as well was in line since 1:00am and was able to get into the main room, I was seated in the back booths against the wall. It was very dark in there, I am a little selfish and want to be able to see Prince, but the music was awesome. A lot of people, VIP's I guess, were let into the main room before the people that were in line and I just thought that was wrong but thats just he way things are done I guess. If you can get into this show do it it's great!!!!!

I was among those who got seated early ("VIP"), but I was lucky b/c I knew some people and I ended up meeting the right people.

I sucks, but this world is very 'who you know', but more importantly...'who knows you.'

You lucky girl, I remember seeing you, I was in the booth next to you, you were in the booth at the corner against the back wall. You are very tall biggrin

Genesia gave a fantastic description of the night. I just typed up my experience, went to post it and lost the entire message. (just my luck. Technology and I don't have much respect for eachother!) Anyhow, will attempt again tomorrow. Hoping tix go on sale for March, but even if they do, don't think a show will compare to Friday's show for quite some time.... I am a damn lucky girl!

Alright people, stop it, please. I cannot read this anymore, being stranded here on the other side of the world.

It was all very incredible.

P.S. 2Elijah was right, "it pays to be nice to people."
The majority of my good fortune and hook ups came from being cool with people. Thanks to all!

Why thank you! it works every time! biggrin Looks like you had a fantastic time. I told you that you would meet other people..good for you! I went opening weekend (11/10 and 11/11) and although there were no aftershows, I still left with a moracca that Prince handed out to 3 fans (me included) and got a high-five from Prince,<--I was like this eek); then before the show while we were on line, Sam Jennings who works for Prince. took pictures of the group I was with and other fans, and they showed our pictures on all 12 screens inside club 3121 on both nights of the opening weekend. We were in awe when we saw that because they showed my group's pictures first, and we had no idea that when he took those pictures, that they were going to show them on the big screens in the club..it was awesome!

Then after the show, we took another picture inside the club from the photographer working for Prince on Friday night, but don't know what will become of it. lol Also, earlier while standing in line, the Rio staff gave some of us free water and 3121 tshirts...it was a blast! ...now what more can one ask for...it is definitely worth the trip!!!! biggrin Anyway, I'm glad you had a great time! biggrin

I kinda like it. Maybe you have never seen Elton live. Liberace he ain't

I just like to think that Prince and Elton John are so far apart, next thing we know Prince is singing 'Arms Of Orion' with Celine Dion..... eek

Don't compare Elton John to Celine Dion... completely different league...

I just woke up after traveling back on the redeye flight and am glad to see that others that attended the show on Friday night had as good a time if not better than I did. The show itself was great. P was in good form. In addition to the songs in the setlist and Crazy in the encore, Prince also played P&the Band and Gotta Broken Heart Again. We got there around 10:45 and were able to get a good spot center stage, maybe 5-7 people from the stage. The show started about 12:20 and went straight through to 1:55.

My wife and I were supposed to meet with some friends at another club that night and I was going to come back and go to the after show on Sat night. Due to technological difficulties (dead/lost cell phones) we could not reach our friends and decided to try to get into the aftershow. By the time we made that decision the line was pretty long. While in line I saw Renato over at the bar and went to shake his hand tell him how much I have enjoyed his addition to Prince’s band.

When I returned to the line, my wife was chatting it up with several freaks like myself. It was fun meeting other fans and sharing our different prince experiences. Based on where we were in the line I knew we would never get in the main room. When we got the entrance my wife and one of the girls we had met were let in and the guy raised his arm to stop me and the other girls husband. Thankfully the ladies reached back and grabbed us saying "they are with us" and the guy was cool enough to let us in. We were the last one in.

At first, I could rarely see Prince, but I was cool with just hearing it. After being packed in and not moving for two hours during the main show I was glad to have room to dance and my wife needed space to relax. As the room cleared out I was able to stand by the door and get a much better view. My wife did not have the Prince high I had and was finally ready to go about 5:00a.m. I reluctantly said Okay and we headed out.

We ended up just hanging with our friends on Sat so I did not make it to that aftershow as I had planned. Was there one? Where are reviews for the Saturday show?

All in all it was a great 3 days with a total of about 10 hours of sleep and I am beat tired. As someone stated in another thread, if you are on the fence on this, get off and go to the show before he closes it down. I have never been closer to Prince at a concert and he put on a great show as usual. I doubt it will work out, but I will be trying to figure out how I can go again.

Liz - so sorry we did not get to meet up and I am really glad that you were able to get into the aftershow. I was a little envious when I read that Sheila came out and they did Get on the Boat. That is one jamming tune and I would have loved to have seen that live.

Ha! I guess I can forgive you.

The "tall" thing is what everyone remembers. lol Funny thing is that I had on heels at the main show and at the after I walked around like it was my crib with my shoes off. So I was a little "shorter" at the after show. (And yet still bigger than most. neutral )

This is a test because I have written 2 reviews of my experience on the 9th and each time I click on Post Response, everything disappears. Let's see if this sticks....

Earlier on this thread, Genesia gave an excellent review of the night. Allow me to add a few of my personal thoughts. The dinner package was well worth it. The food was scrumptious and the ambiance was perfect. My husband and I sat with two fellow orgers we met that night--great, beautiful people! The restaurant is bathed in deep purple and gold tones-elegant yet comfortable. At the club we were seated at our VIP table. I tried to replace our bottle of champagne with liquor and a mixer, but was denied. The lady behind us however, had her wish granted along with several others I noticed. The champagne however, was quite nice. The show was excellent. He cruised through our VIP area during one song and I reached out and rubbed my hand along his arm. He just kept cruisin' by with that coy look of his! Prince may not move around like he used to, but his musical capabilities sure aren't lacking. I personally enjoy the energy the Twinz put out. When Elton John came out, the crowd went crazy. Then when he started into The Long and Winding Road, everyone quieted down in a state of awe. It was pretty amazing. And when Prince closed with Nothing Compares 2 U, I needed a tissue just like Genesia to wipe away my tears! Due to good fortune and good people, my husband and I got into the main room and sat at a booth in the back. Once the lights dimmed down it was difficult to see the band except for general movements. They started the aftershow with a solid instrumental jam of a jazz standard entitled Sugar. After a while, I decided that I needed to see more of Prince than just his silhouette, so I moved forward. Fortunately, Genesia allowed me to slide in front of her. (Thanx again!) At that point, I was in arm's distance of him! Unforgettable! Unfortunately, we left after what we thought was the end of the jam session. So just as Genesia suggested--Do not leave until the lights come on! It's gonna take me a while to let the fact go that I missed Sheila E., but I gotta be happy for MY experience. It was incredible! Thanx to all who were a part! Already have a room booked for March; still hoping for the tix sales to follow....

Gotta say Genesia gave a A1 review! I too was lucky enough to share the whole experience. Getting into the small room for the aftershow was no VIP only thing tho. We went in for the meal and the hostess who sat us (lovely girl who's name sadly i forgot in all the excitement) asked us if we would like to go to the aftershow. $50 got the coveted wristband enabling us to see the whole show at 3121 and then skip the line to get in to the party. Was lucky enough to find my self slap bang centre infront of Shelby with Prince two feet to my left. (To anyone that was there the big guy who couldnt dance!!!)

What an experience and so good to see so many 'fans' rather than blaggers enjoy the show!

Hey,
Is there any way I can listen 2 the jazz set without being locked into the place? Like from a side entrance or something?

If you don't care about whether you can actually SEE Prince, I'm certain you can hear it from the main dining room. And they don't charge for that.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
