Hotel - Rio show - Nov 10/11

Has anyone found a decent rate on a decent hotel in Vegas? Everything is pretty much sold out, or $400 + per night. Advice? I feel like I've looked everywhere.

well sure, you are going to pay those prices for anything on the strip...now if you wanna stay off the strip without a casino, you have lots of options.

Falcon Ridge: $88 per night
Oasis Resort: $40 per night
Gold Strike: $119 per night
Virgin River: $39 per night
Sunterra: $107 per night
Montelago: $134 per night
Best Western: $49 per night
Embassy Suites: $98 per night
Extended Stay: $75 per night
Hilton Garden: $99 per night

You can also try the Station Casino/Hotels. There are several within about 5-10 miles of the strip and easy commute if you have a rental car. Texas Station, Sante Fe, etc. Their Rates range from 40.00 to 90.00 depending on the time of year etc. Also did you check Imperial Palace? Sometimes they are a little cheaper then most place on the strip.

Is the Stardust still open? We stayed there at a "gamblers rate" (thats what the agent called it) for like $39 per night, as long as we agreed to play the machines/gamble there. The rooms were really nice inside too.

also, you can get the "experience" by staying downtown as well. The only difference is that they are older hotels, and don't cater to the upscale type of atmosphere that the strip has become.

when we go, my parents always stay downtown. btw...if you have never been before, you must go downtown at night and see the light show, it is TOTALLY awesome and worth it!

The New Orleans hotel is close to the Rio. The Rio is not on the strip. The Stratosphere and Circus Circus are also nice but cheap. There are plenty of hotels under 400 per night. Don't make the mistake of staying in an expensive hotel, cause trust me, there is so much to do in that city, U will never B in your room. lol You can also check the Southwest Airlines websight. Depending on where you are coming from, you can get airfare plus 2 nights at a hotel for under 200 dollars. They will give you a long list of Vegas hotels to choose from.

Good info thanks.... cool I didn't think the Rio was on the strip... confused

Last time we were there we stayed at the Tropicana, which is no longer anything
upscale like it used to be....holes in the curtains, worn out carpet....but like
you say, who spends much time in the room anyway.. lol

They're not updating I'm sure cuz eventually that place will be gone too...

thumbs up!

I'd never stayed downtown until a couple of weeks ago. We stayed at the Golden Nugget and LOVED it. It's not as crowded and hectic as on the strip and the light show is cool to see. The Nugget's pool is under construction right now, but by looking at the model, will be a beautiful sight when completed. It's going to have an aquarium that the slide goes thru, etc..

Good room prices were listed earlier, but flights can be found for as little as $49 each way if you catch a Southwest or US Airways sale. (I only fly one of those two to Vegas, so I'm not sure about other carriers.)

Thanks for all the suggestions, but there seems to be no availability for anything that's pretty close. I'd welcome any more suggestions if you guys find anything though!

Good point, SWest and US Airways do offer good deals on packages, as does AAA, members can check there also.

I stayed downtown once years ago, and I remember it being a fun place...you can
actually feel the warmth from all the lights...

Wonder if that's a tube, or directly in with the fish? cool Let's hope there are no sharks in that case.... lol

Try booking further ahead. I made reservations for mid-Dec and got great room and flight prices. Rio hotel reservations need to be cancelled with 72 hrs advance notice, so no biggie to book/cancel if needed. Southwest is cool as they don't charge you anything to change your flight. If you don't buy a fully-refundable ticket, you can 'bank' your funds and apply them to another flight.

It is a tube slide and the display model does show a shark peeking out the front window! lol

Too bad I'm in MPLS. Maybe Northwest will go under and allow Southwest to start doing business here.

Do we know for sure that every weekend will be a Prince weekend at the Rio for the rest of the year?

Sorry, guess I should've clarified that it was $49 each way. But I have no idea how much it would be flying all the way from Maryland. Check on the mentioned packages thru the airlines, AAA, Expedia.com, cheaptickets.com, etc..

Hey,

I had the same trouble when looking for a hotel. Everything was either booked, or like $600 a night. Try going to the websites of the hotels, instead of using expedia, or hotels.com. I got in @ circus for $199
