I'm seriously considering a trip to Las Vegas to catch 3121.

Tips for Seeing Prince in Vegas:

I attended the show last night and have this advice for anyone planning to see a show at 3121:

1. First off, if you're on the fence, get off! This was an absolutely awesome experience.

2. Call the Rio box office for tickets. The people were very helpful. As it was explained to me, Prince plays on Friday and Saturday nights, and he commits to actual dates 3 - 4 weeks in advance.

3. Most seats are general admission ($125 each). That's what we got. I've read about others who thought the upgrade to a reserved table with dinner was a good value, but we had a blast. In fact, we stood right next to a reserved table, and I was literally bumping hips with the people at the reserved table.

4. Getting in and food. All tickets are will call. I was told the box office opened at 7 p.m. and the doors opened at 10 p.m. We flew in from the East Coast, making that a late night. (note: I'm over 40 : ) So, we planned a full day in advance, went to Hoover Dam, had a big lunch and then....crashed at 6 p.m. and put in 9:30 p.m. wake up call. We got to the club about 10:45, stood in a short line to get our tickets, then went to another restaurant in the Rio for dinner.

Note: most restaurants in the Rio stopped service at 11 p.m. last night (Friday), and we were turned away from two places at 10:55. The All American Bar and Grill serves until 3 a.m., is just across the casino, and the food is great. BIG TIME TIP: while they feature a major league steak menu, get the the Prime Rib and Grilled Onions Quesadilla appetizer for $7.99. It is a meal. And, make sure to order a "large" margaritta. It's $2.50 more ($2.50), but easily 4x the size and has premium stuff in it.

5. Showtime. There's no scheduled start time. One of the workers at 3121 told me that the earliest Prince starts is midnight. I think he started around 12:20 last night. The show was around 2 hours long.

6. Bathroom. It's outside the club, across the casino. You probably want to go before the show starts, cause leaving the club kind of breaks the mood.

7. Drinks. $10. Free-pouring happy bartenders.

8. Where to stand. OK, if you've read this far, then you are probably serious about going. Realizing this isn't a secret after I click "Post," here goes: The club is round. Go to the back left, beyond the big bar, and you'll see a smaller service bar. I suppose they could put more reserved tables there if they had buyers, but we stood on the third tier (same level as the bar) which is about 3 feet higher than the mob scene on the floor. Just below the DJ we found a great place to stand. Yes it is at the back of the room, but it's a small room, guys. Plus, there is a riser back there and a couple of times during the show one of the twinz comes back and dances right in front of you. So there's the tip. If, on the other hand, you like standing in a huge mob scene, get there early and go for it. I'm sure standing front and center is 1000x better, but I don't have it in me to get there hours in advance. My suggestion is a much more casual approach.

9. Where to stay. It doesn't matter. Of course the Rio is convenient. If you're on a tight budget, then this whole 3121 thing is looking expensive, and the hotel rates can get steep in Vegas. Try priceline. Take a cab and plan 30 mins for cab lines. Yes, we waited in a 30 minute cab line outside of the Rio at 3 a.m. But everyone's is in a good mood having fun.

I'm going to try to see if I can set aside enough of my expected tax refund to make this trip happen. From what I've gathered it looks like about $700 for the dinner & club, + airfare & hotel.
...then of course, yesterday morning my car started making a strange sound when I started it up.
I can just see my Rio trip money going into the hands of a mechanic.

nonbizpaul gave you plenty of accurate info. I, however, did the VIP package last week and highly recommend it to all if you can. But the view is pretty great from anywhere unless you're short and at the back of GA on the floor. If you haven't done so, please see my 2 posts on "my 3121 experience", parts 1 & 2, in this forum for even more info. They are lengthy reports but primarily because I tried hard to include the type of info I know that I was looking 4 b4 I left on my trip.

I have been on the fence for weeks about going on my birthday on Feb 9th. We had decided not to go due to the overall cost. I could not see going and not attending both shows with a table etc....Just too much $$$ for a Prince weekend since it would really be all about me and not so much my wife.

Last night I got a call from some friends from Santa Barbara who used to live here in NC. They said if we go they will meet us there. So it's on and I already can't wait!!! We are going to go Gen Ad one night and try to hit the aftershows both nights. They aren't really P fans but I bet they will be if I can get them to an aftershow.

Thanks for your tips. I apprecaite any insight you could offer to the aftershows.

Take PLENTY of $$$$. Can't go 2 Vegas and NOT gamble, shop, and other things.

I didn't go but from reviews I have read Prince doesn't play during much of the aftershow. He sits in the audience and then jumps in for a solo etc. So depending upon whether your friends like jazz it might not be the time to try to get them into Prince.

If you've seen Prince a lot in concert and don't mind not being in the front row...go out for a nice dinner and drinks before his show and then arrive at Rio 3121 around midnight. This way you get there right before he goes on stage. Your feet won't hurt and you can dance all night long. If you want to get out of the club and get to 3121 restaurant for aftershow, you are near the exit and can get out first. Hope this helps. Have a great time. It's a wonderful show!

Thanks for the feedback on the laid back aftershows. I have been to a total of 3 after shows on previous tours and two of the three were on fire. One was more laid back. I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Just bought my tix for the main concernt 2/9.
