Amazing Aftershow Last Night well i was only trying to save some money so i decided to just go to the aftershow
well worth the $50 go if you can stay up that late.....it ended at 5:30 last night by the way the weather for Vegas is going to be in the mid sixties next weekend....our cold snap appears to be over

I didn't know what the price would be but $50 seemed about right. I might even pay $60 or $70. The show was that good.
Got in line around 1:45 a.m. actually and there were like ten people but due to the nature of the event, most of those people were holding spots for others so when we got in the place, that line looked more like 30 people. And I hope nobody gets angry because that is really the only way to guarantee a spot if you want to go to both shows. I'm pretty sure the last folks in line got to sit in the other room though. I got into the band room and Prince had reserved spots for his people already. So there is really no telling what kind of situation you will encounter. There is also no guarantee that there will be an aftershow but as soon as I saw the lady come out to sell us wristbands, I relaxed about that a bit. This is the hottest show in town and quite possibly the world. That was the vibe. And I'm not really into jazz that much but last night's show made me want to run out and get some. Prince also looked like he was in a great mood. And even when the sound was perfect I saw him lean over to Greg at one point and he asked Greg to adjust something on the soundboard. Not sure why the food was no longer available but I bet they are just trying to save some money or something. Cocktails and wine were available though and tasted great. Also some fantastic solos by Renato, Greg, Mike, Cora, the other horn players and of course P. But Maceo was not there. [Edited 1/20/07 10:50am] [Edited 1/20/07 10:51am]

seems like the chances are good.....you could tell Prince was really enjoying being there and not using his voice.....relaxing....and enjoying the amazing band he has put together
at the end of the night while he was walking out he yelled "see you tomorrow!"

at the end of the night while he was walking out he yelled "see you tomorrow!" both aftershows I went to (30th & 31st of December) P wasn't singing either and you could tell he was really enjoying just to be jamming on his guitar with the band! PKidwell, as a local, what are the reports you are getting about P doing these shows at the Rio in both 3121 and the Cuisine? How is Las Vegas' reaction to it? When I was there, I was there as a visitor, I'm really curious how Vegas reports on these shows!

I was in Vegas last weekend and was lucky enough to get into the after jam on the Friday. It was amazing....and P did sing...not whole songs but he was singing bits and pieces and encouraging everyones participation. The whole thing blew me away! I feel blessed! He gets it! That's why the ladies love him...

It's been mentioned in reviews here and at HQ that maybe food wasn't served to cut expenses/save money.
Instead, I wonder if there was no food service to cut down on distractions during the show? Just a guess on my part...unfortunately I was not there. I'm firmly planted in denial

Distractions might be right. Looked pretty hard last night for the wait staff to get around serving drinks. Don't seem to be any reports of these shows locally. By the way, the drink minimum is $20 no matter what you order. Beware of the Green Dragons. You will feel them.
Aftershow last night included Superstition, 3121, How Come U Don't Call Me, The Jam and some others. I had a feeling the energy would be better since he is off for five days. He still saves his voice during these shows so don't expect him to sing much if at all. It was an amazing weekend. Met some really people in line too - from all over the world.

what does it mean by a $20.00 min. for drinks at the aftershow?

It sounds like you'll be charged that even if you order what would normally be a $8.00 drink? [Edited 1/21/07 14:28pm]

First night we were with 5 of us and had a bill of $ 127, including food, excluding tip. The NYE-show we were only 3 and on a roll!!! I believe we had $180 bill..... We were hammering!!!!!

