I want to encourage anyone who has been thinking about going to see Prince perform at 3121 Las Vegas at The Rio to just GO! It is a MUST SEE experience! I said to myself you can’t afford to go to Vegas but after a very stressful year, loosing two family members I just felt like I needed a release and a little fun. I wasn’t sure how I was going to pay for everything but I found ways to raise money and I’m so glad I went! I LOVE Vegas, and I’m already experiencing withdrawals. confused

Additional concert dates have been announced and are on sale now for January. If you plan on going, try to make your flight reservations at least 21 days in advance to receive a lower rate. This will almost always save you some serious money when booking this many days in advance.

Visit www.vegas.com and search all of the hotels for the best rate. When booking your hotel, book online to save additional money. Make sure the website is secure!

To purchase tickets to any 3121 performance, I can NOT stress this enough purchase them thru The Rio box office and you will save a lot on the service fee. The Rio staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable with me while I purchased my tickets. They will go over all of the regulations with you on the telephone. To contact them call, (702)777-07776 or (702)777-7777. I chatted with employee as she booked my tickets and I thought something she said was a bit strange. She said that my name sounded very familiar and she said it with such certainty. To which I replied, oh? eek I was a little surprised because my last name is not common or popular. I have a face that people find familiar, but not a name.

There is so much to see and do in Vegas, as well as attending the Prince concerts. If your hotel room has a copy of a magazine titled, “What’s On-The Las Vegas Guide” look thru it. It is packed with useful information and can help you save money on attractions. This magazine is published bi-weekly (26 issues) and you can subscribe to it for $45.00 for bulk mail delivery. If interested call, 1-800-4-WHATS-ON.

I attended the Dec 8 & 9 concerts at 3121. The club is NOT large at all and as everyone has said it is in the round. Friday night my friend and I arrived around 10:30 pm and we danced for about two hours as DJ Rashida played a great mix of funky grooves. I felt like I was twenty once again. biggrin I don’t think I could have asked for a better mix of music to dance to, unless a few NPGMC songs could have been thrown in. cool I haven’t had that much fun since the Celebrations at Paisley Park. At one point I was dancing and I spun around and a girl was dancing right in front of me. She was like a ninja because I never saw her coming. eek LOL Anyways she was dancing with me and our bodies got very close which was a little naughty, yet fun so I went for it and danced like I hadn’t danced before. LOL In the back of my mind I was thinking what happens in Vegas… lol She was a good dancer as well and girlfriend had a COOL hairstyle that night. A mohawk with silver stars on both sides. I wondered how long it took to get that doo done. Btw, Prince pulled her up on stage later that night to dance, YOU GO GIRL!!! biggrin

I bought some new clothes since it was nightclub attire and I wanted to look good! (OK, so I have a little bit of a Leo inflated ego at times.) Anyways, I bought a purple velvet jacket which I wore with a crème colored boa, black dress pants and dress boots. Well the jacket was a hit. lol LOL I’ve worn some unusual clothes through the years and none commanded the attention this jacket did. It was simple but funky and men kept coming up to me and saying I love your jacket or that’s a really nice outfit. At one point in the evening I felt someone touching my arm. I turned and a man said that feels so good and I said well if you like that, then feel this and I threw my boa over to him. It’s super soft as well; I thought maybe he missed his pet cat or something. pussy lol Then he offers me a drink of Vodka, and I thanked him but declined. He was friendly and he was also with another woman. Again, does this sound a little unusual? You’re with your woman and you’re offering another woman a drink? I don’t know maybe she is use to his behavior. When I returned home I told a male friend about it and he said I think they were interested in a threesome. 3some Now hold up, that can’t possibly be what they had in mind I said. eek He said I think so, but usually the woman initiates the conversation as to not scare you off. LOL So I’m thinking about it and I’m thinking well it is Vegas but nah that couldn’t have been what he had in mind. I think by the end of the night I had the song Movie Star running thru my head. “It’s good to be seen you know what I mean.” “Just walk in don’t even find a seat, just threw my coat right on the floor. Grab somebody for a quick dance boy, girl it don’t matter I’m hot!” lol ROFL This night was surreal.

Prince started the concert about quarter after midnight. Oh yeah he was tearing up that stage, looked and sounded like Michelangelo’s David (DIVINE-a living masterpiece). The band was tight as usual! The Twins do not distract, but add a sense of sensuality to the music and presentation that is Prince. Loved the guitar over the head into Prince’s hands while playing the guitar as well as one of the twins. Yes, it was sexy! A couple in the audience next to me where like what’s going on. confused LOL I found that amusing. lol I think the concert lasted about two hours. I can not provide a list of songs, my memory isn’t that good. lol

Well, at least you remembered all the pizza toppings, the blackberry sage ice tea ( Tea Republic ) and lots of other details. That´s phenomenal. !!

My friend and I made our way to the 3121 Jazz Cuisine and were greeted by a friendly employee and we chatted for a little while. I was looking around taking in the scene and then I think I looked down and another person walked over. We had our 3121 magazine in our hands from the concert. I noticed that the person was pointing to the front of the magazine by the crease. So I said what are you looking at, and they were pointing to the name Lena Morgan. I said oh that’s Prince’s personal chef and then I looked up and I think I turned beet red I had just told Lena Morgan who she worked for! ROFL Umm, with great shock I said I’m so sorry, you ARE the chef! To which she laughed, we ALL laughed. lol She said she had heard about the article but had not seen it yet. So I said here take the magazine and she no it’s ok, and I said please take it I have two. She took it and thanked me. I think I mumbled something like I was hungry and couldn’t wait to taste the food. Chef Morgan was friendly, and her creations were delicious!

