The Time Huntsville, AL September 24, 2006 review

Well this will either be my longest story, or one of the shortest. It all depends if I decide to put all the good stuff in or edit it all out. biggrin

I went and saw the Time at the Big Spring Jam in Huntsville, AL on September 24, 2006. This was the big # 30 show wise and it was a whole Hell of alot better than my 30th birthday that's for sure.

Everything appeared to be going smooth, but as we all well know, things aren't always what they appear to be. I actually got off work early the night before so I would have a decent nights sleep before our long drive. I talked to Jason the morning of the show and it appeared that he was actually going to get here at our scheduled time to go.We were planning to leave around 11 a.m. Jason shows up at 1 p.m. with out Ashley. Not only was he in a foul mood, but our good luck charm wasn't going to be with us(Ashley has gone to 5 shows with us and all five of them we have hung out with the band before and/or after the show)

Well we got on the road shortly after 1 p.m.and Jason's mood gradually improved. It was disappointing that Ashley couldn't make it, but it was also refreshing to have a boys night out. The drive was pretty smooth. We took Jason's Bronco so we really couldn't go over 70 MPH, but that was a good thing since there are probably more cops per square mile on Interstate 65 in Alabama than anywhere else I have ever been. We were making decent time, but out late start put us in a tight spot. I called ahead to see what time the band was going to leave from the hotel for the show and it looked like we were going to miss them by 10 minutes or so. We got there right at 6:30 p.m. I saw Tori, Jerome and Jesse and talked to them for a minute. I got us checked into the hotel and was heading to the room. I saw Monte, Freeze and Chance and greeted them. Well of course this is the one time I didn't wear my concert clothes on the drive so I had to go back to the room and change. Well that made us miss our ride with the band, but we took Jason's truck and got there shortly thereafter.

I got a call from Jerome and we tried to find the back way into the show. Of course we weren't having much success until we saw Jesse and he got security to let us in. We hung out and talked to the fellas behind the stage. Morris finally came out and greeted us warmly. We joined in the pre-concert prayer again and made our way to the stage. We found a spot next to the mixing board. The ticking and bonging was going on, but no DAT intro tonight.

Here is the line up
Morris Day- Vocals and Cool
Jerome Benton- Vocals, percussion and general mischief maker
Jellybean Johnson- Drums
Monte Moir- Keyboards
Stanley"Chance" Howard- keyboards
Ricky "Freeze" Smith- Bass
Tori "BleachFly" Ruffin- Guitar

For once the setlist may be a little off.I'm sure I remember everything, but the order may be a little off. In my rush to get changed and try to make the ride with the band, I forgot my handy note pad. I should have grabbed a setlist after the show. Anyway here it is

1. The Skillet-!!!!!
2. Cool
3. Get it up
4. Pandemonium
5. Chocolate
6. Wild and loose
7. The Stick
8. Blondie!!!!
9. My Drawers!!!!
10. Fishnet
11. The Oak Tree
12. Jerk Out
13. 777-9311
14. Girl-small instrumental bit
15. Sometimes I get lonely- small instrumental bit
16. Gigolos get lonely too
17. The Walk
18. The Bird
encore
19. Jungle Love

They could play this setlist until the Scooter tour starts in 2017 and I'll be happy. The show was right at an hour and until they jam the songs out a little longer or change a few songs, this is as good as it gets. All killer no filler. We got to keep all three rock tunes and didn't have to deal with the dreaded Ice Cream castles/If the kid can't make you come bit. The Skillet just destroys. I would love to hear the full version though. There were a few problems with the sound on the first few songs, but they were pretty much resolved. Jellybean and Freeze were off the chain and I thought the damn stage was going to crack it was vibrating so much from their interplay or as I mess up this quote of some dude behind us(I'm sure Jason will correct me) " That Bass player plays Bass good" Pandemonium and Chocolate were slightly longer. The crowd was great and really into this show from the get go. Blondie and My Drawers are always a highlight and we were headbanging to that shit. 777-9311 seemed a little short, but atleast we got the fake pause and more solo. Morris left the stage and Jerome got the crowd going while the band played instrumental parts of Girl and Sometimes I Get Lonely. Morris was about 10 feet away from us at the soundboard and it would have made as great picture, but I wussed out. Morris returned to the stage for gigolos get lonely too. Jerome snuck up being me and stuck the microphone in my face. I was surprised, but managed to sing a line of it into the mic. Next was the Walk and the Bird. Jerome signaled at us, but I missed my white folks line plus I hadn't been drinking so I hung back tonight. The band exited and mostly hung out in our area while Jerome worked the crowd one more time. He kept saying something about them having a couple more songs. Jason, Tori and myself were like whatever we know there is only one left. Jungle Love ended the show on a high note as always. Great show!!!

We hung out with the fellas for a while until they piled in the van so then we made our way to the truck and headed back to the hotel. we went by the room real quick and then to the bar and lounge to get something to eat. This is where the story could get really long, but I won't go into what we talked about. Let's just put it this way. These are the nicest fellas you ever want to meet. I would hang out with these guys even if they weren't in my favorite band that's how C O O L they are. If you are a fan of the band you would have absolutely loved these stories and inside info. For me this was hog heaven. The only thing that could have made it better would have been having Jill Hennessey waiting for me in the room when I got back razz , but I digress. Morris and JayBe were already there so we went to say hi and ended up staying over there with them until they left. Morris bought us a drink. We ate our meals and hung out. no pictures tonight, but I got a ton of stuff signed. They had the karaoke going again(must be a Holiday Inn thing) we tried to talk Morris into it, but he was having no part of it. I guess Morris is finally warming up to me cause we talked alot for the second show in a row. Freeze, Tori Jerome and Jellybean all made it in at one point or another. The liquor was flowing freely at this point. We were in there for 3 hours hanging out with the MotherFucking Time!!! The fellas thinned out until it was just Jason, Jellybean and me. We said our good nights and headed back to the room. Good thingit was on the first floor too since I could barely see or walk at this point I was so blasted. Getting drunk with the Time Kicks Ass!!! cool

Look for a review of show 31 in the near future
We don't need no microwave