My gf, friend and I were one of the few people who were able 2 get a chance 2 watch last nights aftershow. I was determined 2 get there early 2 get a good spot 4 the show. Getting 2 the line, I found at least four people in front of me. By the time the concert let out, people started filtering in2 the line in front of me and there was at least a good 30 people. U would think leaving early 4 a show and getting 2 the aftershow 2 wait would give U a solid chance 4 a good seat…unfortunately it’s not the case. Some people were leaving the line, disappointed and tired 2 stand and watch as others just jump in line with their friends. I could understand holding down a line 4 a few friends, like two or three, but for a group of 10 or 15….that’s just 2 much. Also, there is no control when it comes 2 buying wristbands 4 the aftershow. Someone in line can just ask 4 as many as they want. LIMIT TWO is the best policy. I think. That’s just me.
As we finally got in2 the club/restaurant, we noticed the open tables and asked if we can sit in them. We were told these tables were reserved 4 guests and could not be given up. If by chance they would not show up, we would be able 2 move. As more and more people started coming in, they were seated at the supposed “reserved” seats. We were somewhat confused. These were people who were standing in line behind us. Hmmm…we asked and were told by the Administrative Asst of Food and Beverages David Espin, “Prince called and asked for people 2 sit in certain spots” Okay…he stated Prince personally called and asked that WE be seated in the booth. As bogus of an explanation that was…it left a very nasty feeling. I had 2 take a shot of Kamikaze and some beers 2 try and make the most of what he just said. I don’t think Prince really knows which fans R going 2 show up 2 this aftershow. Food was not even on the list anymore. I was disappointed. The night b4 was similar. A $20 limit on drinks. Why couldn’t they serve food anymore?? The explanation that was given was due 2 having employees work overtime. They didn’t want 2 keep so many employees after hours. So…food was eliminated. I miss those pancakes…they were SOOOO good. I looked 4ward 2 the aftershows because of the food. And now, we have 2 settle 4 drinks. I really don’t like 2 be tipsy 4 a Prince show, but this night made it easy 2 say WHAT THE HELL, WHY NOT!! U really don’t have 2 drink $20 worth of alcohol or beverages. It’s just a suggestion. I WOULD LOVE THE FOOD MENU 2 COME BACK!! PLEASE!!! The room filled up with many fans and many guests of the musicians. Kim Fields was also in the audience. After finally being seated people were looking 4ward 2 a very great show. Unlike nights previous, Prince had been playing very lengthy after shows. This one started around 4am and ended a little bit after 5am. Not as lengthy. He wore a red suit with a black shirt. The band started up with some great jazz. “Footprints” was one of them. Also in the set list was: The Jam, What is Hip, Te Amo Corazon, How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore (very short)…Shelby also sang on some songs like, Not Gon’ Cry, Kip Blackshire came up and joined the band and 2 sing Superstitious. It was a lot of jamming…something Prince enjoys doing. I love watching him direct his band. It’s great! I always enjoy the aftershows, however it’s really sad 2 see how the manager treated us. His comment on why were seated in the back was stupid. It doesn’t make sense. I can understand if we were CRAZY Prince fans who feel as if they have some connection 2 him and would take it as a sign, but come on…do U REALLY think we’re that stupid 2 BELIEVE that???? The night was ruined by some jerk off with a power trip. Prince can never go wrong when it’s the MUSIC, however the whole ordeal of getting in, being seated, and food and drinks….just made it a bad experience. Holding someone is truly believing, there's Joy In Repitition

Wow Dmsrhotwitu, good for you that at least you and your girlfriend were able to get into the aftershow despite all that.
Maybe Prince and the Rio staff need to make some changes regarding the aftershows, because I think after the Superbowl, they will definitely need some crowd control as more people will be coming to see both, and trying to get into the aftershow may get out of hand and lead to this-> if they can't get in, and then they have to call the power-tripping security dude-> to break some heads and that may upset quite a few people ...(J/K). Anyway, as far as the music room, the Rio's High Roller customers probably get those reserved tables in the music room, but then again due to the size of the music room, and the fact that it only holds about 50(?) is impossible for everyone to get in there. Kudos to those who were/are lucky enough to get in. Maybe they should start charging $100.00 for people that didn't go to the concert at all, I think it's only fair for the people who paid to come to the concert to have a chance to see the aftershow, besides they are losing money if people are just going to the aftershow instead of the concert. I think people are forgetting that it's still a business that has to make money to pay the wait staff, run the operation of the restaurant, pay the band members, etc. ...$50 should be the charge for fans/customers who paid to see the concert and can get into the aftershow for the tables/booths that Prince did not reserve for his people inside the music room - they'll know how many tables/seats are available by the number of bracelets they give out. ...$25.00 for customers who paid for the concert, want to get into aftershow, but can't make it into the music room, and are being seated just outside of the music room, but would be able to hear the band and see perform through the window/door just outside of the music room. ...$100.00 For people that didn't go to the concert at all but want to get into the aftershow, those who attended the show would have priority as far as getting into the aftershow.. ...and if all else fails, then just let the people who paid for VIP service get into the aftershow. ...and don't forget that the some of those tables Prince reserves inside the music room are for his private guests(friends) and other guests who are more than likely, people that can spend that "big money" for drinks like Moet, etc.,The tables he reserves could also be for the Rio's High Roller customers and I'm sure that makes the wait staff happy. they are held in the 3121 resturant it is seprate from where the concert is, but very close to it, the lines fill up very fast and only about 50 are let in and you pay at the resturant and you have to spend 20 in food or drinks per person and also 50 per person to get in. I went friday it was more of a jam session for the rest of the band and prince was kinda just there he joined in very little . friday we had vip for the concert and Sat we made sure we were right at the stage. My husband caught the towel prince threw and it smells amazing!!!!! If you don't mind standing and waiting till 10;00 to get in for the concert that is the best view , it was so well worth the wait. Just don't have to use the bathroom you have to go out side in the casino and make sure you hold onto your tickets you have to have them to get back in. Have Fun!!!!