I was thirsty so I ordered a bottle of Voss water(imported from Norway), Blackberry Sage ice tea(Republic of Tea) both were refreshing. Then I ordered the spring rolls with Asian dipping sauce and a gourmet pizza. I didn’t realize that the server brought me the wrong pizza until I looked at it and thought I don’t remember that in the description of toppings. The pizza had Calmata olives (which I love), artichokes and roasted peppers. I had NEVER eaten an artichoke until that night and I have to say I LIKE them! The pizza was very flavorful and I wish I could order them here in Ohio. The spring rolls were very good and the sauce has a little kick, very nice!

I forgot to mention they seated us in the same room that the band performs in. Yep we had great seats so an unforgettable experience that lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes. Prince and the band were chillin’ and the jazz was flowin’ smooth. I was feeling really relaxed and then Prince started tearin’ up that guitar. Those fingers going to work on the strings a few feet away from me was a site I will not forget. He was sitting on arm of the chair a woman was sitting in. Prince played that guitar a few inches from her face. I know that had to be a highlight of the year for her. Lol I think we left around 5:15 am and returned to our hotel around 6:00 am. What a beautiful night to remember!

The second night I did not enjoy. Not due to Prince or the music but I should add that I am 5’ 4" tall and the club was really, really packed. I could not see the stage no matter where I stood. sad I tried three different areas and it was no use. My feet hurt that night and I was aggravated that I couldn’t see. After the performance my friend and I went to the restaurant again and we were lucky once again to be seated in the same room and got a second helping of real music by real musicians. cool You can not get entertainment like this anywhere else except Las Vegas. So don’t walk, don’ run, get on a plane or drink a Red Bull sprout some wings and fly to Vegas baby!!! nod

shocked

This is probably THE most off-topic concert report I´ve ever read on the org, but you succeed in bringing across the whole flavor of....well, your experience.

Roasted pepper, calamata olives and artichokes on a pizza ? Great.

A guy offering you a glass of vodka, probably with a threesome on his mind ? Great.

Blackberry sage ice tea ? Fantastic....

Cool, but what about the concert ?

Don´t you remember ANY songs at all ?

So much info lol
Looks like you had a great time wink lol

I had to smile when you wrote " My memory isn´t that good!"

Did you leave the concert early to get into the restaurant or did you just get there quick enough that there were still tables left in the band room?

OK, well I think I might have gotten the songs mixed up from both nights. But here are some of the songs that I do remember him singing:

3121
Anotherloverholenyohead
Purple Rain
I Like It There
Fury
Maceo...Pass The Peas
Joy In Repetition
Elephants & Flowers
Black Sweat
Kiss
Lolita
Musicology
A Case Of U

What can I say....I like food. lol I also forgot to mention the delicious 3121 Chocolate Tower that we ordered the second night. The presentation was elegant. I know that's really helpful too. wink

I also remember Prince wearing a beautiful purple/lavendar suit during the concert on Friday night. At least that is what color it looked like with the lighting. At the after party he was dressed in a white suit. Saturday night he worn an orange suit and at the after party he worn a red one. I felt like he was into a really sensual vibe Saturday night.

Should I go on about Prince and what I thought about his inner child at the after party....I had a seat diagonal to where he was sitting and he was basically right in my view. He looked so happy and was smiling quite a bit and making conversation with the many women at his table. If you have seen the Creme video, then you have seen how he holds and drinks the coffee so delicately and with elganance. OK, that's called acting, cause brother was eating like you and I and enjoying that food. Stuck a fork right in it and nibbled the end of the it. razz I swear I just thought that was too cute. Now how does that grab you. tease

See, now you´re talking....interesting songlist. So how was Anotherholenyohead ? I heard it sounds more guitar oriented these days. I´m really curious about the current interpretation of that song.
It´s nice when he revisits some of his old songs and gives them a different twist.

Your report is nice, don´t get me wrong, I really enjoyed reading it and your style of writing is very enthusiastic, capturing and describing a lot of the 3121 atmosphere.
And it´s always nice to read more about the food that´s being served...interesting read, considering the speculations about his former endeavours in the restaurant business ( The Egg, the vegetarian restaurant etc.)

Good for you that you enjoy food...it´s obvious, and as a hobby cook I like that.
It´s always interesting to read about the 3121 food "experience" , since it seems to be an important part of the whole 3121 project / experience.
And with Prince still looking incredibly young and energetic, one wonders what the man eats.

lol

Nice report.Next time somebody wants to write a biography on Prince, they should definitely dedicate a whole chapter to Prince and his diets or how he keeps fit.
Food has always been an important, if underrated topic in Prince´s body of work and part of his image and persona over the years.

Yes we did leave the concert a little early, maybe about twenty minutes. If you want to sit in the performance room, you definitely have to be there before the concert lets out. The first night we had a choice of two tables still left in the room, one behind Prince's table or one by the front door to the side of the small stage. We chose the one to the side of the stage which was very cozy and a pretty good location. The other table was just as nice but I didn't think I wanted to sit that close to Prince. lol I have a habit of turning red,or getting embarassed and wanting to dash out of the room if I'm too close. neutral It's a weird shy thing that happens,I can't explain it other than that.

The seond night we left the concert about the same time and the performance room was almost full and we just made got some of the last seats available. I can tell you that so many people have the same idea now that it's litereally a race to get to a seat in that room. The other rooms are lovely as well, but you can't really see the performance from them. You will definitely hear it,but not get an birdseye view.

I'd wanna be as close as possible, but I probably would not be able to stop staring and would be dying to talk to him.
