A (kinda) funny thing happened in Vegas on NYE. . .

This show was da BOMB! I was in front of the stage on the right and got a chance to meet some cool peeps (mostly from Chichago, hey, ya'll) and see some old fam like diehards Rita and her partner. They are so sweet and Rita is a real trooper since she had an injured leg (broken I think) and didn't take pain meds because she woulda been groggy and didn't want to miss a thing.

But she, and the rest of us were rewarded with a great show. Prince was in "rare form this evening" in a great, playful, funky, sexy-ass mood. Especially when he did Shhh, Joy in Repetition and Satisfied. I can't remember the song he played bass on but he was standing right over my head when he put that big ass bass guitar between his legs and started slapping it like it stole sumthin. (The mental image is almost too much to take. drooling which probably explains why I can't remember the name of the song lol!) Also, does anyone remember the song he was playing when he started popping all his guitar strings??? I was like, "Damn, don't do it like that boy!"

Then at the aftershow we were right behind the people that got the last table in Music Room. I felt like Florida Evans, "DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!!!!" The hostess at 3121, Sandra, was soooo sweet and apologized and placed us at the first table in the other room right by the entrance to the Music Room where we could look through the glass french doors and at least see what was going on.

When the Twinz arrived they and Shelby came by our table and said hi. When Prince arrived he walked by our table and said hi. Then when he started playing he came to the entrance and stood by our table playing his guitar. It was great but got even better. About 30 minutes later the hostess came and got us and told us that a table in the back of the music room was now available so they moved all of our food and drinks to the new table inside.

Then began my favorite part of the night. All the performers were doing the damn thing and it was all TOO funky. But the highlight for me was when Prince stood behind my chair several times at the back of the room. My chair was in front of the rear exit of the room and he would stand back there to watch the band and I think to be out of everyone's view. (I TOTALLY felt like Appollonia in Purple Rain biggrin !)

While the band was playing the audience was clapping to the beat and Prince was standing right next to me clapping by my ear. As good as it was to have his lil’ bit o’ fineness so near, there was only one problem: He was clapping off beat! (Can you believe that ISH??? LOL!) It was totally throwing me off so I turned to him with a smile and said: “Excuse me, but uh, you’re clapping offbeat and it’s throwing me off.” He gave me a crazy ass look (which I expected lol) then leaned over to me and started trying to clap as if he was looking for the beat and was missing his hands. It was too funny and he was a good sport about me being a total smart ass! giggle

The second encounter was when he was walking up the aisle toward the back and caught a glimpse of my giraffe print, pony hair boots and he leaned over and touched them then said in my ear, “I like your boots, those are HOT.” Yet another Appollonia moment! excited Remember when he said to her, “What’s that, there on your boot?” falloff You have to hear me actually do my impression of him talking about my boots! I’ve been cracking myself up for the last few days! giggle

Now, ya'll KNOW I will ALWAYS wear those boots to any Prince show I go to for the rest of my life! biggrin

Well, I'll be there in February so I'm hoping that there will be shows. After the aftershow, I asked one of his assistants if there were shows planned for February and he said yes, but we ALL know how informed his people are about his plans. (NOT!)

As for cost, I'll bet that they keep charging for aftershows because I think they figured out that folks would just go to the aftershow for free and skip the concert entirely. I would! The cool thing is that we paid the $20 for the regular dining room and they didn't charge us the additional $30 when we were moved to the Music Room. Also, I didn't eat anything I just had a Shirley Temple and a $7.50 bottle of water so I didn't meet the $20/person food minimum. All in all a great night!

Great story btw. $7.50 for a bottle of water lol People were pissed when they were two bucks or whatever at the celebration.

Yeah, but I kept it inside. Shoot I hope he was! Flirt on Lil' Prettyman! I think I blew my chances by criticizing him, even in jest. But I keeps it real!

I think he should hire me just to talk shit to him. I'd be like, "You know, regular people actually schedule/plan things in advance. So this deciding if there's a show a week before is just STUPID!" or "If I were you, I'd grow facial hair again." or "Ya know, we need to find a perm that takes care of those edges, baby." That last one is a serious pet peeve of mine. It's like his perms don't take or something. My homegirl calls his hairdo a "working woman's hairdo." She cracks me up. lol

At any rate, I digress, my point is he just needs someone to talk to him crazy on a regular basis, especially when he's coming up with some of these hairbrained marketing schemes. Someone to say, "Uh, no, that shit don't make no sense!!!" hmph!

But who knows? I'd prolly start out being a hard ass critic then fall under his spell too, and be like the servant girls in Coming to America! "Whatever you like" worship or better yet, "The royal penis is now clean!" batting eyes

I loved reading your story!

I think now we are going to start seein' a new trend in women's fashion at his shows: giraffe print pony hair boots! lol

I'm glad you told him he was clappin' off-beat too, because he came back at ya with his "infamous" sense of humor and now maybe fans will stop criticizing Prince so much for being arrogant and what not towards his fans.

At the December 30th aftershow there was one fan screaming all the time 'Call My Name!', it was really annoying..... At one point Prince said: 'I don't know your name! You should know it by now!'

it made me giggle

"I like your boots, those are HOT!" I'm still cracking myself up at the way he said that with his deep, monotone, "you-have-to-purify-yourself-in-the-waters-of-Lake-Minnetonka" voice. LOL!!! falloff Anyway, these are the boots.

Prince clapping off-beat? Funny story and all, but realize that clapping "off-beat" might be intentional.

Well, thanks! biggrin Now I don't believe I was "the" center of attention (not with Prince in the room that's for sure) but I definitely felt special for a few seconds. I shoulda put an arrow on the pic indicating the spot on my ankle that he touched. lol But maybe that's a bit much. Wouldn't want people thinking I'm a crazy, obsessed fan shhh
