The Time, Atlanta ,GA September 28, 2006 review

Well I'm pissed off. I just got done writing half of this damn review and I erased it. I will try to reconstruct it, but that thing was damn cool

I went and saw the time in Atlanta, GA on September 28, 2006. this was my 31st show, the seventh this year, fourth this month and second one this week.

This was a solo trip. Neither Jason/and or Ashley could make this one. This meant I had to drive and there is absolutely nothing I hate more than driving, especially on a road trip. Well I got on the road early and not five miles from my house I ran into the first swarm of FuckBugs and they didn't let up until halfway to Montgomery(and I just washed the car the day before) Aside from that the drive was pretty uneventful and I got there in around five hours.

The hotel was the nicest one I've actually stayed in. I got checked in and touched base with the fellas. Went wandering around and ran into Tori. I went to the bar and had a few drinks. I saw Morris across the room , but he was outside of shouting distance. I went back to the room, got ready for the show and watched the Braves get their ass kicked by the Mets.

I went down to the lobby shortly before 9 p.m. I saw Tori and Jesse at the bar so I joined them and had a few more drinks. Gradually the other fellas came in and I greeted all of them and engaged in small talk. The bartender was about 35 and wanted to know why everybody was dressed up. How can you be that age and not know who Morris E Day is. Clueless

We got in the van and headed for the show. Well what happened on this trip was some of the funniest shit I have ever seen and/or heard. Too bad I can't give a play by play for this part, but I don't want to lose my hanger-on status. I was told" Rhastus, don't put this on the internet" so I won't. All I will say is there was some serious Spinal Tap like shit going on and I will never be able to listen to Dude(Looks like a Lady) with a straight face again CLINK

Well we got to the gig right at show time so there wasn't much time for the pre concert hanging out that usually goes on. The show was sponsored by Target and I guess I will have to start hanging out there because I was totally infatuated with one of the women running it Well enuff of me being a horn dog, on to the show

Here is the line up
Morris Day- Vocals and Cool
Jerome Benton- Vocals, percussion and general mischief maker
Jellybean Johnson- Drums
Monte Moir- Keyboards
Stanley"Chance" Howard- keyboards
Ricky "Freeze" Smith- Bass
Tori "BleachFly" Ruffin- Guitar

There was the pre-concert prayer and huddle and the show was on. Here is the setlist.
1. The Skillet!!!
2. C O O L
3. Get it up
4. Pandemonium
5. Chocolate
6. Wild & Loose
7. The Stick
8. Blondie!!!
9. My Drawers!!!
10. Fishnet
11. The Oak Tree
12. Jerk Out
13. 777-9311
14. Girl-Short instrumental
15. Sometimes I get lonely-short instrumental
16. Gigolos get lonely too
17. If the kid can't make you come
18. Ice Cream castles
19 The Bird
encore
20 Jungle Love

I watched from off to the side of the stage. It was a decent view, but I probably should have got up front like I always do. The floor was empty for the skillet(man that shit rocks), but filled up during Cool or get it up. Pandemonium and Chocolate kicked ass, but I wish they would drag it out some more. Speaking of which, they did drag Blondie out some and that was probably the best version of it I have heard them play. My Drawers followed and that's always a highlight. When kid started I made a run backstage for some more beer since we all know how much I like that song. After Ice Cream castles Jerome started the "what song do yall wanna hear stuff" Normally you get the Walk, but everybody was yelling the Bird so they went straight into it. They left after that and closed with Jungle Love as usual.

The band didn't hang around too long after the show. They did make a raid of the beverages backstage. I know I left with a coke and water in one hand and a beer and a bottle of absolute in the other. The ride back was Cool. We got back to the hotel and everybody went to their rooms to change and then most of them headed down to the bar

So I'm in the hotel bar eating and drinking with the Time. I remember Morris, Jerome, Jellybean, Tori and Chance(sporting a Led Zeppelin T shirt) all being there. a very kick ass Time. I sat next to Morris and shot the shit until he left. Jason called me and he was bummed that he missed the show so I had Morris and Jerome talk to him on the phone. How C O O L is that. All I can say is it was a blast.Hearing these stories and getting stuff signed is just awesome. Time flew and next thing I know there are only three of us left in the bar. We bailed and another kick ass time had come to an end. I swear this shit is like a drug, the more I go, the more I want to keep going. Bring on the next show I'm more than ready for it

It was listed on Monte's myspace page, plus Nita had it on the Time tour dates thread on Housequake. it was a private show so unless you knew who was putting it on (Target) you probably couldn't get in
