J-Davey and Goapele review

i knew something was different because it smelled wonderful again and the vibe was as if Prince was in the building.....great show by both artists.....J-Davey was great and more rock oriented so the crowd wasn't as into her as they were with the next act.....Goapele shaved her dreads and has a military haircut but an amazing voice and band.....Prince(wearing an off-white knit hat) was standing next to me on the floor watching both acts....then he joined Goapele for "Crushed Out" (not sure if that is the title) and did an amazing solo.....then later when she did "Tell Me Something Good" by Chaka Khan Prince came on stage and sang one verse, ran off stage, told Larry to come up and do it and he did for about a minute.....all of this was free.....come out on Wednesdays if you can.....this was the best free show i have ever seen.....less than 500 were in the building but not bad for Thanksgiving Eve on a Wednesday

I get the feeling really that bands will play the wednesday slot more for the kudos of playing at a club prince is running than for the extra exposure. although I'm sure if they're not in the middle of the tour its a nice little paycheck and a small amount of exposure amongst the prince fanbase. But a one-off gig in front of 500 people isn't necessarily gonna boost ya career. but being associated with prince would probably raise a few eyebrows.

Thanks pkidwell for the review, I remember you from the May Vegas shows. We should nominate you as the 3121 club spokesman for this fan site, since you keep us abreast of what's going on. Lucky you for living in Vegas at this time. Nice to see J*Davey's music getting exposure out there, my son is a fan of theirs. I can't believe Goapele shaved off her dreads, but nothing wrong with a new look. Although it was only 500 in the crowd, more than likely that was due to everyone preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday or I believe more would have showed. Glad you enjoyed the show, can't wait to hear your next report. Anyway, enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday and many blessings to you and your family!

Peace biggrin

y'all don't have to thank me....it is my pleasure.....3 other highlights I forgot to mention are as follows:

1. The Jazz Cafe added some Thanksgiving Day options to their menu. (turkey and pumkin pie but i forgot the rest)
2. When the guitar player stepped up for a solo only minutes after Prince did his, I was a bit worried but it ended up sounding like an homage to Prince or something. It was amazing!
3. The best part was watching Prince walk around the club like he was having a great time. In the VIP section where he was sitting....right behind the soundboards, J-Davey and her band were there and so were Larry and Tina Graham. DJ Rasheeda was also there. He managed to spend his time with everyone for a few minutes per table.
4. And I'm now in love with J-Davey. http://www.jdaveybaby.com

Good for you, they are known well on the East Coast and you'll be glad to know they are opening for Prince tomorrow night, according to their myspace page, so all the people that's going tomorrow are getting double for their money...cool...so cool, 3121 just gets better, can't wait to go back. I was suppose to go to Vegas this weekend but went the weekend of 11/10 - 11/11 instead. Pkidwell I'm sure you'll be there to tell us how it went, have a great time if you do. I'm happy for JDavey, I love it when an artist takes risks and dares to be different. Anyway, anybody going have a good time. I'll have fun reading the reports.
